    Good afternoon
and thank you for the invitation.
  • 0:14 - 0:17
My name is Anna Spertini, I'm a teacher
  • 0:17 - 0:20
    I teach children and teenagers
  • 0:20 - 0:23
and I have spent the last
    5 months of my life
  • 0:23 - 0:28
    studying facial micro-expressions
and the emotions related to them
  • 0:30 - 0:34
    Here is for example
    an expression of sincere joy
  • 0:34 - 0:38
    This, however, is the expression
    made by my friends
  • 0:38 - 0:41
    when I tell them
how I spent my summer ...
  • 0:41 - 0:47
    I can see some discomfort,
    a certain embarrassment
  • 0:47 - 0:51
    because actually
    facial micro-expressions
  • 0:51 - 0:55
    are often related and associated
    to the unmasking of lies
  • 0:56 - 0:59
    This is also thanks

  • 0:59 - 1:03
But the people don’t know, that
    by applying these techniques
  • 1:03 - 1:06
    to another sector
    such as education,
  • 1:06 - 1:10
    We can obtain a
    greater communication with students
  • 1:10 - 1:13
    and even greater
    awareness of themselves.
  • 1:13 - 1:15
    I am also a mom.
  • 1:15 - 1:18
My son's name is Alessandro, he is 9
  • 1:18 - 1:22
and he studies violin with the Suzuki method.
  • 1:22 - 1:27
The Suzuki method is an innovative method
    in the teaching of music
  • 1:27 - 1:32
    universally recognized and also
    called “the mother-tongue method”.
  • 1:33 - 1:36
It was created in the last century
    by Shinichi Suzuki
  • 1:36 - 1:39
    who is a Japanese
    violinist and teacher
  • 1:39 - 1:42
    and the main foundation
    of this method is
  • 1:42 - 1:45
    that everyone can
    learn from their environment.
  • 1:45 - 1:49
    Therefore, when you create
    the right stimulating environment,
  • 1:49 - 1:52
    you also foster
the same feelings in the student
  • 1:52 - 1:55
    and so you foster learning.
  • 1:55 - 1:58
Essential condition of the Suzuki method
  • 1:58 - 1:59
    is the participation of
  • 1:59 - 2:01
    at least one parent
  • 2:01 - 2:02
    in the study path.
  • 2:02 - 2:05
    And in fact the success
    of each Suzuki program
  • 2:05 - 2:09
lies exactly in the good quality
    of this so-called
  • 2:09 - 2:13
    "Suzuki triangle"
which is formed by the collaborative
  • 2:13 - 2:17
    relationship between
    teacher, parent and child.
  • 2:19 - 2:22
This is a class of violin
  • 2:22 - 2:24

  • 2:24 - 2:28
    My son’s violin teacher
    is Alessio Nacuzi
  • 2:28 - 2:31

    several e-mails to parents
  • 2:31 - 2:34

  • 2:34 - 2:37

  • 2:37 - 2:40

  • 2:44 - 2:46
    containing, among other things,
    a Web link
  • 2:46 - 2:48
    to Paul Ekman's website.
  • 2:48 - 2:52
    Paul Ekman is a researcher

    facial micro-expressions
  • 2:56 - 2:57

  • 3:19 - 3:23

We spent the entire summer studying
and we were able in late Summer
  • 3:28 - 3:33

  • 3:58 - 4:01
    and I find out that

    facial micro-expressions,
  • 4:04 - 4:08

  • 4:20 - 4:23
and to apply them to teaching.
  • 4:23 - 4:27
    The effect is immediate,

  • 4:27 - 4:29
    a deep communication
and a deep empathy are created,
  • 4:29 - 4:33
    the results are achieved
    much faster
  • 4:33 - 4:36
and with a stable well being condition.
  • 4:40 - 4:43
    Mr Nacuzi is
    convinced that it is possible

    such as the Suzuki method
  • 4:47 - 4:51
    Mental Training, NLP Coaching,

    we can manage to get

    that is at the concert,
  • 4:59 - 5:03

    zero-stress condition
  • 5:03 - 5:06
and thus in a stable well being condition.
  • 5:06 - 5:10
    Many Italian and foreign universities
  • 5:10 - 5:13
    are interested
    in Alessio’s research.
  • 5:13 - 5:15
    Including
    the Royal College of London
  • 5:15 - 5:17
    and of course
    the Paul Ekman Group
  • 5:17 - 5:21
    which has given us
    part of the study material.
  • 5:21 - 5:23
    And then the passage is:
  • 5:23 - 5:27
    How do we define
    the stress levels in children?
  • 5:27 - 5:30
There is a simple and reliable test
  • 5:30 - 5:33
    called salivary cortisol test
  • 5:33 - 5:37
    It consists in collecting
    a small sample of saliva
  • 5:37 - 5:40
from the subject at the time of the performance
  • 5:40 - 5:42
and so in this case, of the concert
  • 5:42 - 5:45
    to measure the precise
    amount of cortisol.
  • 5:45 - 5:46
    When this hormone
  • 5:46 - 5:49
    that is produced
    by adrenal glands
  • 5:49 - 5:51
    is present in high amount,
  • 5:51 - 5:53
    it indicates a stress condition.
  • 5:55 - 5:58
Alessio Nacuzi in its years of experience
  • 5:58 - 6:03
    applied exactly this teaching method
    on many children, his students
  • 6:03 - 6:06
    and he saw that
    actually you can apply it
  • 6:06 - 6:08
it can be done and the results are there.
  • 6:08 - 6:12
    I am an enthusiastic witness
    about this learning process
  • 6:12 - 6:14
because I saw that my son
  • 6:14 - 6:16
    only after two years
    of violin practice
  • 6:16 - 6:19
is now able to play by heart
  • 6:19 - 6:22
    more than 50 pieces,
    including highly complex pieces.
  • 6:22 - 6:25
And so, just think about it
  • 6:25 - 6:27
    how we could
  • 6:27 - 6:29
apply a method of this kind
    even to other subjects
  • 6:29 - 6:33
    such as Maths,
    History, Foreign Languages.
  • 6:33 - 6:36
    We would finally
    give the opportunity
  • 6:36 - 6:38
    to our children
    to take full advantage
  • 6:38 - 6:40
    from this aspect of learning
  • 6:40 - 6:43
    which will accompany them
    throughout their lives.
  • 6:45 - 6:46
    And this brings us
  • 6:46 - 6:49
to the expression of sincere joy
I showed you at the beginning
  • 6:50 - 6:52
    Imagine your children
    happy to learn
  • 6:52 - 6:55
and highly motivated to do so
