Are Mormons and Catholics Christians? - Tim Conway

  • 0:10 - 0:13
As you are all well aware,
  • 0:13 - 0:19
there are only really two religions
  • 0:19 - 0:23
on the face of this earth.
  • 0:23 - 0:28
(Aside) Don't you have a shirt that says
  • 0:28 - 0:33
    Christianity is not a religion?
  • 0:33 - 0:36
Religion in years past was not
  • 0:36 - 0:40
the negative and derogatory term that it is today,
  • 0:40 - 0:43
so I almost hesitate to call Christianity [that].
  • 0:43 - 0:45
But you know what we're talking about,
  • 0:45 - 0:47
    there are really only basically
  • 0:47 - 0:49
    two basic religions that exist,
  • 0:49 - 0:51
    that have ever really existed.
  • 0:51 - 0:53
    One is divine accomplishment:
  • 0:53 - 0:59
God provides for everything man needs to be saved.
  • 0:59 - 1:04
Over against all the religions of human works
  • 1:04 - 1:09
that basically say I must do something to merit God's favor.
  • 1:09 - 1:11
    And everything I just described,
  • 1:11 - 1:14
whether it's Catholicism, Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses,
  • 1:14 - 1:17
Islam, and go down the line...
  • 1:17 - 1:19
    Hinduism, Buddhism...
  • 1:19 - 1:24
they fall into this category of human works.
  • 1:24 - 1:31
Now I realize among those religions
  • 1:31 - 1:35
    that fall into that category,
  • 1:35 - 1:43
some speak more highly of Christ than others.
  • 1:43 - 1:45
    They don't honor Him,
  • 1:45 - 1:52
they just are not as derogatory towards Him as, say, Islam is.
  • 1:52 - 1:55
Catholicism will actually say some things
  • 1:55 - 1:58
that we would agree with, right?
  • 1:58 - 2:00
    They would claim He's God.
  • 2:00 - 2:04
The problem is they make Mary out
  • 2:04 - 2:08
as the one who did what He did.
  • 2:08 - 2:10
    So they really dishonor Him.
  • 2:10 - 2:12
They do great disservice to Him.
  • 2:12 - 2:16
But can a true Christian continue as a Mormon?
  • 2:16 - 2:21
I would say to James, here's his actual question:
  • 2:21 - 2:23
    Pastor Tim, I'm a member
  • 2:23 - 2:29
of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon)
  • 2:29 - 2:31
who has recently come to know the Lord.
  • 2:31 - 2:33
I'm wondering if it's possible to
  • 2:33 - 2:36
still remain as an active member of this organization
  • 2:36 - 2:42
while having had the born again experience. Thank you.
  • 2:42 - 2:45
So help me out, guys. You answer it.
  • 2:45 - 2:48
Can he stay? (responses from the room)
  • 2:48 - 2:51
    There's the question, right there.
  • 2:51 - 2:53
That's exactly where my mind went.
  • 2:53 - 3:00
    Why would you want to?
  • 3:00 - 3:04
    I don't know and he doesn't say.
  • 3:04 - 3:09
But I can tell you this, typically in Mormonism,
  • 3:09 - 3:19
in Catholicism, in Islam, there are strong families. Exactly.
  • 3:19 - 3:24
Typically, the reason you want to stay in a system
  • 3:24 - 3:29
that does not line up with true Christianity
  • 3:29 - 3:32
is because you're trying to please somebody.
  • 3:32 - 3:35
    You're not wanting to suffer
  • 3:35 - 3:40
the consequences of having come to Christ.
  • 3:40 - 3:46
    Listen: Revelation 18:2,
  • 3:46 - 3:50
"And he called out with a mighty voice,
  • 3:50 - 3:53
'fallen, fallen is Babylon the Great."
  • 3:53 - 3:55
Let me say something to you, in the book of Revelation,
  • 3:55 - 3:59
do you know who Babylon the Great is?
  • 3:59 - 4:04
    Do you remember that picture of a whore;
  • 4:04 - 4:12
    what was she riding on?
