    What is man?
  • 0:14 - 0:17
    You guys want to see
    a good picture of man?
  • 0:17 - 0:23
    Children: Yes!
  • 0:23 - 0:27
    Tim: No, it's not God.
  • 0:27 - 0:30
    Children: (unintelligible)
  • 0:30 - 0:36
    Tim: Wait! How'd that
    one get back up there?
  • 0:36 - 0:38
    Is that man?
  • 0:38 - 0:41
    Children: No!
  • 0:41 - 0:43
    Tim: Why? What is man?
  • 0:43 - 0:46
    Children: (unintelligible)
  • 0:46 - 0:50
    Tim: What's true about man?
  • 0:50 - 0:54
How is man different than a rock?
  • 0:54 - 0:56
    Living.
  • 0:56 - 0:58
    Okay, shhh...
  • 0:58 - 1:01
    People are living.
  • 1:01 - 1:04
    That rock's not living.
  • 1:04 - 1:06
    Okay, maybe I've got
    a better picture of man.
  • 1:06 - 1:08
    How about that one?
  • 1:08 - 1:11
    Children: No!
  • 1:11 - 1:15
Tim: Wait, how'd that one get back there?
  • 1:15 - 1:18
Okay, let me ask you something.
  • 1:18 - 1:24
    Does anybody know what
    day God made the turtles?
  • 1:24 - 1:26
    Day 5.
  • 1:26 - 1:30
Does anybody know what day He made man?
  • 1:30 - 1:32
    Six.
  • 1:32 - 1:35
    Day six.
  • 1:35 - 1:40
Okay, now, I think I've got one
of a man here. Are you ready?
  • 1:40 - 1:42
    Children: (laughter)
  • 1:42 - 1:46
Tim: Doesn't that look like your mommy
when she gets up in the morning?
  • 1:46 - 1:52
    Children: (laughter)
  • 1:52 - 1:54
Tim: Okay, what's wrong with this one?
  • 1:54 - 1:57
    Aren't we getting closer?
  • 1:57 - 2:00
    Shh... okay.
  • 2:00 - 2:03
    There's a lot of people
    that want to tell us
  • 2:03 - 2:05
    that was our grandpa.
  • 2:05 - 2:13
Well, I can tell you, that
    doesn't look like my grandpa.
  • 2:13 - 2:16
    Let me ask you this.
  • 2:16 - 2:23
How are we different than that gorilla?
  • 2:23 - 2:26
    Now, okay, we have hair.
  • 2:26 - 2:27
    He has hair.
  • 2:27 - 2:29
We have feet. He has feet.
  • 2:29 - 2:32
    Head, teeth.
  • 2:32 - 2:35
    How are we different?
  • 2:35 - 2:37
    What's the big difference
  • 2:37 - 2:42
    when God created man?
  • 2:42 - 2:43
    Child: We have a soul.
  • 2:43 - 2:46
    Tim: We have a soul.
  • 2:46 - 2:52
And you see, God made us in His image.
  • 2:52 - 2:57
We go to school and we learn.
  • 2:57 - 3:00
    They don't go to school.
  • 3:00 - 3:04
    We worship something.
  • 3:04 - 3:06
    We should be worshiping God,
  • 3:06 - 3:07
    but God made us worshipers
  • 3:07 - 3:11
and God made us in His image.
  • 3:11 - 3:14
Okay, you finally ready for a man?
  • 3:14 - 3:27
    Children: (laughing)
  • 3:27 - 3:31
Tim: So are we still falling short?
  • 3:31 - 3:34
Does that look like your grandpa?
  • 3:34 - 3:38
    Children: No!
  • 3:38 - 3:41
    Tim: How about that?
    Could that be your grandpa?
  • 3:41 - 3:44
    Children: Yes.
  • 3:44 - 3:48
    Tim: That is a man.
  • 3:48 - 3:52
    That could be your grandfather.
  • 3:52 - 3:55
    That could be your grandfather.
  • 3:55 - 4:00
    Or that.
  • 4:00 - 4:03
    They could be your grandfather.
  • 4:03 - 4:07
    That is not your grandfather.
  • 4:07 - 4:09
    Now children, listen.
  • 4:09 - 4:14
You laugh, but it's no laughing matter.
  • 4:14 - 4:15
    Because you know what?
  • 4:15 - 4:19
The devil, he is spreading a lie
  • 4:19 - 4:21
    all over this land
  • 4:21 - 4:23
    that that is your grandfather
  • 4:23 - 4:27
    and that you basically
    evolved from monkeys,
  • 4:27 - 4:30
    from apes, from chimpanzees,
  • 4:30 - 4:32
    from orangutans, from gorillas,
  • 4:32 - 4:35
    and it's just not true.
  • 4:35 - 4:37
    It's a lie.
  • 4:37 - 4:39
    That could be your grandfather,
  • 4:39 - 4:47
but that is never your grandfather.
  • 4:47 - 4:50
    Those are people.
  • 4:50 - 4:53
    They're like you.
  • 4:53 - 4:55
    And God created us.
  • 4:55 - 4:56
    We're different sizes.
  • 4:56 - 4:58
Some are male. Some are female.
  • 4:58 - 5:01
    Look at all the different
    colors of hair and skin,
  • 5:01 - 5:03
    but they're all people.
  • 5:03 - 5:06
They're all made in the image of God.
  • 5:06 - 5:09
Male and female He created them.
