-
This bring us to Task 1h, join Census
boundary layers with state Zika cases
-
and county fertility tables.
-
Open the Attribute table for the state.
-
Also open the Attribute table for
CASES_ZIKA_2016_CDC.
-
Drag the cases over here to where the map
is so you can see the two tables at
-
one time.
-
Both of these tables have number of
fields, but notice the similar fields name
-
and name.
-
These have a 1 to 1 relationship.
-
For every one record here, in this table
for Alabama, there is one record here
-
in this table.
-
This is great, this is going to allow us
to join the two tables together, and work
-
with them as one table.
-
So we are going to initiate the join from
the Contents pane.
-
We're going to right click the states
layer, Joins & Relate, Add/Join.
-
Here in the Add/Join Geoprocessing pane
we are going to choose the states as the
-
layer name or table view.
-
The Input Join field is Name.
-
The table we want to join is
CASES_ZIKA_2016_CDC.
-
And the Output Join field is Name.
-
This tool is very smart, it has already
discovered that we have two tables open.
-
And it has already discovered what those
fields are that should be used for the
-
join.
-
There is a warning here letting us know
that the field is not indexed.
-
That's quite all right, we can still run
this tool, it just may be a little slower.
-
If you had a table with many many records
you would definitely want to index that
-
field first to save yourself some time
and improve performance.
-
Go ahead and click Run to initiate the
join.
-
Once the tool has completed you can
close it.
-
And now within your state Census table,
if you scroll to the right you should see
-
disease, donor, and total cases.
-
So every record in this table, now has a
value of total cases.
-
Now, it's your turn, repeat the Join
Geoprocessing tool to join the
-
COUNTY_2016_CENSUS layer and the
COUNTY_FERTILITY_2016_CENSUS table.
-
You may need to open both tables to
identify a field that will serve as a
-
common unique ID, before running the
ADD/JOIN tool.
-
Be sure to verify the joined work, and
save your project before proceeding.
-
Here in the COUNTIES_2016_CENSUS table
I can scroll to the right and discover
-
that the Women_15_50 is now a part of this
table.
-
I'm also noticing there are a lot of other
fields in here that we aren't going to be
-
using.
-
And so I'm going to go ahead and modify
the fields that are visible.
-
I'm going to click the More, and Fields
View.
-
Uncheck everything visible, and then turn
back on information that I might find
-
helpful. So this is COUNTIES_2016_CENSUS,
I'm going to go ahead and turn on some
-
county information.
-
And then I'm going to be sure to scroll
down a little bit and turn the Geo_ID
-
and the Women_15_50.
-
And then save the changes.
-
Close that view, and now my table is much
more manageable.
-
And then I'm going to close the table and
save the project.