  • 4:12 - 4:23
A beast? And it was called something,
  • 4:23 - 4:28
but the term Babylon is used.
  • 4:28 - 4:30
Folks, let me tell you something.
  • 4:30 - 4:33
    A very symbolic book;
  • 4:33 - 4:38
what is the church described as?
  • 4:38 - 4:43
A bride. The bride of Christ.
  • 4:43 - 4:47
    False religion is a whore.
  • 4:47 - 4:50
    False religion is an adulteress.
  • 4:50 - 4:54
False religion is described as Babylon.
  • 4:54 - 4:58
    Basically, false religion has become
  • 4:58 - 5:01
    a dwelling place for demons,
  • 5:01 - 5:03
a haunt for every unclean spirit,
  • 5:03 - 5:05
a haunt for every unclean bird,
  • 5:05 - 5:08
a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast,
  • 5:08 - 5:10
    all the nations have drunk
  • 5:10 - 5:15
the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality.
  • 5:15 - 5:18
    False religion pervades every country
  • 5:18 - 5:21
on the face of this earth. Guaranteed.
  • 5:21 - 5:27
They have all drunk of the passion of her sexual immorality.
  • 5:27 - 5:29
How many governments in this world
  • 5:29 - 5:33
    are Catholic governments? Muslim governments?
  • 5:33 - 5:35
And even the ones like in Turkey
  • 5:35 - 5:39
    who claim to be secular,
  • 5:39 - 5:45
they're drunk with the passions of the sexual immorality of Islam.
  • 5:45 - 5:46
    No question about it.
  • 5:46 - 5:50
The kings of the earth have committed immorality with her,
  • 5:50 - 5:52
and the merchants of the earth
  • 5:52 - 5:55
have grown rich from the power of her luxurious living,
  • 5:55 - 5:58
then I heard another voice from heaven saying this,
  • 5:58 - 6:02
'Come out of her, My people,
  • 6:02 - 6:04
lest you take part in her sins,
  • 6:04 - 6:06
lest you share in her plagues,
  • 6:06 - 6:09
for her sins are heaped high as heaven,
  • 6:09 - 6:11
and God has remembered her iniquities.'
  • 6:11 - 6:15
Mormonism is taking multitudes to hell!
  • 6:15 - 6:18
    Come out from among her.
  • 6:18 - 6:21
Or 2 Corinthians 6:16, we are the temple of the living God,
  • 6:21 - 6:24
as God said, I will make my dwelling among them,
  • 6:24 - 6:25
    and walk among them,
  • 6:25 - 6:29
and I will be their God and they shall be My people.
  • 6:29 - 6:32
Therefore, go out from their midst
  • 6:32 - 6:34
and be separate from them, says the Lord, and
  • 6:34 - 6:37
touch no unclean thing and I will welcome you,
  • 6:37 - 6:39
and I will be a Father to you,
  • 6:39 - 6:41
and you shall be the sons and daughters to me,
  • 6:41 - 6:43
    says the Lord Almighty.
  • 6:43 - 6:48
Listen: we know well Paul's words, do we not?
  • 6:48 - 6:51
Even if we or an angel, Galatians 1:8,
  • 6:51 - 6:54
even an angel from heaven should preach to you
  • 6:54 - 6:57
a gospel contrary to the one we preach to you,
  • 6:57 - 6:59
    let him be accursed.
  • 6:59 - 7:01
    Do you realize Mormonism falls
  • 7:01 - 7:07
under the accursement of this inspired apostle?
  • 7:07 - 7:11
His curse on all who proclaim another gospel.
  • 7:11 - 7:15
You say, does Mormonism preach another gospel?
  • 7:15 - 7:22
Listen: the 3rd article of faith of the Church of Latter Day Saints,
  • 7:22 - 7:26
one of the 13 points of their basic church doctrine:
  • 7:26 - 7:32
Anybody involved in the Church of Latter Day Saints can look this up,
  • 7:32 - 7:40
it is their 3rd article of their 13 basic points.
