Numa tarde de verão em 335 a.C., Alexandre, o Grande, estava a descansar junto ao Rio Danúbio, quando um bando de estranhos se aproximou do acampamento. Alexandre nunca tinha visto nada como aqueles guerreiros altos, de aspeto feroz, com enormes colares de ouro e capa coloridas. Eram Keltoi ou Celtas — um grupo de tribos independentes espalhadas por toda a Europa. Philip Freeman analisa a ascensão e a queda dos antigos celtas.
