Is the Age of Accountability Biblical? - Tim Conway

  • 0:13 - 0:15
Of course, I should have expected
  • 0:15 - 0:16
    that this one was coming.
  • 0:16 - 0:19
    Age of accountability.
  • 0:19 - 0:25
Si - he says, "A five year
    old missing girl's body
  • 0:25 - 0:28
was found recently encased in cement
  • 0:28 - 0:32
along a river bed in Michigan."
  • 0:32 - 0:36
Now, at this point, Si heard a news event.
  • 0:36 - 0:38
He's using that as kind of a launching pad
  • 0:38 - 0:39
    for his question.
  • 0:39 - 0:41
    He's making some assumptions now.
  • 0:41 - 0:45
    "Let's assume this child
    never heard the Gospel.
  • 0:45 - 0:47
    Could a Christian rightly comfort
  • 0:47 - 0:50
    the parents of this child
  • 0:50 - 0:53
    by saying that the child
    went immediately into Heaven?
  • 0:53 - 0:56
Do all children under a certain age
  • 0:56 - 0:58
    go to Heaven?
  • 0:58 - 1:00
    Do children go to hell
  • 1:00 - 1:03
if they never heard the Gospel?
  • 1:03 - 1:08
Is there an age of accountability?"
  • 1:08 - 1:12
    Now, bottom line,
  • 1:12 - 1:16
    the Bible does not say.
  • 1:16 - 1:19
But the Bible does say some things
  • 1:19 - 1:23
about some things that we can glean from
  • 1:23 - 1:28
    and make some dogmatic statements.
  • 1:28 - 1:33
    So, the first thing that
    I would say is this:
  • 1:33 - 1:36
    The Apostle Paul said this.
  • 1:36 - 1:39
    2 Timothy 3:15 - maybe some
    of you know this verse.
  • 1:39 - 1:41
    "The sacred writings..."
  • 1:41 - 1:44
    speaking of the Bible.
  • 1:44 - 1:47
He says, "they're able to make you wise
  • 1:47 - 1:49
    for salvation through
    faith in Christ Jesus."
  • 1:49 - 1:51
Well, why would I read that?
  • 1:51 - 1:52
    Because the Bible wasn't given
  • 1:52 - 1:55
    to answer every question
    that we can possibly ask.
  • 1:55 - 1:57
But you know what the Bible was given for?
  • 1:57 - 2:00
It was given for us who can think
  • 2:00 - 2:02
    and can reason
  • 2:02 - 2:05
to know the way by which to be saved.
  • 2:05 - 2:09
The fact is the Bible wasn't given
  • 2:09 - 2:12
specifically to tell us how people
  • 2:12 - 2:14
who can't reason might be saved
  • 2:14 - 2:15
    if they could be saved.
  • 2:15 - 2:17
It's given to those who can reason.
  • 2:17 - 2:19
    "The sacred writings are given
  • 2:19 - 2:22
to make a person wise for salvation."
  • 2:22 - 2:23
And you see, a lot of times,
  • 2:23 - 2:26
people get caught up with questions
  • 2:26 - 2:28
    that they want answers for,
  • 2:28 - 2:31
but you know what's more important?
  • 2:31 - 2:33
The most important thing for Si
  • 2:33 - 2:36
is to know the way of life
  • 2:36 - 2:38
and to make sure that he has it.
  • 2:38 - 2:40
    But now, that doesn't mean
  • 2:40 - 2:42
    that this question about children
  • 2:42 - 2:44
    doesn't have practical use.
  • 2:44 - 2:46
I'll guarantee you, it has pastoral use.
  • 2:46 - 2:48
When you come across a mother
  • 2:48 - 2:51
    that's lost a little child,
  • 2:51 - 2:53
what are you going to tell them?
  • 2:53 - 2:55
You know, is there anything we can say
  • 2:55 - 2:58
    to comfort them?
  • 2:58 - 3:00
    Okay, you know where
    people typically go here?
  • 3:00 - 3:02
    They typically go to David.
  • 3:02 - 3:03
    Some of you guys know
  • 3:03 - 3:06
    that David had an illicit
    relationship with Bathsheba.
  • 3:06 - 3:09
    That's usually well-known.
  • 3:09 - 3:11
    He committed adultery.
    He committed murder.
  • 3:11 - 3:14
But, there was a child born.
  • 3:14 - 3:17
You folks know about the child.
