November 30 - Giving Up Paradise
-
0:05 - 0:07Principe is a magnificent “Lost World”
-
0:07 - 0:11with untouched beaches,
greener-than-green forests, -
0:11 - 0:14and a small yet welcoming population.
-
0:14 - 0:17This is truly an ecological sanctuary
for the handful of tourists -
0:17 - 0:20who visit this remote island
in Sao Tome and Principe. -
0:21 - 0:24There are many activities here
for guests and locals to enjoy: -
0:24 - 0:27relaxing beaches, jungle exploration,
-
0:27 - 0:30snorkeling, fishing, birdwatching,
-
0:30 - 0:31and other fun adventures.
-
0:31 - 0:34Surprisingly, Adventist youth in Principe
-
0:34 - 0:37decided to skip their summer vacation
in paradise. -
0:37 - 0:40Instead, they gave their time
to serve people -
0:40 - 0:42in a difficult-to-access region
of the island. -
0:42 - 0:44This group is Mission Caleb.
-
0:44 - 0:46They went to Vila Belavista,
-
0:46 - 0:48the village selected
for their summer project. -
0:49 - 0:50There are no paved roads
-
0:50 - 0:53and the team traveled carefully
through treacherous terrain. -
0:53 - 0:56Inspired by Caleb’s courage in the Bible,
-
0:56 - 1:00these young men and women
desire to have that same fearless spirit, -
1:00 - 1:02so they call themselves the Calebs.
-
1:02 - 1:05When the Calebs
first surveyed the community, -
1:05 - 1:06they found many people in need.
-
1:07 - 1:10So the young men began working
to clear access to people’s houses. -
1:14 - 1:17The young women did house chores
and cleaned up the walkways. -
1:21 - 1:25The group also visited the sick,
bringing hope and food supplies. -
1:25 - 1:26In this remote area,
-
1:26 - 1:29some villagers struggle
to survive on their own. -
1:36 - 1:40The Calebs’ unselfish acts
of service, kindness, and compassion -
1:40 - 1:43demonstrated their Christlike love.
-
1:43 - 1:46Soon they captured
the villagers’ attention -
1:46 - 1:47and people began to open up.
-
1:49 - 1:52I thought there was no solution
for me anymore. -
1:53 - 1:57After I lost my son,
I thought I should die. -
1:58 - 2:00When the Calebs came over,
-
2:00 - 2:03the pastor invited us to go to church.
-
2:04 - 2:07So, we accepted Jesus here
-
2:07 - 2:10and then went to the church in the city.
-
2:10 - 2:12Then we got baptized.
-
2:13 - 2:17The Calebs could not have imagined
how God would bless their efforts. -
2:17 - 2:20By giving up their summer in paradise,
-
2:20 - 2:23God was able
to reach the people of Vila Belavista. -
2:23 - 2:26Villagers asked questions
and requested Bible studies. -
2:26 - 2:29Others attended the special meetings
hosted in the village. -
2:29 - 2:33Today, the main congregation
plans to build a new church in this village -
2:33 - 2:35because many have accepted Jesus.
-
2:35 - 2:39Caleb, I am.
Mission Caleb, I will go. -
2:40 - 2:41Each summer,
-
2:41 - 2:44thousands of Mission Caleb youth
accept the challenge -
2:44 - 2:47to show compassion
and creatively serve all over the world. -
2:48 - 2:49Many times,
-
2:49 - 2:52the goal is to establish new groups
of believers in unentered areas. -
2:53 - 2:56God is using young people
in Sao Tome and Principe -
2:56 - 2:57and all over the world.
-
2:58 - 2:59How can He use you?
