Flood Your Mind With Thoughts of Christ - Tim Conway

  • 0:06 - 0:10
Brethren, the battle is in the mind,
  • 0:10 - 0:15
our thoughts have to be subject to Christ.
  • 0:15 - 0:18
Our thoughts have to be permeated by the Word of God.(P)
  • 0:18 - 0:21
Brethren, you know what Paul has been doing?
  • 0:21 - 0:23
    Think with me!
  • 0:23 - 0:26
He's been holding up the Gentile!
  • 0:26 - 0:29
To your thinking, to your analysis,
  • 0:29 - 0:33
he put's it before your thoughts
  • 0:33 - 0:35
so that you can analyze this
  • 0:35 - 0:42
and you can look at it and you can say, "Okay, yes, the Gentile is futile."
  • 0:42 - 0:45
    And then you hear a message like was preached several weeks ago on the futility of the mind;
  • 0:45 - 0:46
and you begin to look at,
  • 0:46 - 0:49
"Wow, we were like that! We were futile.
  • 0:49 - 0:51
Everything we gave our life to, it was utter futility!"
  • 0:51 - 0:53
And so we begin to think that way.
  • 0:53 - 0:56
Anytime there is this temptation to go back to the world,
  • 0:56 - 1:00
go back to the temptations of all this stuff that ensnares,
  • 1:00 - 1:04
we can think, we can think logically.
  • 1:04 - 1:07
We can wake up in the morning and think,
  • 1:07 - 1:08
"I don't want to waste my life.
  • 1:08 - 1:10
I need to put on the new man."
  • 1:10 - 1:14
You see brethren, we begin to think.
  • 1:14 - 1:16
This is where the battle is won.(P)
  • 1:16 - 1:20
I can guarantee if there are any of you that are claiming to be Christians,
  • 1:20 - 1:21
and you are floundering around in life,
  • 1:21 - 1:24
    you are not thinking right.
  • 1:24 - 1:26
    You haven't learned Christ right;
  • 1:26 - 1:28
    you have not thought about Christ right;
  • 1:28 - 1:30
you have not learned Him right.
  • 1:30 - 1:32
    Something is defective.(P)
  • 1:32 - 1:36
    Brethren, when you are filling your mind with the Word of God all the time;
  • 1:36 - 1:39
Thy Word is truth, brethren, we will be sanctified by that truth.
  • 1:39 - 1:43
Because that truth permeates the mind,
  • 1:43 - 1:46
it effects the way we think.
  • 1:46 - 1:51
Look, that truth comes in, and it sets us free because it starts to grip us.
  • 1:51 - 1:53
    And it constrains us,
  • 1:53 - 1:58
and it drives us in directions that are right, and that God approves of.
  • 1:58 - 1:59
    Brethren, this is it.
  • 1:59 - 2:01
This is how you put the old off,
  • 2:01 - 2:04
you stop thinking like you used to think.(P)
  • 2:04 - 2:07
Actually, how is the old man driven?
  • 2:07 - 2:09
    By corrupt desires;
  • 2:09 - 2:13
and rather than being driven by corrupt desires, you begin to be driven by truth.
  • 2:13 - 2:15
By a mind that really thinks.
  • 2:15 - 2:17
by a mind that sees things straight.(P)
  • 2:17 - 2:19
    Brethren, when you begin to size up the fact;
  • 2:19 - 2:23
    we talked about this before.
  • 2:23 - 2:27
    Brethren, there's a way people live;
  • 2:27 - 2:30
when they begin to realize, "Wow, my life is short.
  • 2:30 - 2:33
I only get one shot at this and everything I do here matters.
  • 2:33 - 2:36
And I am going to stand before Christ one day and be judged for it."
  • 2:36 - 2:39
You start letting that truth control you day in and day out.
  • 2:39 - 2:43
One of the things was brethren, when we were lost, we tried NOT to think about that!
  • 2:43 - 2:45
We tried not to think about death!
  • 2:45 - 2:47
We tried not to think about judgment!
  • 2:47 - 2:50
We tried not to think about the consequences of sin.
  • 2:50 - 2:52
We tried not to think about hell.
  • 2:52 - 2:54
We didn't want to think about it.
  • 2:54 - 2:57
Brethren, our minds have been enlightened now.
  • 2:57 - 3:00
We can take truth and we can think,
  • 3:00 - 3:05
"Wow, you know what, I never found that sin was ultimately gratifying when I was lost.
  • 3:05 - 3:10
I never found that it ultimately accomplished and gave me what it promised to give me.
  • 3:10 - 3:14
I never found that it really produced happiness in my life."
  • 3:14 - 3:15
What are you going to do now?
  • 3:15 - 3:16
Are you going to stop thinking that?
  • 3:16 - 3:19
Are you going to stop thinking about the futility?
  • 3:19 - 3:21
You see Paul is laying this out so that you can examine this,
  • 3:21 - 3:24
and you can say, "Yes, that's exactly how my life was!
  • 3:24 - 3:28
It was greedy with all its sensuality, and I was hard and I was calloused,
  • 3:28 - 3:33
and I was alienated from the life of God, and yes, I see it's all true!"