  • 3:17 - 3:19
    2 Samuel 12:23
  • 3:19 - 3:21
You know that David was fasting.
  • 3:21 - 3:23
He was fasting asking God to preserve
  • 3:23 - 3:25
the life of this little child.
  • 3:25 - 3:27
    He saw some servants whispering.
  • 3:27 - 3:29
He figured, well, the child's dead.
  • 3:29 - 3:33
    He went and washed himself.
    He went and ate.
  • 3:33 - 3:34
They wondered, well, this is odd.
  • 3:34 - 3:37
    Why did you fast then,
  • 3:37 - 3:39
    and now the child's dead?
  • 3:39 - 3:42
It seems like you would fast and
pray now? You would mourn now?
  • 3:42 - 3:44
    He said, "now he's dead.
    Why should I fast?
  • 3:44 - 3:46
Can I bring him back again?
  • 3:46 - 3:49
    I shall go to him,
  • 3:49 - 3:50
but he will not return to me."
  • 3:50 - 3:52
And a lot of people have gone there
  • 3:52 - 3:53
    and they say, well, see,
  • 3:53 - 3:56
David was a man after God's own heart.
  • 3:56 - 3:58
We know David is a saved man.
  • 3:58 - 3:59
We know David is in glory.
  • 3:59 - 4:02
If David is going to go
    to where the child is
  • 4:02 - 4:04
and David is a saved man,
  • 4:04 - 4:08
then the child must have been saved.
  • 4:08 - 4:13
Now that's how folks would reason.
  • 4:13 - 4:14
    One thing I would say
  • 4:14 - 4:16
    in the Old Testament is
  • 4:16 - 4:20
that they didn't have a super developed
  • 4:20 - 4:24
    theology of heaven and hell.
  • 4:24 - 4:28
Now listen, some things are said
in the Old Testament like this:
  • 4:28 - 4:31
God said - now think about this -
  • 4:31 - 4:33
the same logic could be used
  • 4:33 - 4:35
    in other places.
  • 4:35 - 4:38
    Such as, think about Abraham.
  • 4:38 - 4:41
    Is Abraham in Heaven?
  • 4:41 - 4:48
    Prove it.
  • 4:48 - 4:51
    Luke 16 - that's a good one.
  • 4:51 - 4:54
Lazarus went to Abraham's bosom, right?
  • 4:54 - 4:57
Which means Abraham was on the good side.
  • 4:57 - 4:59
And Jesus said too, many will
    come from east and west
  • 4:59 - 5:01
    and they'll sit down
    and they'll recline
  • 5:01 - 5:03
in the Kingdom of Heaven with Abraham
  • 5:03 - 5:04
    and Isaac and Jacob.
  • 5:04 - 5:06
    Obviously, he's there.
  • 5:06 - 5:09
Right? I mean, Romans 4 is all about that.
  • 5:09 - 5:10
Right? He was justified by faith.
  • 5:10 - 5:12
    He's a justified man.
  • 5:12 - 5:13
Okay, here's what God says to him
  • 5:13 - 5:15
    in Genesis 15:15.
  • 5:15 - 5:19
He says, "you shall go to
    your fathers in peace.
  • 5:19 - 5:21
You shall be buried in a good old age."
  • 5:21 - 5:23
Now here's what God said to him.
  • 5:23 - 5:25
You're going to go to your fathers.
  • 5:25 - 5:28
    Okay? Logical deduction,
  • 5:28 - 5:32
all his fathers must be in Heaven, right?
  • 5:32 - 5:34
    And yet the Bible distinctly
tells us that's not the case.
  • 5:34 - 5:36
The Bible tells us that his father
  • 5:36 - 5:38
    and his father's father -
  • 5:38 - 5:41
    Joshua 24:2 -
  • 5:41 - 5:42
"Joshua said to all the people,
  • 5:42 - 5:44
thus says the Lord, the God of Israel,
  • 5:44 - 5:46
    long ago your fathers lived
    beyond the Euphrates.
  • 5:46 - 5:48
Terah, the father of Abraham and of Nahor,
  • 5:48 - 5:51
    they served other gods.
  • 5:51 - 5:54
    God took our father Abraham
    from beyond the river
  • 5:54 - 5:55
    and led him through
    all the land of Canaan."
  • 5:55 - 5:56
    You know what?
