I filmed this exact same video in 2014,
  • 0:03 - 0:05
but a lot has happened since then.
  • 0:08 - 0:10
So I went out and filmed a new, updated
  • 0:10 - 0:13
2019 version, asking Australians what they
  • 0:13 - 0:15
    think of America.
  • 0:16 - 0:17
    Are you Australian?
  • 0:17 - 0:18
    Yes I am.
  • 0:18 - 0:19
What do you think of the United States
  • 0:19 - 0:21
    of America?
  • 0:21 - 0:26
    I don't know, they're a bit of a joke.
  • 0:26 - 0:28
    It's alright.
  • 0:28 - 0:31
It's a solid five out of ten.
  • 0:31 - 0:32
    I don't mind it. I've been a couple of
  • 0:32 - 0:34
times. It's nice, I don't know about to
  • 0:34 - 0:37
live in, but to visit it's a nice place.
  • 0:37 - 0:38
    Bigger is better.
  • 0:38 - 0:40
    I love America, it's cool.
  • 0:40 - 0:41
    America is great.
  • 0:41 - 0:43
Yeah? Why do you say that?
  • 0:43 - 0:45
Well, actually can I be honest.
  • 0:45 - 0:47
They're very lucky. The place is basically
  • 0:47 - 0:49
as big as Australia except instead of
  • 0:49 - 0:51
desert, they just got lush, green
  • 0:51 - 0:52
wilderness from one side of the country to
  • 0:52 - 0:53
    the other.
  • 0:53 - 0:56
Pretty crazy politics. A lot happening
  • 0:56 - 0:58
there. Way too much to unpack.
  • 0:58 - 0:59
    Just pretty hectic.
  • 0:59 - 1:01
It's a bit messy. Their whole political
  • 1:01 - 1:04
state is a bit out of control at
  • 1:04 - 1:05
    the moment.
  • 1:05 - 1:07
But it seems like an interesting place to
  • 1:07 - 1:09
be. I don't know if I'd live there, but
  • 1:09 - 1:10
it'd be a good place to holiday,
  • 1:10 - 1:11
    in my opinion.
  • 1:11 - 1:12
    Yeah, I agree.
  • 1:12 - 1:15
At the moment, I think it's in decline.
  • 1:15 - 1:18
I think their society is declining, social
  • 1:18 - 1:20
    fabric is breaking down.
  • 1:20 - 1:22
I was actually planning, I don't know if
  • 1:22 - 1:24
other people have this but I really want
  • 1:24 - 1:26
to travel to America but with all the
  • 1:26 - 1:29
gun laws and violence and all that stuff
  • 1:29 - 1:31
that's happening. You know, the shootings
  • 1:31 - 1:33
on the news all the time. That kind of
  • 1:33 - 1:34
puts me off sometimes for travelling
  • 1:34 - 1:36
there. I don't know if anyone else gets
  • 1:36 - 1:38
that, but that's just what I think in
  • 1:38 - 1:39
general. But I think other than that, it's
  • 1:39 - 1:41
    a really great place.
  • 1:41 - 1:44
I think if America want to improve itself,
  • 1:44 - 1:46
they should vote for Bernie Sanders.
  • 1:46 - 1:48
    I think, yes.
  • 1:48 - 1:49
    Getting political?
  • 1:49 - 1:51
I am getting political. America would
  • 1:51 - 1:53
solve a lot of its problems that we fixed
  • 1:53 - 1:55
here in Australia by voting for Bernie
  • 1:55 - 1:56
    Sanders.
  • 1:56 - 1:58
Well I think it's a fantastic country and
  • 1:58 - 1:59
I've got some very good friends in
  • 1:59 - 2:02
America, really good friends who I'm in
  • 2:02 - 2:04
    constant contact with.
  • 2:04 - 2:05
Great! What do you think is the best thing
  • 2:05 - 2:07
    about the country?
  • 2:07 - 2:10
I think that compared to Europe, they're
  • 2:10 - 2:12
part of the New World just like we are
  • 2:12 - 2:13
    here in Australia.
  • 2:13 - 2:15
The best thing about the country is the
  • 2:15 - 2:18
nature. It's a beautiful wilderness there.
  • 2:18 - 2:21
Just the national parks. Grand canyon.