  • 7:40 - 7:45
They're collectively known in Mormonism as the articles of faith.
  • 7:45 - 7:50
They're included in the standard Latter Day Saints scriptures,
  • 7:50 - 7:54
and members are encouraged to become familiar or memorize them,
  • 7:54 - 7:59
the third article of faith reads verbatim:
  • 7:59 - 8:03
We believe that through the atonement of Christ,
  • 8:03 - 8:06
all mankind may be saved by obedience
  • 8:06 - 8:10
to the laws and ordinances of the gospel."
  • 8:10 - 8:12
    And you better hear that...
  • 8:12 - 8:16
they're not saying we're saved by the atonement of Christ,
  • 8:16 - 8:19
    and everything He achieved there.
  • 8:19 - 8:22
You are only saved by the atonement of Christ
  • 8:22 - 8:31
and maybe saved by obedience to the laws.
  • 8:31 - 8:36
I'm going to quote to you from the teachings of Ezra Taft Benson,
  • 8:36 - 8:46
13th president of the LDS in his teachings, pages 353-354,
  • 8:46 - 8:52
he says this, "Grace consists of God's gift to His children
  • 8:52 - 8:55
wherein He gave His only begotten Son
  • 8:55 - 8:58
that whosoever would believe in Him,
  • 8:58 - 9:03
and comply with His laws and ordinances would have everlasting life.
  • 9:03 - 9:09
Or Bruce Redd McConckie, an apostle of the LDS,
  • 9:09 - 9:13
in his book "Mormon Doctrine," page 408
  • 9:13 - 9:18
"As with all other doctrines of salvation,
  • 9:18 - 9:23
justification is available because of the atoning sacrifice of Christ,
  • 9:23 - 9:27
but it becomes operative in the life of an individual
  • 9:27 - 9:33
only on conditions of personal righteousness."
  • 9:33 - 9:41
That is a blatant and manifest denial of the Gospel.
  • 9:41 - 9:46
Romans 3:20 "For by works of the law,
  • 9:46 - 9:50
no human being will be justified in His sight."
  • 9:50 - 9:55
No, Mr. McConckie, it is not
  • 9:55 - 9:58
'it becomes operative in the life of an individual
  • 9:58 - 10:03
    on conditions of personal righteousness.'
  • 10:03 - 10:08
The justification that we have from Jesus Christ
  • 10:08 - 10:12
    becomes operative by faith.
  • 10:12 - 10:17
By faith, Abraham was declared righteous.
  • 10:17 - 10:20
    By faith.
  • 10:20 - 10:27
    Yes, faith will produce works,
  • 10:27 - 10:30
but the works do not merit our salvation.
  • 10:30 - 10:37
By works of the law, no human being will be justified in His sight.
  • 10:37 - 10:40
Or Titus 3:5, He saved us,
  • 10:40 - 10:45
not because of works done by us in righteousness,
  • 10:45 - 10:47
but according to His own mercy,
  • 10:47 - 10:51
by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.
  • 10:51 - 10:58
What I would say to this man James, is this:
  • 10:58 - 11:08
Jesus Christ calls us to full,
  • 11:08 - 11:14
    undiluted devotion to Him.
  • 11:14 - 11:17
Luke 14:26, "If anyone comes to me and
  • 11:17 - 11:20
does not hate his own father, and mother,
  • 11:20 - 11:23
and wife, and children, and brothers,
  • 11:23 - 11:25
and sisters, yes, and even his own life,
  • 11:25 - 11:27
    he cannot be my disciple."
  • 11:27 - 11:30
I would say to this man James:
  • 11:30 - 11:34
if you're seeking to stay in Mormonism, in a false religion,
  • 11:34 - 11:37
in a religion that God tells you to come out of,
  • 11:37 - 11:41
in a religion that the Apostle Paul cursed,
  • 11:41 - 11:43
if you are determined to stay there
  • 11:43 - 11:45
and it has to do with a greater affection
  • 11:45 - 11:48
for any family relationship than what you have for Christ
  • 11:48 - 11:54
He says, Christ Himself says, you cannot be His disciple.
