In this video I address our struggles with black and white, all or nothing, and catastrophizing thinking. We often don't even realize that we do this until it is too late, and we are using our ED or our SH to manage the feelings of disappointment or guilt that we feel when things don't quite go as planned. It is because we do this so often, and many of us struggle with a need for perfection that we fall victim to this process of thinking. So the first thing I would like you to do is simply notice when you are triggered most. I know that that can be really hard, but when you feel the urges at their worst I want you to think about what happened or who you saw that day. Or sometimes even 2 days ago. So just notice.

Then I want you to write down what things you find most triggering and why. Is it family? Friends? School or work stress? Once we know that, we can begin to "cope ahead" and prepare ourselves for the times when we will be triggered. That can include breathing exercises, journaling, venting to a friend, maybe seeing our therapist twice that week, etc. Anything to help us vent our emotions more than usual.

Then we go to whatever event we find triggering and we just see how we do. Did that help? Is it worse? What can we try next time? It's okay if it doesn't work this time. We are learning, and working on changing the way we think. This is really hard work!!! So be patient and keep fighting, as we work towards a Healthy Mind and a Healthy Body.
