-
i was reading this uh politico piece
-
today you know i go through stuff and
-
sometimes i just get hung up and i and i
-
start reading something that
-
you know i'm not gonna but oh boy there
-
was a politico story
-
no this is about like uh the ozarks
-
like the partying that's going down in
-
the ozarks oh yeah and the
-
anti-vaccination
-
and anti-coveting anti-mask stuff
-
like there's just all these pieces out
-
there right now
-
um bemoaning how like
-
people are being too condescending to
-
uh people who haven't gotten vaccinated
-
yet now look
-
there is definitely a significant cohort
-
of people
-
who despite the efforts we have seen
-
don't have easy access to the
-
vaccination
-
maybe they're a little bit skeptical
-
which you know
-
i don't like getting stuck with a needle
-
uh they're a little bit skeptical
-
and it hasn't been made quite easy
-
enough for them and yes i get like you
-
should understand like maybe you need to
-
make a little bit of effort in this
-
some people like they can't you know um
-
almost everybody here had to take the
-
day off after they got vaccinated
-
because it started to make you know you
-
you get some side effects that make you
-
feel a little sick for a day
-
um and a lot of people don't have that
-
opportunity so i want to be clear here
-
i'm not putting everybody in one basket
-
okay and i don't know what the numbers
-
are
-
it's hard to sort of like tease these
-
out from the polling
-
but let's just say half the
-
you know half the country is not uh
-
vaccinated
-
and half of those people are just
-
complete
-
jackasses about it the other half there
-
may be other but
-
half of them are just complete jackasses
-
about it
-
here and it goes beyond just not getting
-
vaccinated
-
and it goes beyond just not deciding
-
that they're going to wear masks
-
it is an attitude of like how dare
-
you get vaccinated and wear a mask
-
like that's the thing is like that is
-
underappreciated here
-
this is story in politico one woman
-
they're talking about like this is it uh
-
down in you know in
-
the ozarks one woman brittany hanlon
-
who wears a mask while battling cancer
-
said she was heckled
-
for doing so while walking through a
-
walmart take off your mask two women
-
shouted out as
-
she tried shopping the woman told her
-
that mask was making them uncomfortable
-
handling recalled
-
which i don't understand it's not like i
-
was doing anything mean or inappropriate
-
i just had a plain black mask on
-
this is how defensive this woman with
-
cancer has to feel
-
employee at the haha tonka state park
-
visitor center in the lake of ozarks
-
hanlon says she wears a mask while
-
interacting with roughly six to seven
-
hundred people a week there she's
-
typically greeted with sneers and
-
requests that she remove it
-
where are all the think pieces by the
-
smart people
-
talking about the woman who works at the
-
state park
-
with cancer having to deal with like
-
visitors to the park
-
sneering at her right well i mean i
-
i agree i agree with you i think some of
-
the think pieces are directed
-
at like articles in the daily beast
-
about how this
-
person was an anti-vaxxer and died and
-
like
-
look at what they said on their deathbed
-
i should have been vaccinated
-
i think that's a good piece to put out
-
there i mean i think that like
-
communicates to people who think that
-
this is not a big deal
-
that you should think it's a big deal
-
frankly i don't think the people who
-
don't have access
-
to the vaccine are reading the daily
-
beast
-
i know that's the whole point it's being
-
it's for
-
people to feel superior yeah i mean i
-
think those but those daily beasts
-
and the and the anti like liberals are
-
so smug people are entirely symbiotic in
-
all this stuff in my opinion
-
yeah i i think like look it is fine
-
for people to feel superior who cares
-
like who cares the bottom line is like
-
what has the opportunity
-
frankly because i saw that stream story
-
i saw that same story by the
-
the doctor who posted on facebook
-
in the alabama not in the daily beast in
-
the alabama
-
you know uh um uh uh
-
online version of the thing and people
-
should read
-
that this person before they died the
-
last thing they said was like i wish i
-
could get the vaccine
-
because maybe maybe it'll encourage
-
i don't know one or two other people to
-
get the vaccine the idea that like this
-
is
-
somehow like people are being you know
-
like the
-
the the story to come out of this is
-
that people are being
-
too self-satisfied with themselves that
-
may be the case
-
but the other people are
-
either a being like um like willfully
-
ignorant
-
and are being just as dickish
-
it's just that they don't write in the
-
daily beast about it if that's the story
-
right but if that's the story to come
-
out of this you're absolutely right
-
i just think it's fine as an ancillary
-
point to say that a lot of this is
-
self-serving
-
and it's also what i don't like about it
-
is it makes it part of a partisan
-
infighting or
-
or false binary when there are
-
significant issues with other cohorts
-
cohorts who aren't mega die hards
-
like black americans who are
-
unvaccinated at the high rate as well
-
where there's an entirely different
-
there's an entirely different
-
conversation to be had where that's a
-
lot about skepticism of our institutions
-
etc
-
but here's the thing what we should be
-
doing as a government is probably