  • 5:56 - 5:59
Basically, all the forefathers of Abraham
  • 5:59 - 6:01
    were idolaters.
  • 6:01 - 6:06
    And there's no indication that
    they turned to the Lord.
  • 6:06 - 6:10
So I mean, the very point that it's said
  • 6:10 - 6:13
that he's going to be with his fathers,
  • 6:13 - 6:15
a lot of times they had this mindset
  • 6:15 - 6:19
    that you know, the dead
  • 6:19 - 6:23
are kind of going all to the same place.
  • 6:23 - 6:24
    And they talked that way.
  • 6:24 - 6:26
    In fact, you know what
comes to my mind right off -
  • 6:26 - 6:29
    I wasn't thinking about it earlier -
  • 6:29 - 6:33
when the witch at Endor raised up Samuel,
  • 6:33 - 6:36
didn't Samuel - now is Samuel in Heaven?
  • 6:36 - 6:39
We would say yes, he was a righteous man.
  • 6:39 - 6:42
Saul, I believe, was a lost man.
  • 6:42 - 6:44
    And yet, you know what
    Samuel says to Saul?
  • 6:44 - 6:47
You're going to be where I am tomorrow.
  • 6:47 - 6:49
    And I don't believe that
    that's an indication
  • 6:49 - 6:55
that Samuel was an apparition -
    a demonic apparition.
  • 6:55 - 6:57
And I don't think it necessarily means
  • 6:57 - 6:59
that Saul was a saved man.
  • 6:59 - 7:01
I believe what it means is
  • 7:01 - 7:03
there's an abode where they go to.
  • 7:03 - 7:05
    Anyways, all that being said,
  • 7:05 - 7:08
    I don't think that David saying -
  • 7:08 - 7:10
because see, we have this kind of talk
  • 7:10 - 7:13
in the Old Testament that really showed
  • 7:13 - 7:15
that they had this idea that the dead
  • 7:15 - 7:19
kind of went to the same place.
  • 7:19 - 7:21
    You don't find this distinction
  • 7:21 - 7:23
    between heaven and hell
  • 7:23 - 7:26
    really vividly set forth
    in the Old Testament.
  • 7:26 - 7:29
They did not have an accomplished
    theology of that there.
  • 7:29 - 7:33
So I don't believe that you can make
  • 7:33 - 7:34
    with these other things -
  • 7:34 - 7:35
    the witch at Endor
  • 7:35 - 7:37
and this thing said about Abraham -
  • 7:37 - 7:39
    it's very similar language.
  • 7:39 - 7:42
And I think you could come
to the same kind of deductions,
  • 7:42 - 7:44
which you obviously don't want to come to,
  • 7:44 - 7:46
if you start using that same reasoning
  • 7:46 - 7:47
    with these other cases.
  • 7:47 - 7:49
And we could probably multiply these.
  • 7:49 - 7:52
I know that in Chronicles and Kings,
  • 7:52 - 7:55
    it likewise says things about
  • 7:55 - 7:57
    even maybe wicked kings
  • 7:57 - 7:59
going to the place of their fathers
  • 7:59 - 8:01
    or sleeping with their fathers.
  • 8:01 - 8:03
    And some of those
    fathers were righteous men.
  • 8:03 - 8:06
    Some of those fathers
    were not righteous men.
  • 8:06 - 8:07
I think it was just a way
  • 8:07 - 8:12
    that the Old Testament
    saints viewed things.
  • 8:12 - 8:17
So I say, you know, I don't think
  • 8:17 - 8:21
    you can dogmatically
    prove anything by that.
  • 8:21 - 8:23
    Now what can we prove?
  • 8:23 - 8:26
    What can we say dogmatically?
  • 8:26 - 8:28
    I can tell you this,
  • 8:28 - 8:31
children from the womb are not innocent.
  • 8:31 - 8:34
    We can prove that beyond
any shadow of a doubt. How?
  • 8:34 - 8:35
    Well, it's a simple test.
  • 8:35 - 8:37
We've already said tonight, Romans 3:10.
  • 8:37 - 8:38
    "None is righteous."
  • 8:38 - 8:40
    That includes every little child,
  • 8:40 - 8:42
and in fact, David himself says,
  • 8:42 - 8:45
"I was brought forth in iniquity."
  • 8:45 - 8:47
    Psalm 51:5, "...and in sin
  • 8:47 - 8:50
    did my mother conceive me."
