EON UK is one of the UK's
leading energy suppliers
-
and the second largest
electricity generator in the country.
-
My er name is Helene Morisette,
I work for the energy company EON, er,
-
as a Corporate
Responsibility Executive,
-
so as a member of the
Corporate Responsibility Team.
-
What are the key features of your
corporate social responsibility program?
-
Er, we define six responsibilities er
that we have as an energy company,
-
er which provide the focus
of our CR program
-
and they find the approach of
how we do business really, er,
-
so those six responsibilities are:
create low carbon society, er,
-
reducing our
environmental impact, er,
-
act responsibly and being
a trusted energy partner, um,
-
also value our people and
the colleagues that work for EON, er,
-
ensure reliable um, energy, make sure
that it's there when people need it,
-
and finally but not least it's about
meet our customer needs,
-
so supporting
the vulnerable
-
but also helping customers
to use energy more efficiently,
-
and that's one of the reasons
we set up Challenge 100.
-
What exactly
is Challenge 100?
-
So Challenge 100
was about
-
eradicating fuel poverty for a hundred
families in a 100 days, um,
-
and to do that we delivered a wide
range of measures to the property,
-
for instance like loft insulation,
external wall insulation
-
to which we can see across
the street, er, new boilers,
-
er, but also energy efficiency advice
to influence the behaviors,
-
um and also er advise about
incomes and debt and tariff,
-
around energy tariff,
um, so within a 100 days
-
we were able to eradicate fuel
poverty for 42 of our 100 families.
-
But I think we learnt a lot even
where we weren't able to er,
-
eradicate
fuel poverty,
-
so at the end of the project
we published a report,
-
an external report, er,
in collaboration with all partners
-
that are involved
in the project as well,
-
to share the learnings with government
to influence policies, um to, you know,
-
competitors and other energy suppliers
that want to do similar projects
-
and also to third
party like, um,
-
charities that are involved
in fuel poverty issues,
-
really trying to have a lasting
effect on fuel poverty
-
that goes beyond
the 100 days.
-
How do you measure
the success of your CSR programs?
-
Well, success is really about the impact
we have, so if we take for example,
-
Challenge 100 er, we delivered
a lot of measures within a 100 days,
-
so like energy efficiency,
measure insulation, new boilers,
-
also advice to customers and...
and benefit entitlement checks,
-
which it's really trying to understand
the impact we have, er,
-
within those 100 days, so we looked at,
um, impact on their income,
-
impact on their energy bills,
on their energy consumption, er,
-
how much money they can save
at the end of the 100 days
-
through the different measures
that we delivered,
-
so success is really
about the impact we have.
-
What direction do you think
your CSR policy will take in the future?
-
Well, I think the energy issue
is going to remain topical so, er,
-
we're doing a lot of work
to get our customers' energy fit
-
or try to get them
to use less energy
-
and it's going to remain
in the coming years.
-
We, er, also created low carbon
partnership in different cities,
-
involving communities in terms
of that energy fit challenge, um,
-
so you know, energy is going
to remain topical and um,
-
I think
that's the way, um,
-
it's going to go forward and,
and in the future
-
it's really about keeping
the living cleaner and better energy.
