-
0:00 - 0:03From the 13th to the 17th of November
-
0:03 - 0:06thirteen Congolese organisations
-
0:06 - 0:10gathered through Women's initiatives for Gender Justice
-
0:10 - 0:13Eastern RDC, took part to the International
-
0:13 - 0:16Women March in Bukavu. They do expess through
-
0:16 - 0:18this video, their call for action, against gender violences
-
0:18 - 0:21Claudine Bela - CERDF Coordinator- Kisangani
-
0:21 - 0:25Eastern province representative
-
0:25 - 0:29We're coming here, from North and South Kivu,
-
0:29 - 0:34North Katanga districts, in the Eastern province,
-
0:34 - 0:40in order to exchange with our worldwide colleagues,
-
0:40 - 0:45about problems faced by women around four main
-
0:45 - 0:51themes: peace, demilitarization, common wealth
-
0:51 - 0:54and violences.
-
0:54 - 0:58Each day, sexual violence cases are registred
-
0:58 - 1:03in the four main districts of the Eastern province:
-
1:03 - 1:09High Zuele, Low zuele, Itouri and Chopo. Women and
-
1:09 - 1:14young maids are daily victims of rapes.
-
1:14 - 1:18An atmosphear of insecurity spreads, due to
-
1:18 - 1:23LRA activists, Ougandan rebel armed groups,
-
1:23 - 1:28which has settled in Congolese Low and High Zuele.
-
1:28 - 1:33Those groups are responsible for many atrocities,
-
1:33 - 1:38and of a displacement of population at a large scale.
-
1:38 - 1:43People have been obliged to flee to others towns
-
1:43 - 1:48so that it has became highly difficult for us,
-
1:48 - 1:54to be able to take care of victims of sexual violences.
-
1:54 - 2:02They remain where they are, without any relief.
-
2:02 - 2:08It is what we're actually facing.
-
2:08 - 2:11Several others groups has settled in the
-
2:11 - 2:15Eastern province: The Maï Maï, Anitouri armed
-
2:15 - 2:21groups, and the ADF Nalou located in North Kivu.
-
2:21 - 2:28Each case of violence registred there, proves
-
2:28 - 2:32that insecurity is such, that it is impossible
-
2:32 - 2:38to moove safely and freely, through the province,
-
2:38 - 2:43without meeting those bandits. We have denouced
-
2:43 - 2:47those facts frequently, but no real solution
-
2:47 - 2:51has been found.
-
2:51 - 2:55Our victims are suffering, those having fistulas
-
2:55 - 2:59can't be helped, due to the scarceness of means
-
2:59 - 3:03which doesn't allow us to take care of evryone.
-
3:03 - 3:06Most of the ONG working here, are closing,
-
3:06 - 3:10we don't know what will became of those victims.
-
3:10 - 3:14We have to face another kind of problem
-
3:14 - 3:18at a judiciary level. Trials are organised,
-
3:18 - 3:22judgements passed, and then nothing occures.
-
3:22 - 3:26Consequently, victims remain exposed to possible
-
3:26 - 3:32exactions from their previous agressor.
-
3:32 - 3:37This is why we came here and are taking part
-
3:37 - 3:41to the International Women March,
-
3:41 - 3:45aiming at witnessing of what occures
-
3:45 - 3:48in the Congolese Eastern province.
-
3:48 - 3:51which is actually totaly forgotten in both
-
3:51 - 3:55national and international speeches, while
-
3:55 - 3:59others provinces are taken into account.
-
3:59 - 4:03It is as if those denouncing LRA's activities
-
4:03 - 4:05should be silenced, and the northern province
-
4:05 - 4:08weren't peopled by Congolese. This, shocks
-
4:08 - 4:11and offends us. That's the reason why we came here
-
4:11 - 4:14in order to be heard by all those having the
-
4:14 - 4:18willingness to help the eastern province,
-
4:18 - 4:21and so that they'll be able to witness
-
4:21 - 4:24of what happens here.
-
4:24 - 4:27We want that justice should be done;
-
4:27 - 4:30All those having commited violences will have
-
4:30 - 4:33to be prosecuted, and have to respond charges
-
4:33 - 4:36in front of competent juridiction,
-
4:36 - 4:40should it be nationonal or international.
