New Jersey's top forensic dentist Dr. Philip Geron has worked with the FBI, and local and state law enforcement to help solve some of the Garden States toughest cases.
Dr. Geron was once a private detective before he went to dental school. He liked the idea of cause and effect and finding the source of the crime. He was the first oral surgeon to use bite marks to solve a rape case in New Jersey. Another interesting case involved a slice of pizza with bite marks that he used to find the suspect.
"It had a bite mark and the police came to me and said 'what should we do with this?' So I said well, 'put it in the refrigerator like you would a piece of pizza and don't eat it'," he shared.
Dr. Geron also helps to solve mass tragedies like 9/11 where he was on-site identifying bodies of the victims. He worked with a team of forensic dentists who identified over 500 individuals after 9/11.
