-
I think, first of all, it's the abundance
of incredible drums.
-
It's very difficult to combine a taiko
and a tabla and a frame drum.
-
All these drums are used in a way
that they sound together.
-
It's the players.
-
It's also the concept that I compose
a frame for the people
-
where they can just let go,
improvise and show their art.
-
When I was a member of the Kudo drummers,
Mr. Reinhard Flatischler
-
came to our concert :
" I need these guys ! "
-
With musicians or masters
from this caliber,
-
basically, there's never going
to be a problem.
-
We are persons
-
or music-making people who want
to go further in just the musical form.
-
It's not percussion. It's music.
-
It's real music being played
and with no ego.
-
Actually, it is a very high
spiritual experience
-
for us musicians and for the people also.
-
Megadrums is perfect breeding ground
for those kinds of ideas.
-
In a way for me, to be
invited to join Megadrums is really
-
fulfilling some kind of destiny.
-
Melodies are very much involved.
It sounds very melodic.
-
Yet, in the center of the musical creation
is rhythm.
-
Nobody has to impress the others.
-
Because of that, it is much easier
to play together.
-
We all respect each other
-
and we enjoy each other.
-
You have very high quality music
that can be focused on a communication
-
with the audience but also for
them to see that drumming is not only
-
just an entertainment medium
but also a medium for
-
connecting with a healing energy.
-
We have the Shaman tradition
represented by Airto Moreira
-
and we have the Middle Eastern hand
drumming tradition, Indian tradition,
-
the Taiko drumming tradition
and these are all traditions
-
which have existed for thousands
of years and they are all
-
being represented and they have all
found that they all have a common ground.