  • 8:50 - 8:53
    You know what? Little children
    are conceived in sin.
  • 8:53 - 8:54
    Little children are not righteous.
  • 8:54 - 8:57
    Little children are not innocent.
  • 8:57 - 8:59
Little children are conceived in sin.
  • 8:59 - 9:01
From day one, the moment they're conceived
  • 9:01 - 9:04
    it's in sin.
  • 9:04 - 9:06
Let me tell you something else
  • 9:06 - 9:07
    that's dogmatic.
  • 9:07 - 9:11
    Little children die.
  • 9:11 - 9:13
    You say, well, that's obvious.
  • 9:13 - 9:21
But, hey, the wages of sin is what?
  • 9:21 - 9:22
    Death.
  • 9:22 - 9:27
    Why do little children die?
  • 9:27 - 9:30
If they're innocent, why do they die?
  • 9:30 - 9:32
    Well, we've already established,
  • 9:32 - 9:33
    they're not innocent.
  • 9:33 - 9:35
    There's none righteous.
  • 9:35 - 9:41
    We know that everybody
    is conceived in sin.
  • 9:41 - 9:42
    They die.
  • 9:42 - 9:44
That's one of the great evidences
  • 9:44 - 9:48
    that there is indeed guilt
    associated with them.
  • 9:48 - 9:50
And then let's just think about
  • 9:50 - 9:52
the Romans 5 argument of Paul.
  • 9:52 - 9:54
Just the fact that, listen to this,
  • 9:54 - 9:56
    you guys know this.
  • 9:56 - 9:59
    1 Corinthians 15:22 gives us
    some of the same information
  • 9:59 - 10:01
    that Romans 5 gives us.
  • 10:01 - 10:03
    "As in Adam all die,
  • 10:03 - 10:06
    so also in Christ shall
    all be made alive."
  • 10:06 - 10:09
The fact is, all in Adam die.
  • 10:09 - 10:11
Why? Because all in Adam have sinned.
  • 10:11 - 10:13
All in Adam are guilty of Adam's sin.
  • 10:13 - 10:15
    All in Adam are condemned.
  • 10:15 - 10:20
All in Adam are under the judgment of God.
  • 10:20 - 10:24
You know what the Scriptures say?
  • 10:24 - 10:26
    We were children of wrath
  • 10:26 - 10:28
    like the rest of mankind.
  • 10:28 - 10:29
    You know what that means?
  • 10:29 - 10:32
All the rest of mankind -
    children of wrath.
  • 10:32 - 10:33
    Little children are conceived
  • 10:33 - 10:35
    children of wrath.
  • 10:35 - 10:36
    They're in Adam.
  • 10:36 - 10:37
    They're guilty of Adam's sin.
  • 10:37 - 10:39
    They're guilty of original sin.
  • 10:39 - 10:42
They are under the condemnation of God.
  • 10:42 - 10:44
Death is a reality in their lives.
  • 10:44 - 10:46
Death is a wage of sin.
  • 10:46 - 10:47
    Clearly, they die.
  • 10:47 - 10:49
    Clearly, the implications of sin
  • 10:49 - 10:50
    are upon their life.
  • 10:50 - 10:53
    Clearly, they're not
    conceived in innocence.
  • 10:53 - 10:56
    Clearly, their conceived in iniquity.
  • 10:56 - 11:00
Those things we know to be true.
  • 11:00 - 11:02
    I'll tell you something else.
  • 11:02 - 11:07
    God had infants slaughtered.
  • 11:07 - 11:08
    That's another thing we know
  • 11:08 - 11:09
    absolutely for certain.
  • 11:09 - 11:11
I'll just give you one instance -
  • 11:11 - 11:13
1 Samuel 15:3, "Go and strike Amalek
  • 11:13 - 11:16
    and devote to destruction
    all that they have.
  • 11:16 - 11:17
    Do not spare them.
  • 11:17 - 11:19
    Kill both man and woman,
  • 11:19 - 11:23
    child and infant."
  • 11:23 - 11:27
I mean, I'm in Judges now,
  • 11:27 - 11:32
but I just recently read through Joshua.
  • 11:32 - 11:34
    I was imagining what
    it would have been like
  • 11:34 - 11:35
    to have been an Israelite
  • 11:35 - 11:39
    going into those Canaanite villages
  • 11:39 - 11:42
where they were told to destroy everybody.