  • 3:33 - 3:35
    And now you start thinking,
  • 3:35 - 3:36
    "Well, wait a second.
  • 3:36 - 3:38
    Jesus came into this world,
  • 3:38 - 3:41
and they called His name Jesus because He was going to save me from my sins."
  • 3:41 - 3:42
    And you start thinking,
  • 3:42 - 3:45
He came into this world to deliver me from this present evil age.
  • 3:45 - 3:47
    And you start thinking,
  • 3:47 - 3:51
there is an immeasurable greatness of power in me!
  • 3:51 - 3:53
    And you start thinking,
  • 3:53 - 3:54
    and you know what,
  • 3:54 - 3:58
if I don't have holiness in my life, I read somewhere in 2 Timothy,
  • 3:58 - 4:00
that I am not a fit vessel for the Master's use.
  • 4:00 - 4:02
And so if I really want my life to be profitable,
  • 4:02 - 4:04
there needs to be holiness here.
  • 4:04 - 4:06
    I need to be striving.
  • 4:06 - 4:08
    You begin thinking.(p)
  • 4:08 - 4:13
You know, the apostle John puts it this way:
  • 4:13 - 4:16
We don't know what we are going to be,
  • 4:16 - 4:17
    but we know this,
  • 4:17 - 4:22
we know that when we see Him we are going to be as He is.
  • 4:22 - 4:26
And he says that everybody that has this hope purifies himself.
  • 4:26 - 4:29
Well now, what is the logic of that?
  • 4:29 - 4:30
    Well, the logic is this.
  • 4:30 - 4:38
    Look, if I believe that He saved me to present me holy and blameness before Him;
  • 4:38 - 4:43
if I believe that He came into this world to break the power of sin in my life,
  • 4:43 - 4:46
    and to free me up to be zealous of good works;
  • 4:46 - 4:50
    if I believe that there is a day that I am going to have to stand before Him and give an account;
  • 4:50 - 4:54
    if I believe that He is the very image of beauty;
  • 4:54 - 4:59
    if I believe that the very pathway to usefulness in this life;
  • 4:59 - 5:01
and I am thinking this all the time.
  • 5:01 - 5:04
I am thinking! I am thinking!
  • 5:04 - 5:07
    We have to think, think.(P)
  • 5:07 - 5:13
Brethren, think about what happens in the mind of someone who learns Christ,
  • 5:13 - 5:14
    who hears Christ,
  • 5:14 - 5:16
    who is taught of Christ,
  • 5:17 - 5:19
    what happens?
  • 5:19 - 5:23
    Well, he looks, he contemplates.
  • 5:23 - 5:29
He thinks, he thinks about what he has learned and he says,
  • 5:29 - 5:33
    "This is really important.
  • 5:33 - 5:35
This is the most important thing I have ever heard, this is everything!
  • 5:35 - 5:37
    This is truth."
  • 5:37 - 5:41
Not just, yes, there are other things in this world that are true, but this is THE truth.
  • 5:41 - 5:45
I have found something that is the truth.
  • 5:45 - 5:50
I have found something that is beyond every other thing to be found.
  • 5:50 - 5:52
I'll let everything else go rather than to let this go.
  • 5:52 - 5:56
I'll sacrifice everything as long as I can have this One I have learned about.
  • 5:56 - 6:00
The message of Christ, it begins to grip him, it holds him, it captures him.
  • 6:00 - 6:02
    It permeates his thinking.(P)
  • 6:02 - 6:06
Brethren, when you wake up in the morning and you think about how precious Christ is,
  • 6:06 - 6:07
when you think about how beautiful He is,
  • 6:07 - 6:10
when you think about how, "I want to draw close to Him.
  • 6:10 - 6:12
I want Him to speak to me today.
  • 6:12 - 6:16
I want to know of His presence manifestly in my life,
  • 6:16 - 6:19
I want to feel it, I want to know the joy of it.
  • 6:19 - 6:21
I want to know the burning of it."
  • 6:21 - 6:26
But I realize this, there are things that I can do in my life that can hinder that,
  • 6:26 - 6:29
    that can grieve the Spirit.
  • 6:29 - 6:32
You see you are thinking, "I don't want that to happen.
  • 6:32 - 6:34
I am going to seek to live pure."
  • 6:34 - 6:38
And all the time we are being driven from the inside.
  • 6:38 - 6:42
We are being driven by truth in the inner being.
  • 6:42 - 6:45
We are being driven by the way we think.
  • 6:45 - 6:48
Brethren, this is the heart of the matter.
  • 6:48 - 6:49
    This is it.
  • 6:49 - 6:55
This is why the Scriptures are so absolutely critical to your life.
  • 6:55 - 6:58
Brethren, I'll tell you this too.
  • 6:58 - 7:04
If it is the image of God after the likeness of God that we have been created,
  • 7:04 - 7:05
    if this is true,
  • 7:05 - 7:07
you wake up and you realize,
  • 7:07 - 7:09
God saved me, I am a child of God.
  • 7:09 - 7:13
He begats me and puts His image in me.
  • 7:13 - 7:15
Can you even imagine what Peter said?