  • 11:54 - 11:56
Whoever does not bear his own cross
  • 11:56 - 11:59
and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
  • 11:59 - 12:03
Luke 14:33, "so therefore any one of you
  • 12:03 - 12:07
who does not renounce all that he has
  • 12:07 - 12:11
    cannot be My disciple."
  • 12:11 - 12:16
So we would call James and anybody else in that situation...
  • 12:16 - 12:23
    Catholicism has a cursed message,
  • 12:23 - 12:27
    Islam is a damnable religion,
  • 12:27 - 12:32
Jehovah's Witnesses deny the deity of Christ,
  • 12:32 - 12:37
all these religions deny that Jesus Christ
  • 12:37 - 12:41
in a perfect life, in a perfect obedience,
  • 12:41 - 12:44
    according to Philippians 2,
  • 12:44 - 12:48
He took that obedience all the way to becoming a man,
  • 12:48 - 12:52
perfectly, coming and submitting to His Father,
  • 12:52 - 12:55
taking that obedience all the way to death,
  • 12:55 - 12:58
    even death on a cross,
  • 12:58 - 13:02
Jesus Christ, through tears, He learned obedience,
  • 13:02 - 13:06
    He suffered before His Father,
  • 13:06 - 13:10
    He earned a righteousness whereby
  • 13:10 - 13:12
    the righteousness of God,
  • 13:12 - 13:16
the righteousness God demands of us was earned,
  • 13:16 - 13:20
it was merited by Christ Himself.
  • 13:20 - 13:26
    To John the Baptist,
  • 13:26 - 13:28
    He says, "John, baptize Me."
  • 13:28 - 13:30
John says, "Lord, I need to be baptized of You.
  • 13:30 - 13:32
You come here to be baptized by me?"
  • 13:32 - 13:36
And He said that all righteousness might be fulfilled,
  • 13:36 - 13:42
Jesus Christ had to walk through life and do what we do,
  • 13:42 - 13:44
be involved in what we're involved with,
  • 13:44 - 13:47
and do it in absolute perfection,
  • 13:47 - 13:50
    and fulfill all righteousness
  • 13:50 - 13:53
so that the law might be satisfied perfectly,
  • 13:53 - 13:57
and in so doing, He takes all of that obedience,
  • 13:57 - 14:00
all the way to obeying His Father,
  • 14:00 - 14:04
and going to give His life
  • 14:04 - 14:07
as a ransom for many on Calvary's cross,
  • 14:07 - 14:09
so that He could come to that very point
  • 14:09 - 14:11
    where He breathed His last,
  • 14:11 - 14:14
and just giving up the spirit,
  • 14:14 - 14:18
He says, "It is finished," and it's done.
  • 14:18 - 14:21
    He has accomplished salvation.
  • 14:21 - 14:25
He was stricken, He was smitten, He was afflicted of God,
  • 14:25 - 14:29
He was crushed by almighty wrath on that cross,
  • 14:29 - 14:36
so that in the end of it, it is finished.
  • 14:36 - 14:47
And now, the most vile sinner, much like Luke 19,
  • 14:47 - 14:55
the tax collector beating on his breast,
  • 14:55 - 15:01
    no works to offer God.
  • 15:01 - 15:04
Christ sets him off against the Pharisee,
  • 15:04 - 15:07
who was boasting - he fasts, he gives,
  • 15:07 - 15:12
    he does, he works, he puts forth an effort;
  • 15:12 - 15:15
this man beat on his breast,
  • 15:15 - 15:18
wouldn't even raise his head, he simply said,
  • 15:18 - 15:21
"God, be merciful to me, a sinner."
  • 15:21 - 15:24
Jesus did not say He went out
  • 15:24 - 15:27
    and did all these works
  • 15:27 - 15:30
    to make justification possible.