-
4:40 - 4:44Emerite Tabisha Mongelwa - AFD Coordinator
-
4:44 - 4:48Uvira-Fizi /South Kivu province representative
-
4:48 - 4:51We noticed that each time an international event
-
4:51 - 4:55takes place in the country, showing external
-
4:55 - 4:59implication, it has a great impact.
-
4:59 - 5:03An international presence in our province,
-
5:03 - 5:06will move our leaders and those ruled by them,
-
5:06 - 5:09and will be positive for the women cause, here.
-
5:09 - 5:12All the most, law exists, but isn't applied.
-
5:12 - 5:17Chantal Malumbi Faila - SOFEDI coordinator
-
5:17 - 5:20Kalemie /Katanga province representative
-
5:20 - 5:24since last year, upon 194 cases being held to justice
-
5:24 - 5:31only 44 gave way to a jugement, but none victim
-
5:31 - 5:38has recovered damages, since liables can afford
-
5:38 - 5:45to corrupt those who should arrest them.
-
5:45 - 5:52They are wandering freely and aren't worried.
-
5:52 - 5:58That's why we're obliged to settle victims
-
5:58 - 6:02especially those rejected,
-
6:02 - 6:08in families welcoming them. But those families are
-
6:08 - 6:13living in poverty and are hardly able to feed victims.
-
6:13 - 6:19The main problem is then from economical order, and
-
6:19 - 6:27have to be solved through victims'economical rehabilitation.
-
6:27 - 6:34by mean of a salary gotten, enabling them to
-
6:34 - 6:41get out of poverty, while we're helping them
-
6:41 - 6:48on their way back to recover joy and dignity.
-
6:48 - 6:57It's very difficult actually.
-
6:57 - 7:04In order to fight impunity, we need to be backed,
-
7:04 - 7:09so that we could hire lawyers services, pay
-
7:09 - 7:18justice charges and reduce procedure delays.
-
7:18 - 7:25Damages have to be recovered.
-
7:25 - 7:31
-
7:31 - 7:36We are facing two kinds of problems:
-
7:36 - 7:42The victim's economical support,
-
7:42 - 7:48and at judiciary level, the sentence of liables.
-
7:48 - 7:53
-
7:53 - 8:00As far as I'm concerned, it is with great hopes that
-
8:00 - 8:07I do take part to the march. We are meeting there
-
8:07 - 8:13many decision makers, sponsors, authorities
-
8:13 - 8:19at high level. We came in order to give voice to
-
8:19 - 8:24the women 's cause at an international level.
-
8:24 - 8:30This synergy will make it possible to solve problems
-
8:30 - 8:34We have to do it all together.
-
8:34 - 8:40We do hope that the march will have concrete
-
8:40 - 8:46positive results and will make women, sponsors
-
8:46 - 8:51as well as national authorities undergo the step
-
8:51 - 8:56from theory to action. All have to be implicated,
-
8:56 - 9:02in order that women's voice could be heard
-
9:02 - 9:05in order that justice should pevail and
-
9:05 - 9:08equality of chances should be real, and our action
-
9:08 - 9:12made visible through this march In Congo.
-
9:12 - 9:16Joséphine Mlimukono - LSC coordinator -
-
9:16 - 9:20Goma - North Kivu province representative
-
9:20 - 9:23We came here in Bukavu, aiming at exchanging
-
9:23 - 9:27and gain knowledge, about all actions undertaken
-
9:27 - 9:31worlwide, against violence.
-
9:31 - 9:37We haven't yet organised for our own part,
-
9:37 - 9:41any specific action, but our participation to the march
-
9:41 - 9:47will increase our knowledge, help us share
-
9:47 - 9:51others'worlwide experiences and actions
-
9:51 - 9:55and will enable us to make their strategies
-
9:55 - 10:02our own in order to fight poverty, here.
-
10:02 - 10:07in order that women take themselves in hand, and
-
10:07 - 10:12so that we could find efficient lasting strategies,
-
10:12 - 10:15to put an end to gender violences.
-
10:15 - 10:18The organisations making part of Women's Initiatives
-
10:18 - 10:20are asking :
-
10:20 - 10:22the instant cessation of gender violences
-
10:22 - 10:25that liables of violences should be judged
-
10:25 - 10:28That women make part of the decision-making proceedings
-
10:28 -This video has been made by Women's Initiatives organisations trained by witness, using video in human rights defence.