  • 7:15 - 7:19
We are possessors of the divine nature.
  • 7:19 - 7:22
That is one of the most staggering,
  • 7:22 - 7:25
    that is staggering!
  • 7:25 - 7:31
We are possessor of the divine nature?!(P)
  • 7:31 - 7:34
    Brethren, one of the things we need to permeate our thinking with;
  • 7:34 - 7:38
    if indeed God Himself,
  • 7:38 - 7:43
if God-likeness, God's image burned into me,
  • 7:43 - 7:46
and flowing out in holiness and righteousness,
  • 7:46 - 7:49
if that is really what the new man is about,
  • 7:49 - 7:52
then brethren, I need to be controlled by truth like that.
  • 7:52 - 7:53
I need to come to the Word of God
  • 7:53 - 7:56
and I need to see God in all of His righteousness,
  • 7:56 - 7:58
and I need to see God in all of His holiness.
  • 7:58 - 8:00
    I need to see it.
  • 8:00 - 8:05
God is holy, holy, holy, the whole earth is full of His glory.(P)
  • 8:05 - 8:10
Brethren, that will not capture your soul if you are not in this Book.
  • 8:10 - 8:13
And I mean prayerfully, and that makes a difference.
  • 8:13 - 8:16
You are in the Word, and you are praying it in.
  • 8:16 - 8:20
God, show me, God teach me, show me Yourself.
  • 8:20 - 8:24
    You begin to let that fear of God rush in and grab hold of you;
  • 8:24 - 8:27
and God in all of His glory, and you see His holiness.(P)
  • 8:27 - 8:30
Brethren, holiness, I'll tell you this.
  • 8:30 - 8:34
The theologians, try to explain it,
  • 8:34 - 8:37
    God being holy,
  • 8:37 - 8:42
there no doubt it contains a reality of purity,
  • 8:42 - 8:46
    of being separate,
  • 8:46 - 8:50
but you know, everybody struggles with it.
  • 8:50 - 8:54
And I think the closest way you come to understanding what holiness means,
  • 8:54 - 8:58
is simply to look at God.
  • 8:58 - 9:03
It is to take His revealed Word and it is to find out,
  • 9:03 - 9:08
and I'll tell you the holiness of God shines probably as brightly as anywhere,
  • 9:08 - 9:10
    right there at the Cross.
  • 9:10 - 9:11
I mean what in the world?
  • 9:11 - 9:18
It took God Himself to suffer under the indignation of God Himself.
  • 9:18 - 9:22
    God suffering under God.
  • 9:22 - 9:27
The holiness of God in absolute utter hatred.
  • 9:27 - 9:29
    He is of pure eyes,
  • 9:29 - 9:30
    than to behold sin,
  • 9:30 - 9:31
    and He cannot behold it,
  • 9:31 - 9:33
    and it must be punished,
  • 9:33 - 9:38
and He will crush with His damning power where that is!
  • 9:38 - 9:40
    And Christ becomes sin.(P)
  • 9:40 - 9:44
I'll tell you first and foremost the Cross is not about us.
  • 9:44 - 9:46
It is about God's holy name.
  • 9:46 - 9:49
It is about God vindicating His own self!
  • 9:49 - 9:53
Brethren, we begin to see that, and it jumps out at us,
  • 9:53 - 9:57
    and we see.
  • 9:57 - 9:59
    And how righteous He is;
  • 9:59 - 10:02
    how absolutely perfect,
  • 10:02 - 10:05
how everything about God is upright,
  • 10:05 - 10:07
    through and through.
  • 10:07 - 10:13
Everything He does is pristine perfection of righteousness.(P)
  • 10:13 - 10:17
    And brethren,
  • 10:17 - 10:24
I wish I could just squeeze all of that out of here right now,
  • 10:24 - 10:26
but that is not the way it happens.
  • 10:26 - 10:32
It comes by a lifetime of being in this Word all the time,
  • 10:32 - 10:36
and studying, and meditating, and coming away,
  • 10:36 - 10:40
where brethren, if you come away from this Book,
  • 10:40 - 10:43
and you are not somehow swayed,
  • 10:43 - 10:44
    impacted,
  • 10:44 - 10:45
    influenced,
  • 10:45 - 10:47
or moved by the truth of it,
  • 10:47 - 10:50
you are not reading it right.(P)
  • 10:51 - 10:55
Brethren, if you are neglecting this book, there is simply no excuse.
  • 10:55 - 10:57
And I mean, pray it in brethren.
  • 10:57 - 11:00
It makes a big difference when you pray,
  • 11:00 - 11:01
    when you seek God.
  • 11:01 - 11:05
Many times we have not because we ask not.
  • 11:05 - 11:07
One of the things, come to this Book and just plead.
  • 11:07 - 11:11
    Remember, remember brethren, remember!
  • 11:11 - 11:14
What I emphasized to you about Paul's prayer,
  • 11:14 - 11:17
    There back in chapter 1,
  • 11:17 - 11:21
praying that we might have a revelation of Him,
  • 11:21 - 11:23
we need a revelation of God,
  • 11:23 - 11:27
we need a revelation of His truth to our soul.
