Adding Views - Intro to Point & Click App Development

  • 0:00 - 0:02
    >> Aright. I'm really, I'm really in to this
  • 0:02 - 0:06
dashboard thing. We've got our, our nice pretty visualized data.
  • 0:06 - 0:07
    >> Awesome.
  • 0:07 - 0:12
    >> I suspect that there is a way in Sales Force to,
  • 0:12 - 0:17
kind of, get this functionality, you know, filtering data, things like
  • 0:17 - 0:21
that, but in the app itself. And, like. I could imagine
  • 0:21 - 0:26
maybe, there's someone at the festival whose, whose job is to organize
  • 0:26 - 0:30
the electronic music bands, or the Bossanova bands for you, and that,
  • 0:30 - 0:33
that person might want to just look at bands of a specific genre.
  • 0:33 - 0:34
    >> Yep.
  • 0:34 - 0:37
    >> Is there a way to filter data like that.
  • 0:37 - 0:41
    >> Yeah. So, that's actually a pretty easy functionality to create.
  • 0:41 - 0:41
    >> Okay.
  • 0:41 - 0:44
    >> Lets take a look here. So what we're
  • 0:44 - 0:46
looking at right now is a List View of
  • 0:46 - 0:47
just the recent bands. That's what comes up by
  • 0:47 - 0:51
default. And if you click that Go button, it's going to
  • 0:51 - 0:53
take us to the All list view. So
  • 0:53 - 0:56
that's showing us all the bands completely. But like
  • 0:56 - 0:57
you saw from that little pick list, the only
  • 0:57 - 1:00
option we have is All. So, in order to
  • 1:00 - 1:03
create a view to sort by genre, we have
  • 1:03 - 1:05
to create a new view. So click that Create
  • 1:05 - 1:08
New View Link. And so this is going to create
  • 1:08 - 1:11
a list view of any filter that we define.
  • 1:11 - 1:14
    >> Actually going to do it Bossanova bands.
  • 1:14 - 1:14
    >>
  • 1:14 - 1:15
    [LAUGH]
  • 1:15 - 1:16
    That's a small list.
  • 1:16 - 1:20
    >> It is a small list. Select a banner. All bands.
  • 1:20 - 1:25
    >> You want All Bands and then we want to choose a genre field. And
  • 1:25 - 1:28
then equals whatever, and so you could make
  • 1:28 - 1:31
these pretty complicated with filters on like dates
  • 1:31 - 1:36
and this date but also this name and this genre and get really specific. Like
  • 1:36 - 1:37
if we have multiple festivals, it could even
  • 1:37 - 1:39
be genres but only at a certain festival.
  • 1:39 - 1:39
    >>
  • 1:39 - 1:43
Mhm. Okay. And so I'm going to, let's see I'm going to
  • 1:43 - 1:46
show the band name and I'm going to show the manager
  • 1:46 - 1:49
phone number and maybe I want to know their Twitter handle
  • 1:49 - 1:51
so I can Tweet them in all my PR stuff.
  • 1:51 - 1:52
    >> Yeah.
  • 1:52 - 1:55
    >> And I'll make it visible to all users.
  • 1:55 - 1:56
    >> Sounds good.
  • 1:56 - 2:01
    >> Hit Save. Anyway, with this set, there are only three Bossanova bands, so,
  • 2:01 - 2:04
this manager does not have a lot of work to do, but that's okay.
  • 2:04 - 2:04
    >>
  • 2:04 - 2:05
    [LAUGH]
  • 2:05 - 2:07
So I really like where we're going with
  • 2:07 - 2:09
this. You know, we can really visualize our data
  • 2:09 - 2:13
and get a feel of what it would be like to use the app on the day of.
  • 2:13 - 2:16
    >> Yeah. So I want to think more about
  • 2:16 - 2:19
that because, I mean, having this visualization is nice.
  • 2:19 - 2:19
    >> Mm-hm.
  • 2:19 - 2:22
    >> But it's actually, it's not that clear to me what
  • 2:22 - 2:26
I would actually be doing on the actual day of the festival.
  • 2:26 - 2:30
    >> Right. And you know, we haven't completely added functionality
  • 2:30 - 2:33
into it yet, even. Right now it's just static data and
  • 2:33 - 2:37
it's showing us information, but it's a little bit of calculation
  • 2:37 - 2:39
based off the formulas that we've made, but we haven't added
  • 2:39 - 2:43
too much human interaction pieces to it, you know, that actually.
  • 2:43 - 2:43
    >> Yeah.
  • 2:43 - 2:45
    >> Streamline processes.
  • 2:45 - 2:46
    >> Okay, so, can we do that?
  • 2:46 - 2:47
    >> Yeah, let's do that.
  • 2:47 - 2:47
    >> Cool.
