Prophet, not icon: Martin Luther King in an age of empire | Omid Safi | TEDxUNC

Title:
Prophet, not icon: Martin Luther King in an age of empire | Omid Safi | TEDxUNC
Description:

Omid Safi, professor of Islamic Studies at UNC, talks about why Martin Luther King Jr's famous speech, "I Have a Dream," is not the only one we should be studying. At Riverside, MLK stood in a church to condemn all wars, understanding that injustice here is connected to injustice there. Safi explains that no prophet comes to say, "Keep doing what you're doing," and that Martin Luther King should be disturbing and unsettling to all of us because he is revolutionary.