  • 2:21 - 2:25
That is such- I want to go there.
  • 2:25 - 2:27
The best thing? Oh geez, they make some
  • 2:27 - 2:32
pretty cracking films. The film industry.
  • 2:32 - 2:33
A lot of cool stuff has come out of it.
  • 2:33 - 2:35
    Like companies, inventions, businesses,
  • 2:35 - 2:38
    stuff like that. Maccas.
  • 2:38 - 2:40
Probably the amount of different variety
  • 2:40 - 2:42
of food places and stuff. I've been there
  • 2:42 - 2:43
a few times so it's pretty good there.
  • 2:43 - 2:45
It seems like it has a lot of things to do
  • 2:45 - 2:47
there, like there's a lot of entertainment
  • 2:47 - 2:48
there. It doesn't seem like a place you
  • 2:48 - 2:50
    can get bored easily.
  • 2:50 - 2:51
What do you think is the worst thing about
  • 2:51 - 2:52
    America?
  • 2:52 - 2:53
The worst thing is Donald Trump and all of
  • 2:53 - 2:55
    his supporters.
  • 2:55 - 2:58
    Guns. Just guns.
  • 2:58 - 3:00
America, their gun laws are so bad.
  • 3:00 - 3:02
I feel like Donald Trump is making it
  • 3:02 - 3:03
    worse for you guys.
  • 3:03 - 3:07
Probably the gun control and just the way
  • 3:07 - 3:10
    they run things, especially-
  • 3:10 - 3:13
Yeah, the politics kind of, at least from
  • 3:13 - 3:15
what I can see, I don't really follow too
  • 3:15 - 3:17
much but it looks to be in shambles.
  • 3:17 - 3:21
I heard the health care is really bad.
  • 3:21 - 3:24
There is a lot of inequality over there.
  • 3:24 - 3:26
Just between the poorest of the poor and
  • 3:26 - 3:28
    the richest of the rich.
  • 3:28 - 3:30
    They're very materialistic. Very
  • 3:30 - 3:32
    individualistic. Like everyone for
  • 3:32 - 3:35
themselves, like you go there and people
  • 3:35 - 3:37
just like dying on the streets and living
  • 3:37 - 3:40
under bridges and no one like-
  • 3:40 - 3:41
it seems like there's no community to help
  • 3:41 - 3:42
    each other.
  • 3:42 - 3:44
There's a long list of problems with
  • 3:44 - 3:48
America but I think maybe the news outlets
  • 3:48 - 3:49
is a very big problem there, the news
  • 3:49 - 3:54
cycle. Spread of information, bias. A lot
  • 3:54 - 3:56
of the time even open bias.
  • 3:56 - 3:58
Well I think the worst thing about the US
  • 3:58 - 3:59
is how it's trying to change the rest of
  • 3:59 - 4:01
the world and influencing other countries
  • 4:01 - 4:02
    overseas.
  • 4:02 - 4:05
You could say that they're bullies.
  • 4:05 - 4:08
They're bullies, they dominate a fair bit.
  • 4:08 - 4:10
But as far as people are concerned,
  • 4:10 - 4:12
I think that they're very democratic.
  • 4:12 - 4:14
Have you ever met an American and what
  • 4:14 - 4:15
    impression did they give you?
  • 4:15 - 4:16
Yeah, so I've travelled to the United
  • 4:16 - 4:20
States like five times and I've got a few-
  • 4:20 - 4:22
    I don't, I find I either love them or
  • 4:22 - 4:23
hate them. I have some really good friends
  • 4:23 - 4:25
that are Americans and are like- yeah.
  • 4:25 - 4:29
So I find there's no in between.
  • 4:29 - 4:30
The American people I've met have all been
  • 4:30 - 4:32
    lovely. But whenever I've travelled
  • 4:32 - 4:34
anywhere you can always tell there's a
  • 4:34 - 4:37
group of American people just by how loud
  • 4:37 - 4:39
and the accent, and you're like okay quiet
  • 4:39 - 4:40
down a little bit, you know.
