Hey Michigan! It’s time to vote!
  • 0:06 - 0:07
First, you need to register though.
  • 0:07 - 0:09
And if you’re not sure whether
    you’re registered already,
  • 0:09 - 0:12
there’s a link in the description,
where you can go check right now.
  • 0:12 - 0:14
    If you aren’t registered,
    or if you’ve moved,
  • 0:14 - 0:16
    or changed your name
    since the last election,
  • 0:16 - 0:19
and need to update your registration,
there’s a few ways you can do it.
  • 0:19 - 0:22
If you have a Michigan driver's license,
you can go to the link in the description
  • 0:22 - 0:23
    and register online right now.
  • 0:23 - 0:24
If you don’t have a license,
  • 0:24 - 0:26
say you’re a student from another state,
    or you don’t drive,
  • 0:26 - 0:28
    you can still register.
  • 0:28 - 0:30
You’ll just need to print out
    the form in the description,
  • 0:30 - 0:32
fill it out, and mail it to
    your city clerk’s office.
  • 0:32 - 0:34
A link to all their addresses
is down in the description, too.
  • 0:34 - 0:38
Either way you register, the deadline
to send in your form is October 19th.
  • 0:38 - 0:39
    If you miss that deadline,
  • 0:39 - 0:41
    you can still register
all the way through election day
  • 0:41 - 0:43
by filling out the form, and bringing
it in to your city clerk’s office
  • 0:43 - 0:44
to turn it in by hand.
  • 0:44 - 0:47
    Once you’re registered,
there’s a few different ways you can vote.
  • 0:47 - 0:48
If you want to vote from the
    comfort of your own home,
  • 0:48 - 0:50
you can request to vote absentee by mail.
  • 0:50 - 0:52
    You can use the online,
    or the mail-in application.
  • 0:52 - 0:54
    There are links to both
    in the description.
  • 0:54 - 0:56
    You have until October 30th
    to request your absentee ballot.
  • 0:56 - 0:59
But the sooner you do it, the more time
you have to get your ballot in the mail,
  • 0:59 - 1:02
fill it out at your own pace,
and send it back before November 3rd.
  • 1:02 - 1:05
You can also vote early in person
    at your county elections office
  • 1:05 - 1:08
from September 17th to November 2nd
    during their normal business hours.
  • 1:08 - 1:11
Some offices stay open for extra
    weekend and evening hours,
  • 1:11 - 1:14
so check out the link below to find out
when and where you can vote early in your county.
  • 1:14 - 1:16
If you want to vote on election day on November 3rd though,
  • 1:16 - 1:19
you’ll use the same website you used to check your registration
  • 1:19 - 1:20
to find out where to go to vote.
  • 1:20 - 1:23
Polls are open from 7am to 8pm,
and you’ll need to show a photo ID.
  • 1:23 - 1:26
a driver’s license, state ID, student ID,
  • 1:26 - 1:28
    passport, military, or tribal ID
    are all acceptable.
  • 1:28 - 1:31
You can also go to the link in the
description to look at a sample ballot,
  • 1:31 - 1:34
that tells you everything you’ll be able
to vote for in this year’s elections.
  • 1:34 - 1:35
You don’t have to vote for
    everything on the ballot.
  • 1:35 - 1:37
You can leave things blank if you want to.
  • 1:37 - 1:39
    But your local elections
    can be pretty important.
  • 1:39 - 1:41
    So, it’s worth checking out
what’s on there ahead of time.
  • 1:41 - 1:43
You can even take a screenshot,
    or print it out,
  • 1:43 - 1:46
and bring it to the polls with you
so you can remember how you want to vote.
  • 1:46 - 1:48
Before you go, the best thing to do
if you’re going to vote this year
  • 1:48 - 1:50
is to make a plan to vote right now,
  • 1:50 - 1:52
from what day you’re gonna register
  • 1:52 - 1:54
    to whether you are gonna
    vote in person or absentee.
  • 1:54 - 1:56
What kind of ID you’re gonna use?
    And where it is?
  • 1:56 - 1:59
Even, what time you’re going to vote?
And how you’re gonna get there?
  • 1:59 - 2:01
Write it down, put it in your notes app,
    text it to a friend.
  • 2:01 - 2:02
    Just make a plan,
  • 2:02 - 2:06
so that nothing unexpected stops you
from being counted on November 3rd.
  • 2:06 - 2:07
All the links you need to
    check your registration,
  • 2:07 - 2:09
    and polling location
    are in the description.
  • 2:09 - 2:10
    Thanks for being a voter!