  • 15:30 - 15:33
    He specifically said this man
  • 15:33 - 15:36
had no works to offer God,
  • 15:36 - 15:38
    totally contrary to the Pharisee,
  • 15:38 - 15:41
who is offering God all sorts of good works,
  • 15:41 - 15:46
and Jesus says, make no qualms about it,
  • 15:46 - 15:57
Jesus says, "This man went home justified, and not the other."
  • 15:57 - 16:02
    Be certain of that.
  • 16:02 - 16:06
    This Mormon is a liar.
  • 16:06 - 16:10
These Mormons I quoted, they are liars.
  • 16:10 - 16:16
You cannot be justified the way they say.
  • 16:16 - 16:21
    They're liars.
  • 16:21 - 16:28
Paul was very specific in Romans 4,
  • 16:28 - 16:37
it was not works, it was not works...
  • 16:37 - 16:41
Abraham had no place to boast in works.
  • 16:41 - 16:44
    And if anybody doubts that,
  • 16:44 - 16:53
you not only have Luke 19, you have Romans 4:5,
  • 16:53 - 16:55
    and it is unmistakable.
  • 16:55 - 17:00
    Who does God justify?
  • 17:00 - 17:07
    He who justifies the ungodly.
  • 17:07 - 17:11
It doesn't say He justifies those who
  • 17:11 - 17:15
work and obey and keep laws.
  • 17:15 - 17:22
It says He justifies the ungodly.
  • 17:22 - 17:24
    These Mormons are liars.
  • 17:24 - 17:25
    It is a corrupt system.
  • 17:25 - 17:27
    It is a damning system.
  • 17:27 - 17:30
And if you are a follower of Jesus Christ,
  • 17:30 - 17:34
    God calls you, "Come out."
  • 17:34 - 17:37
So no, you do not want to stay.
  • 17:37 - 17:40
It is a haunt of demons.
  • 17:40 - 17:48
A man cannot be saved unless the most basic aspects
  • 17:48 - 17:51
    of the Gospel are understood.
  • 17:51 - 17:56
You see, we're called to believe something.
  • 17:56 - 18:02
There are very concrete propositions, or truths,
  • 18:02 - 18:06
that are presented in the basic Christian message
  • 18:06 - 18:09
that must be adhered to, they must be believed,
  • 18:09 - 18:11
they must be laid hold on.
  • 18:11 - 18:15
You clearly see that in 1 Corinthians 15, do you not?
  • 18:15 - 18:22
Paul is laying down very basic tenets of the Gospel,
  • 18:22 - 18:30
and the thing is, false religions are not a little hazy
  • 18:30 - 18:33
    in some obscure doctrine.
  • 18:33 - 18:36
    False religions attack the foundations;
  • 18:36 - 18:40
they attack the very core message.
  • 18:40 - 18:42
That's what Paul's dealing with in Galatians 1:8,
  • 18:42 - 18:45
if somebody, even an angel from heaven,
  • 18:45 - 18:48
it doesn't matter who it is, if they come to you
  • 18:48 - 18:51
preaching another gospel than what we have preached,
  • 18:51 - 18:53
    let them be accursed.
  • 18:53 - 18:57
And the thing is, the Gospel at its very root
  • 18:57 - 19:01
has to do to with Christ, His person,
  • 19:01 - 19:04
    His character, who He is,
  • 19:04 - 19:08
and what He accomplished, in His life, on the cross,
  • 19:08 - 19:10
    in His death.
  • 19:10 - 19:12
If a man does not have
  • 19:12 - 19:18
a basic understanding of that, he cannot be saved.
  • 19:18 - 19:21
There needs to be a basic comprehension of that.
  • 19:21 - 19:26
And the thing is these false religions attack on that level.
  • 19:26 - 19:27
Like I say it's not some obscure teaching
  • 19:27 - 19:30
about eschatology where they go wrong,
  • 19:30 - 19:34
they attack the very central message
  • 19:34 - 19:38
in a way that their message is damning.