  • 4:40 - 4:41
I don't know, they're sort of like us
  • 4:41 - 4:42
    Australians. There's nothing really
  • 4:42 - 4:44
different about them apart from the accent
  • 4:44 - 4:47
Yeah, I do like them. The only thing is
  • 4:47 - 4:48
when they're talking, they get caught up
  • 4:48 - 4:51
in the nitty-gritty of things. Like,
  • 4:51 - 4:53
you're trying to say- you give an over
  • 4:53 - 4:54
    exaggeration as an Australian, like
  • 4:54 - 4:57
everyone out here is being stupid and they
  • 4:57 - 5:00
go come on dude, not everybody. Well no,
  • 5:00 - 5:03
not everybody, of course. It's an over
  • 5:03 - 5:04
exaggeration, they just didn't get the
  • 5:04 - 5:05
    context.
  • 5:05 - 5:06
    That was a great accent.
  • 5:06 - 5:08
Do you think they're the best country in the
  • 5:08 - 5:10
    world? They claim they are.
  • 5:10 - 5:12
Maybe at a time they were, but definitely
  • 5:12 - 5:13
    not now.
  • 5:13 - 5:15
    Yeah, I think it's true.
  • 5:15 - 5:16
    Why is that?
  • 5:16 - 5:18
They're free. They've got it in their
  • 5:18 - 5:19
    national anthem, they're free.
  • 5:19 - 5:21
    No, they're not. They're a lot less
  • 5:21 - 5:24
educated and they really love their guns.
  • 5:24 - 5:26
    Definitely not the best, no.
  • 5:26 - 5:28
No, not at all. Definitely not.
  • 5:28 - 5:29
    No.
  • 5:29 - 5:31
I don't even know if they'd be top ten.
  • 5:31 - 5:34
    Every country- ask most Australians,
  • 5:34 - 5:36
they're going to say actually America is
  • 5:36 - 5:37
so stupid they think they're the best
  • 5:37 - 5:38
country in the world. They're stupid
  • 5:38 - 5:39
because it's actually Australia that's the
  • 5:39 - 5:40
    best country in the world.
  • 5:40 - 5:41
    Every country is lovely.
  • 5:41 - 5:44
Like it or not, they are the most
  • 5:44 - 5:47
influential country in the world. For a
  • 5:47 - 5:48
very long time after World War Two they
  • 5:48 - 5:50
were the biggest super power, the only
  • 5:50 - 5:53
super power. So I think a lot of their
  • 5:53 - 5:56
issues get put under a microscope and a
  • 5:56 - 5:58
lot of people forget that all countries
  • 5:58 - 5:59
    have these issues.
  • 5:59 - 6:01
Final question, if an American was
  • 6:01 - 6:02
watching this, what would you want to say
  • 6:02 - 6:03
    to them?
  • 6:03 - 6:05
    Um...
  • 6:05 - 6:07
I pray for you, my friend.
  • 6:07 - 6:10
I hope you guys are okay, is all I can say
  • 6:10 - 6:12
    I hope you're having a great life, I guess
  • 6:12 - 6:16
and I'm sorry if we offend you in any way.
  • 6:16 - 6:18
Sorry you have to pay for health care.
  • 6:18 - 6:21
It's not your fault individually. But
  • 6:21 - 6:23
    collectively, definitely.
  • 6:23 - 6:25
    Except Jerry.
  • 6:25 - 6:27
    We know what you did.
  • 6:27 - 6:29
What I would say to Americans is come on
  • 6:29 - 6:31
down. Spend your money here in Australia
  • 6:31 - 6:33
and have a great time. We're very similar
  • 6:33 - 6:37
    creatures. We both fought revolution
  • 6:37 - 6:39
against the British, the only difference
  • 6:39 - 6:44
is that the Americans kicked butt and the
  • 6:44 - 6:46
English kicked our butt at the Eureka
  • 6:46 - 6:49
Stockade, we lost. But apart from that,
  • 6:49 - 6:51
we're very similar creatures to the
  • 6:51 - 6:53
    Americans. Very, very similar indeed.
  • 6:53 - 6:55
    God bless America.
  • 6:57 - 6:58
Hey guys, hoped you enjoyed that. Leave a
  • 6:58 - 6:59
comment if you have any thoughts and make
  • 6:59 - 7:01
sure to subscribe because I'm now posting
  • 7:01 - 7:04
two videos per week. My next video is on
  • 7:04 - 7:07
screen right now if you want to watch it.