  • 11:42 - 11:47
    I mean, folks, when those
    walls of Jericho came down,
  • 11:47 - 11:52
    there was only one lady
    and her family spared.
  • 11:52 - 11:54
    Everybody else, under the sword.
  • 11:54 - 11:57
You think about going in with the sword.
  • 11:57 - 11:59
    You've got pregnant mothers.
  • 11:59 - 12:02
They slaughtered them on the spot.
  • 12:02 - 12:03
    You've got a little infant -
  • 12:03 - 12:06
    they slaughtered them.
  • 12:06 - 12:10
    And that was God ordained.
  • 12:10 - 12:11
    Now you think about God
  • 12:11 - 12:14
having little children put to death.
  • 12:14 - 12:19
    Does that speak of innocence?
  • 12:19 - 12:22
    But then let's go here,
  • 12:22 - 12:25
we know that the Bible teaches us as well
  • 12:25 - 12:28
    God is good. Psalm 52:1.
  • 12:28 - 12:31
"The goodness of God endures continually."
  • 12:31 - 12:32
How about this? "God is just."
  • 12:32 - 12:34
    Deuteronomy 32:4.
  • 12:34 - 12:37
"God is a God of faithfulness
    and without iniquity.
  • 12:37 - 12:40
    Just and upright is He."
  • 12:40 - 12:41
    And you know what?
  • 12:41 - 12:44
God didn't need to offer mankind
  • 12:44 - 12:47
any way of salvation, and yet He does.
  • 12:47 - 12:49
    And we know that Scripturally.
  • 12:49 - 12:53
God has offered man a way of salvation.
  • 12:53 - 12:55
Call upon the name of the Lord
  • 12:55 - 12:57
    and you will be saved.
  • 12:57 - 12:59
    I'll tell you what,
  • 12:59 - 13:02
    little children, little infants,
  • 13:02 - 13:07
little children in their mother's wombs,
  • 13:07 - 13:09
    cannot call on the Lord.
  • 13:09 - 13:12
They don't have the faculties to believe.
  • 13:12 - 13:13
    And I'll tell you this,
  • 13:13 - 13:16
if there is another way of salvation,
  • 13:16 - 13:18
    God never tells us it.
  • 13:18 - 13:19
    Right?
  • 13:19 - 13:22
There's only one way of salvation
  • 13:22 - 13:23
we know of in all the Scripture.
  • 13:23 - 13:27
And little children are incapable of it.
  • 13:27 - 13:30
Right? I can dogmatically say that.
  • 13:30 - 13:34
    How shall I be saved?
Call upon the name of the Lord.
  • 13:34 - 13:37
    They told the Philippian jailer,
  • 13:37 - 13:39
    "believe on the name
    of the Lord Jesus Christ
  • 13:39 - 13:41
    and thou shall be saved."
  • 13:41 - 13:44
There's one way given among men.
  • 13:44 - 13:47
    It's in Christ and it's
    by faith in Christ.
  • 13:47 - 13:48
    There is no other way.
  • 13:48 - 13:51
There's no other way given in Scripture.
  • 13:51 - 13:53
    It can't be argued.
  • 13:53 - 13:55
Little children do not have the faculties.
  • 13:55 - 13:56
    There are little children
  • 13:56 - 13:58
    aborted in their mother's wombs,
  • 13:58 - 14:01
or miscarried in their mother's wombs,
  • 14:01 - 14:04
at a day after, at a month after,
  • 14:04 - 14:09
    at a week after conception.
  • 14:09 - 14:12
    There's no faculty there
    for them to believe.
  • 14:12 - 14:14
At least, that we know of.
  • 14:14 - 14:16
    Not that we can imagine.
  • 14:16 - 14:17
    There are people born retarded
  • 14:17 - 14:20
that we can't imagine have faculties.
  • 14:20 - 14:22
If there is another way of salvation,
  • 14:22 - 14:26
    we don't know about it.
  • 14:26 - 14:29
But then let me say this,
  • 14:29 - 14:32
and this is really the last thing
  • 14:32 - 14:34
I would say on this subject.
  • 14:34 - 14:36
    Romans 1:18,
  • 14:36 - 14:38
"The wrath of God is revealed from heaven
  • 14:38 - 14:41
    against all ungodliness and
    unrighteousness of men
  • 14:41 - 14:43
    who by their unrighteousness
    suppress the truth.