  • 19:38 - 19:40
    This is night and day,
  • 19:40 - 19:42
    this is dark and light,
  • 19:42 - 19:45
this is the difference between life and death.
  • 19:45 - 19:48
    This is truth and error.
  • 19:48 - 19:50
This is of God and of the devil.
  • 19:50 - 19:55
This is where the Spirit operates versus the haunt of demons.
  • 19:55 - 19:58
    We're not talking some vague, small thing;
  • 19:58 - 20:02
we're talking about very foundational matters.
  • 20:02 - 20:06
Now look, I know there have been times in history
  • 20:06 - 20:10
where there have been certain individuals
  • 20:10 - 20:19
that stayed in the Catholic church
  • 20:19 - 20:25
or they stayed in the Anglican church,
  • 20:25 - 20:28
and they held to the truth.
  • 20:28 - 20:35
Typically people who did that, Savrinola, they burned him.
  • 20:35 - 20:40
I mean, typically, the people that tried to hold on
  • 20:40 - 20:43
in the midst of those kinds of situations
  • 20:43 - 20:45
    suffered great persecution;
  • 20:45 - 20:49
they were put to death, they were ostracized, you name it.
  • 20:49 - 20:52
Even the evangelicals that stayed in the Anglican church,
  • 20:52 - 20:54
they tended to be a minority,
  • 20:54 - 20:57
    rocks were thrown at them,
  • 20:57 - 21:08
probably literally and not so literally.
  • 21:08 - 21:14
I guess the point is what we find here is
  • 21:14 - 21:19
God is calling His people out of false religion,
  • 21:19 - 21:21
and I really believe that if you study Babylon,
  • 21:21 - 21:23
    if you study that harlot...
  • 21:23 - 21:26
A lot of our forefathers have thought
  • 21:26 - 21:30
it spoke of Catholicism and the priests.
  • 21:30 - 21:35
I would say Catholicism is just one among many antichrists
  • 21:35 - 21:38
that are representative of false religion.
  • 21:38 - 21:43
There was a day when the Pope and Catholicism
  • 21:43 - 21:46
seemed to be the main enemy.
  • 21:46 - 21:50
Today we might look at it and say Islam may be,
  • 21:50 - 21:54
although if you talk to Ryan,
  • 21:54 - 21:58
    he probably still sees Catholicism...
  • 21:58 - 22:01
I think what we basically see is this:
  • 22:01 - 22:03
    If you're in Romania, it's Eastern Orthodox;
  • 22:03 - 22:06
if you're in Russia, it's Eastern Orthodox,
  • 22:06 - 22:10
if you're in Tibet, it's Buddhism,
  • 22:10 - 22:13
if you're in India, it's Hinduism,
  • 22:13 - 22:18
Basically what you have is a picture of false religion,
  • 22:18 - 22:22
and God is calling His people out.
  • 22:22 - 22:26
    And the truth is,
  • 22:26 - 22:30
that if somebody is in one of those systems
  • 22:30 - 22:34
and they simply do not have the ability to see the difference
  • 22:34 - 22:36
    between the true Gospel
  • 22:36 - 22:39
and that which is a corrupt perversion,
  • 22:39 - 22:44
then there is probably a very great likelihood they're not converted,
  • 22:44 - 22:47
because one of the things we find that happens
  • 22:47 - 22:52
is that the Spirit of God opens men's eyes.
  • 22:52 - 22:56
They're no longer blind. They now have the ability to see.
  • 22:56 - 22:58
    The Scriptures come alive.
  • 22:58 - 23:00
    We actually find various Scriptures
  • 23:00 - 23:02
    scattered through the New Testament
  • 23:02 - 23:08
that show us that we're taught of God.
  • 23:08 - 23:10
The problem is that if it's difficult for people
  • 23:10 - 23:13
to give up their old beliefs,
  • 23:13 - 23:16
it's because they have not come to a new belief.
