Stage 5 Practice Schedule (Guitar Lesson BC-159) Guitar for beginners Stage 5
-
0:06 - 0:08How're you doing? Justin here!
-
0:08 - 0:11Guess what?
You've finished stage 5, which is really cool, -
0:11 - 0:14because we're about to get into
some kind of heavy duty hardcore stuff. -
0:14 - 0:17In fact, the next stage is one of the most important ones.
-
0:17 - 0:23So I really want you to be sure that you've consolidated
all your information you've got so far on this stage. -
0:24 - 0:27Things you should be doing:
First of all, you should have your finger workout, -
0:27 - 0:32so making sure that you're getting your fingers
stretched out; that 1, 2, 3, 4 little exercise. -
0:32 - 0:36Remember that if you're not feeling a bit of a stretch
in your fingers, you're not doing any good. -
0:36 - 0:40So make sure that you're really keeping them
and stretching out as far as you can. -
0:40 - 0:43That's a really, really good exercise and it'll definitelly help
you with your chord playing -
0:43 - 0:46and the scales stuff that we'll learn later on as well.
-
0:46 - 0:50Second thing you should have on your practice schedule
is your chord practice, -
0:50 - 0:53making sure that you're still doing
your strum, pick out, strum -
0:53 - 0:55on any of the chords that aren't perfect.
-
0:55 - 1:01You should really be aiming now to make sure every chord,
every note in every chord sounds great. -
1:01 - 1:03Really clear, no buzzy notes, no dead notes.
-
1:03 - 1:07Making sure that you know what strings
should be picked on each chord. -
1:07 - 1:08That's really, really important.
-
1:08 - 1:13So, plenty of time on that, there should be, you know,
your 5 minutes a day kind of amount, -
1:13 - 1:15maybe a little bit more if you've got extra time.
-
1:15 - 1:18Next thing you should have your 5 'minute changes',
-
1:18 - 1:23so making sure that you picked
the 5 hardest chords for you to change between -
1:23 - 1:26and you work on each one for minute, timing yourself.
-
1:26 - 1:29The timing yourself thing,
I know it seems a little bit over the top, -
1:29 - 1:32that you have to get your stopwatch out and time yourself.
-
1:32 - 1:35But if you're writing down the amount of changes
that you make each practice session, -
1:35 - 1:40it can be really good as kind of self motivation for you
to keep practising and keep on going. -
1:40 - 1:43And you'll watch yourself improve,
that can be kind of inspiring as well. -
1:43 - 1:45So I highly recomend doing that.
-
1:46 - 1:48Then you've got your rhythm guitar.
-
1:48 - 1:50Now, what I would be recommending for your rhythm guitar,
-
1:50 - 1:53is really working on that kind of shuffle rhythm,
trying to get that under your fingers, -
1:53 - 1:58as well as a little bit of revision
on your RUST pattern number 8, -
1:58 - 2:03because that's a really important one and
we're going to be developing that in the next stage. -
2:03 - 2:05We're going to be introducing this thing called "ties".
-
2:05 - 2:08So that pattern needs to be really strong,
so make sure you'll give that a look, -
2:08 - 2:14as well as revising your shuffle pattern.
That's what you should be sussing out. -
2:14 - 2:15Then you should have your songs.
-
2:15 - 2:19Now, I would recommend the songs
that you work on at this stage, -
2:19 - 2:23will be your 12 bar blueses in the 3 different keys as shown in the common chord sequences,
-
2:23 - 2:27because they are really, really, really
common chord sequences. -
2:27 - 2:29They make thousands of songs.
-
2:29 - 2:31I will eventually try and get a list of songs
that use that 12 bar blues, -
2:31 - 2:34but there is loads and loads and loads
and loads and loads. -
2:34 - 2:39And I've given you a few different slight variations
that you'll get on the 12 bar blues -
2:39 - 2:41amongst those 3 patterns.
-
2:42 - 2:45So, definitely it'll be worth having a look at that
as your song choices -
2:45 - 2:47or common chord sequences for this stage.
-
2:47 - 2:52As well as that, for those of you doing it,
you should be doing your JUSTIN Ear Training as well. -
2:52 - 2:56That would be a really good thing to keep your ears
locked in to the different sounds -
2:56 - 3:00and starting to recognise those different chord
sequences now, and your dominant chords and stuff. -
3:00 - 3:03That should be progressing pretty good by this stage.
-
3:03 - 3:07So, lots to do, lots of stuff to consolidate.
-
3:07 - 3:09Really make this good week,
trying keep your motivation up. -
3:09 - 3:12We're about to, like I said, about to do some really cool stuff.
-
3:12 - 3:16So, stick at it and I'll see you for stage 6 really soon.
-
3:16 - 3:18Take care of yourselves and bye bye!