  • 14:43 - 14:45
    For what can be known
about God is plain to them
  • 14:45 - 14:47
because God has shown it to them.
  • 14:47 - 14:50
    For His invisible attributes,
    namely His eternal power
  • 14:50 - 14:52
    and divine nature have
    been clearly perceived
  • 14:52 - 14:54
ever since the creation of the world
  • 14:54 - 14:55
in the things that have been made,
  • 14:55 - 14:57
    so they are without excuse."
  • 14:57 - 14:58
    Can I tell you something?
  • 14:58 - 15:01
    God damns men who have
    never heard the Gospel.
  • 15:01 - 15:03
God damns men that have never
  • 15:03 - 15:05
heard the name of Jesus Christ.
  • 15:05 - 15:08
And He is absolutely just in doing so.
  • 15:08 - 15:09
    You know why?
  • 15:09 - 15:11
Because what can be known about God
  • 15:11 - 15:15
has been revealed in the creation
  • 15:15 - 15:17
so that they are without excuse.
  • 15:17 - 15:19
What I would say is this,
  • 15:19 - 15:23
    definitely, God tells us
  • 15:23 - 15:28
and He wants to make it clear
  • 15:28 - 15:32
    that those that don't hear
  • 15:32 - 15:34
    are justly condemned
  • 15:34 - 15:38
    and they are without excuse.
  • 15:38 - 15:40
Now the case could be made for children
  • 15:40 - 15:43
    that they have an excuse.
  • 15:43 - 15:45
    They never had an opportunity
  • 15:45 - 15:47
    to reject the light.
  • 15:47 - 15:53
So it may be that in light of that,
  • 15:53 - 15:56
they have an excuse by which
  • 15:56 - 16:00
God in His mercies - and
    because they're in Adam,
  • 16:00 - 16:04
what Christ did on the cross,
  • 16:04 - 16:06
although they may not have ever committed
  • 16:06 - 16:09
    any of their actual sin,
  • 16:09 - 16:14
    condemnation came upon
    all men through Adam.
  • 16:14 - 16:18
    And you know what?
  • 16:18 - 16:22
It may be that in the death
    of Christ on that cross,
  • 16:22 - 16:29
    it may be that He
    cancelled out Adam's sin.
  • 16:29 - 16:32
And it may be that there is a way
  • 16:32 - 16:35
that God has made that we know not of
  • 16:35 - 16:38
    and is not expressly
    declared in the Scripture
  • 16:38 - 16:42
    because they are without excuse.
  • 16:42 - 16:45
But you see, all I'm trying to say
    is what the Scripture says.
  • 16:45 - 16:48
And men, oh boy, they are
    so dogmatic on both sides.
  • 16:48 - 16:51
You can go talk to one
    of our favorite missionaries
  • 16:51 - 16:53
    over in China,
  • 16:53 - 16:59
    and he does not believe
    it's consistent with God
  • 16:59 - 17:02
that God would have them struck dead
  • 17:02 - 17:05
and then usher them straight into glory.
  • 17:05 - 17:06
    He believes there's an inconsistency.
  • 17:06 - 17:08
And yet on the other hand,
  • 17:08 - 17:10
    one of our other favorite
    patron saints of old,
  • 17:10 - 17:12
    Charles Spurgeon was dogmatic
  • 17:12 - 17:14
    that all children -
  • 17:14 - 17:17
    and of course, I think
    the safe thing to say
  • 17:17 - 17:23
is all elect children are in Heaven.
  • 17:23 - 17:25
Because the fact is that when you
  • 17:25 - 17:27
    boil it all down,
  • 17:27 - 17:29
    and I know John MacArthur
    wrote a book on it
  • 17:29 - 17:30
    and he's dogmatic,
  • 17:30 - 17:33
and I know John Piper just recently
  • 17:33 - 17:35
    lost a little grandchild
  • 17:35 - 17:38
just right after it was born.
  • 17:38 - 17:41
And he doesn't get real dogmatic.
  • 17:41 - 17:43
I've heard him before, he appeals
  • 17:43 - 17:44
    to this text in Romans
  • 17:44 - 17:47
that maybe they have an excuse.
  • 17:47 - 17:50
The fact is I've given you some things
  • 17:50 - 17:52
I think we can be dogmatic about,
  • 17:52 - 17:54
and there's just some things we can't be.
