Design Sprints at Locket Design Sprint Product Design Udacity

  • 0:01 - 0:04
    Hi, I'm here with Kaushik,
who's one of the co-founders of Locket.
  • 0:04 - 0:09
And Kaushik, I'd like to talk to you a
little bit about how you iterate quickly
  • 0:09 - 0:13
and how do you do user testing to make
sure that you have a good product?
  • 0:13 - 0:14
    >> Oh sure.
  • 0:14 - 0:17
So, once we come up with
    the product feature or
  • 0:17 - 0:21
something which we want to build and
try testing it out on our user base.
  • 0:21 - 0:24
    We quickly list out
    all the action items.
  • 0:24 - 0:27
And then, we talk to all the people
who are very close to us, and
  • 0:27 - 0:29
    see what their feedback is.
  • 0:29 - 0:31
    And then,
we iteratively build on top of it.
  • 0:31 - 0:37
We start off from a very, very small
    feature addition to current app,
  • 0:37 - 0:39
or we build a very small MVP.
  • 0:39 - 0:44
And then, we test the technology from
users, get their feedback, try to track
  • 0:44 - 0:47
their metrics and see if it is going
in the positive direction or no.
  • 0:47 - 0:51
If it is going in the positive
direction, then we take it up,
  • 0:51 - 0:54
improve it, or we remove all
the features which are not doing good.
  • 0:54 - 0:55
    >> Mm-hm.
    >> And
  • 0:55 - 0:59
that way we iterate a couple of times
to get to a place where we can release
  • 0:59 - 0:59
    an test it out.
  • 0:59 - 1:03
    >> Yeah, and you talked a little
bit about how you'll contact maybe
  • 1:03 - 1:05
friends or people in your network.
  • 1:05 - 1:09
Are there any other specific users that
you'll make sure to go after to make
  • 1:09 - 1:12
    sure you're hitting
    different demographics, or
  • 1:12 - 1:15
    maybe particular people who
    have certain phones, or?
  • 1:15 - 1:17
    >> Well, it totally depends
    on the kind of application.
  • 1:17 - 1:20
    For example,
if you are releasing an application for
  • 1:20 - 1:23
students then we mainly look at
the kind of phones they are using.
  • 1:23 - 1:27
And the main, like what kind of
    apps they are already using.
  • 1:27 - 1:29
And based on their, interest for
  • 1:29 - 1:34
the UI, as well as based
    on their utilization ways.
  • 1:34 - 1:36
We come up with the features and
  • 1:36 - 1:38
organize it in such a way
that it will appeal to them.
  • 1:38 - 1:41
And we also make sure that
the UI is very animated and
  • 1:41 - 1:44
    very focused to that
    particular demographic.
  • 1:44 - 1:48
For example, if you are targeting
    mid 40s or something,
  • 1:48 - 1:51
we don't really need to make it
    really colorful and very animated.
  • 1:51 - 1:54
But if we are talking to
    someone like 14 or 15,
  • 1:54 - 1:57
then we want to keep it really
    engaging and really interesting.
  • 1:57 - 2:02
So, based on all these features,
we come up with a list of things.
  • 2:02 - 2:07
Which we try to get people into
the workplace and see how they use it or
  • 2:07 - 2:09
    how they respond to that.
  • 2:09 - 2:11
And from there on, build on top of it.