  • 23:16 - 23:19
Because that's exactly what faith is:
  • 23:19 - 23:26
Faith is beholding in Christ the answer to my sin
  • 23:26 - 23:29
that I never found in anything else,
  • 23:29 - 23:33
the answer to my eternal glory, to my joy,
  • 23:33 - 23:37
to what is seen in Christ as something precious
  • 23:37 - 23:40
that I never found in anything else.
  • 23:40 - 23:43
What you're saying is no different than saying
  • 23:43 - 23:47
a guy given to pornography for his whole life
  • 23:47 - 23:50
it's very difficult for him to give up
  • 23:50 - 23:53
what he loved so much for all those years.
  • 23:53 - 23:55
    It's the same thing.
  • 23:55 - 23:57
    When Jesus Christ comes along,
  • 23:57 - 23:59
what in the world do we think salvation is?
  • 23:59 - 24:04
Salvation is being saved from those things.
  • 24:04 - 24:07
It's being saved from the power of sin.
  • 24:07 - 24:10
It says it very clearly in Romans 6,
  • 24:10 - 24:13
sin shall not have dominion over you.
  • 24:13 - 24:24
Jesus Christ comes along to save people to the uttermost.
  • 24:24 - 24:30
Not to leave them lingering, hovering over these things
  • 24:30 - 24:34
and going on with their spiritual adultery and fornication,
  • 24:34 - 24:37
that's why He says come out from among them.
  • 24:37 - 24:41
Come out from among all that whoredom,
  • 24:41 - 24:47
and that adultery and fornication in a spiritual sense, come out.
  • 24:47 - 24:53
Do you realize what's happening when the church of LDS meets?
  • 24:53 - 24:59
It's a room full of whores committing spiritual idolatry.
  • 24:59 - 25:07
When a Catholic church gets together, it is whoredom.
  • 25:07 - 25:11
    It is spiritual adultery.
  • 25:11 - 25:17
People committing lewd acts of spiritual abomination.
  • 25:17 - 25:19
    That's what it is.
  • 25:19 - 25:23
When people put their affection and attention
  • 25:23 - 25:26
on writings other than the Scriptures,
  • 25:26 - 25:29
    saviors other than Christ,
  • 25:29 - 25:31
gods who are not the God of the Bible,
  • 25:31 - 25:34
the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
  • 25:34 - 25:40
when they turn and lay their trust and lay their hope,
  • 25:40 - 25:44
you just read what God says about the Jews
  • 25:44 - 25:48
    when they worshiped other gods,
  • 25:48 - 25:50
    up under every green tree;
  • 25:50 - 25:54
He uses language that is graphic,
  • 25:54 - 25:57
because that's how it is to Him.
  • 25:57 - 26:01
It's like a married woman going out
  • 26:01 - 26:04
and finding another man not her husband
  • 26:04 - 26:08
and committing all sorts of lewd acts
  • 26:08 - 26:14
and indescribable sexual abominations and perversions
  • 26:14 - 26:19
    selling herself cheap, giving herself,
  • 26:19 - 26:24
and I'm not even coming up to Biblical descriptions
  • 26:24 - 26:35
(response from the room - inaudible)
  • 26:35 - 26:37
Yes, there's idolatry of all sorts.
  • 26:37 - 26:43
But the fact is, false religion is the devil's playground,
  • 26:43 - 26:49
and God calls us to come out from among it.
  • 26:49 - 26:51
But the thing is, false religion can be like Islam,
  • 26:51 - 26:54
or it can be like Joel Osteen.
  • 26:54 - 26:56
It can be the faith movement,
  • 26:56 - 27:00
health, wealth and prosperity, or it can be the Amish.
  • 27:00 - 27:03
I mean, it's got every look under the sun.
  • 27:03 - 27:05
The Wilkenson's were just telling us Sunday
  • 27:05 - 27:08
    about the people who dress in grey;
  • 27:08 - 27:12
it can look like that or it can look like Benny Hinn.
  • 27:12 - 27:18
    It's everything in between.
  • 27:18 - 27:26
    Anyway, that's it for tonight.