-
mandating it but everybody's terrified
-
of doing that
-
because of the cohort that
-
that is that that you're saying is is is
-
being addressed too much
-
it's i mean let's let's be clear like we
-
can't do this
-
we can't mandate this vaccine because
-
a there's a fear of like wait what
-
happens if donald trump becomes
-
president again let's just say a donald
-
trump becomes threat and decides to
-
start mandating all sorts of different
-
things
-
uh that are you know that are dubious
-
like what you know like
-
like the creation the wii the problem
-
here
-
the reason why it's that much harder to
-
reach those people who don't have access
-
to the vaccine
-
is because it has been so dramatically
-
politicized
-
on the right that it
-
creates a political cost if you lean too
-
forward into it i mean
-
look at what happened to the person
-
who's in charge of convincing kids
-
to get their diphtheria vaccine in
-
tennessee
-
like you know like like this is the
-
dynamic that we're working here
-
and the idea that like matt's absolutely
-
right the daily beast thing
-
and the sub stack writer is talking
-
about how gross it is that liberals
-
think that they're better than everybody
-
and you
-
as that's just that's just a mat that's
-
completely a circle jerk
-
the real issue in terms of getting
-
people vaccinated in this country
-
the reason why we don't see the proper
-
mandates for vaccinations
-
the reason why we don't see the
-
aggressiveness is because
-
you can see it right in tennessee they
-
fired the woman
-
and wouldn't allow they suspended
-
reaching out to people
-
to get vaccinated for things like
-
uh you know tb or whatever it is
-
yeah and those people like i i'm very
-
much against you know blaming the
-
propagandas
-
and you look at the type of information
-
those people have been getting and it's
-
we're
-
we also hear about all this jimmy dore
-
was on rogan yesterday talking about
-
ivermectin
-
and hydroxy hydroxychloroquine hydroxy
-
being suppressed
-
and it's like you go back to actual um
-
uh congressional hearings and actually
-
it's
-
the hydroxy freaks outnumber the normal
-
people by three to one right like th
-
this narrative of the suppression is
-
what's really
-
it's just trying to feed that right like
-
let's emphasize
-
like this sort of liberal uh hegemony
-
narrative even though
-
we have a breakthrough like a
-
virus that's going out of control
-
because we can't get people on the same
-
page because they've been fed
-
bs about a hydroxychloroquine for the
-
past year
-
i agree with what both of you are saying
-
i just think there is a
-
one-size-fits-all
-
issue with some of the rhetoric
-
surrounding
-
vaccine hesitancy at this point
-
like i don't know that like i i i agree
-
emma with what you're saying about like
-
the grossness of it but i also don't
-
know that
-
we're seeing um the numbers go down a
-
little bit and vaccinations go up
-
and i don't know if it's not happening
-
in effect right
-
exactly i mean that one size fit all it
-
shamed
-
you know uh steve scalise into either
-
either admitting that he you know like
-
pretending like he hadn't been
-
vaccinated or getting vaccinated on
-
sunday
-
there's a reason why the right did that
-
well it's the delta variant i don't know
-
if it's
-
you can draw a connection to shaming but
-
but the delta variant
-
i mean how are they getting communicated
-
about what the implications of the delta
-
variant is
-
it's because you're starting to see
-
stories of like i wish i got vaccinated
-
in these places where the delta variant
-
is actually killing people no it's
-
because
-
people thought that once the vaccines
-
were rolled out and they gave it to
-
people who were more vulnerable that
-
they could just ride this out and they
-
were hesitant about getting the vaccine
-
people who are most vulnerable could get
-
it and they'll go away and now they're
-
realizing that it's not going away but
-
but emma you don't think you think steve
-
scalise didn't have access to the
-
to the information that would have led
-
him i think he made this decision as
-
you've said
-
based on a political calculation exactly
-
and when steve scalise
-
and all of the the right over the past
-
two weeks
-
changed their political calculation what
-
did you see
-
you saw vaccinations go up and it may be
-
a coincidence
-
that you had people coming out there
-
saying like it's not so bad to get
-
vaccinated
-
or maybe they're talking to some of
-
their people and some of them are
-
listening
-
all right i think there's also too much
-
focus on like
-
oh this like this thing happened and
-
it's gonna make the right do like the
-
masks
-
stuff with the cdc like sagar is he
-
loves to emphasize these sorts of
-
stories because it goes into a larger
-
narrative they like to pedal not because
-
they actually care about the
-
individual policy yeah well i mean
-
cultural critique and
-
and the circle jerk nature of some
-
writers on the left it's
-
it's a it's more self-serving than it is
-
actually trying to
-
change the country in any way yeah it's
-
just one more
-
front in which is like a sort of uh i
-
don't know i'm better than the
-
truth i'm better than this liberal or
-
these liberals and you know we're going
-
to critique liberal culture
-
exactly right folks there's more of what
-
you've just saw where that came from
-
that's if you hit the subscribe and like
-
button thank you
-
really thank you