  • 5:09 - 5:15
And you're right, they all have souls.
  • 5:15 - 5:16
    Look at that.
  • 5:16 - 5:18
    Children: Woah.
  • 5:18 - 5:21
Tim: There's about 8 billion people
  • 5:21 - 5:26
    with souls in this world.
  • 5:26 - 5:33
    And you know what?
  • 5:33 - 5:37
This man is married and has children.
  • 5:37 - 5:38
But let me tell you something.
  • 5:38 - 5:41
    He doesn't have arms.
    He doesn't have legs.
  • 5:41 - 5:43
But is he still a man?
  • 5:43 - 5:45
Yes, because you don't have to have
  • 5:45 - 5:47
arms and legs to be a man.
  • 5:47 - 5:50
What do you have to have?
  • 5:50 - 5:51
    A soul.
  • 5:51 - 5:55
You need to be made in the image of God.
  • 5:55 - 5:59
And you have a human soul.
  • 5:59 - 6:02
    Children: Aww...
  • 6:02 - 6:05
Tim: Now here's what I want you to know.
  • 6:05 - 6:10
Every person that comes into the world.
  • 6:10 - 6:11
    They're born.
  • 6:11 - 6:12
They come in as a baby.
  • 6:12 - 6:14
    And then what happens?
  • 6:14 - 6:16
    Children: They grow up.
  • 6:16 - 6:21
Tim: They become a little girl
  • 6:21 - 6:22
    or a little boy.
  • 6:22 - 6:25
    And then what happens?
  • 6:25 - 6:27
    Then a teenager.
  • 6:27 - 6:29
    A bunch of teenagers here.
  • 6:29 - 6:31
    Right, that's what happens.
  • 6:31 - 6:33
    And then what?
  • 6:33 - 6:34
    Grown up.
  • 6:34 - 6:35
These people are all different ages.
  • 6:35 - 6:37
    Maybe in their late 20's
  • 6:37 - 6:42
to all the way to 50's, maybe 60.
  • 6:42 - 6:44
    And then what happens?
  • 6:44 - 6:48
    Children: They die.
  • 6:48 - 6:52
Tim: Maybe, if God allows it,
  • 6:52 - 6:55
you live to be really old -
  • 6:55 - 6:57
maybe in your 80's or 90's,
  • 6:57 - 7:01
    maybe even into the 100's.
  • 7:01 - 7:11
Children, do you know what's true of man?
  • 7:11 - 7:15
You - if you live long -
  • 7:15 - 7:17
you're going to end up like this.
  • 7:17 - 7:19
    You know Papa.
  • 7:19 - 7:22
Papa's not here today, is he?
  • 7:22 - 7:26
He's 90 years old, but do you know
  • 7:26 - 7:29
he used to be your age?
  • 7:29 - 7:32
And inside he still feels young,
  • 7:32 - 7:34
    but you can't stop it.
  • 7:34 - 7:37
    Time. Time keeps ticking.
  • 7:37 - 7:43
It's going. And you can't stop it.
  • 7:43 - 7:46
    And then you die.
  • 7:46 - 7:49
And you know what's true about man?
  • 7:49 - 7:52
    Today's question: What is man?
  • 7:52 - 7:55
I'll tell you what man is.
    Man is temporary.
  • 7:55 - 7:57
    And you know it.
  • 7:57 - 7:59
    Children, you're young,
  • 7:59 - 8:01
and you may not want to think about death,
  • 8:01 - 8:02
    but death is coming.
  • 8:02 - 8:03
    We sing a song:
  • 8:03 - 8:06
Hell is moving, death is coming.
  • 8:06 - 8:08
Or death is moving, hell is coming.
  • 8:08 - 8:10
    Which one is it?
  • 8:10 - 8:17
    Anyway, it's coming. It's coming.
  • 8:17 - 8:21
You know what? For most of us,
  • 8:21 - 8:24
a hundred years from now -
  • 8:24 - 8:27
    a hundred years from now,
  • 8:27 - 8:28
    most of us,
  • 8:28 - 8:33
there's going to be a place like this.
  • 8:33 - 8:34
There's going to be a place
  • 8:34 - 8:36
that says "Tim Conway" on it
  • 8:36 - 8:38
    right on that stone.
  • 8:38 - 8:42
Seth - it's going to be on that stone.
  • 8:42 - 8:43
    A hundred years from now,
  • 8:43 - 8:44
    every one of you,
  • 8:44 - 8:47
    there's going to be a
    stone like this probably.
  • 8:47 - 8:50
    Unless the Lord comes.
  • 8:50 - 8:54
And it's not just one by one.
  • 8:54 - 8:57
    We all die.
  • 8:57 - 8:59
    All of us.
  • 8:59 - 9:01
And you can't get away from it.
  • 9:01 - 9:02
    Well, here's the thing,
  • 9:02 - 9:05
    why does man die?
  • 9:05 - 9:06
When we ask "what is man?"
  • 9:06 - 9:08
    I'll tell you this.
  • 9:08 - 9:11
Whatever man is, man is dying.
  • 9:11 - 9:13
    We come into this world
  • 9:13 - 9:15
and we're dying right from the beginning.
  • 9:15 - 9:17
And you know what? Some children
  • 9:17 - 9:19
don't make it to your age.
  • 9:19 - 9:21
Some die when they are your age.
  • 9:21 - 9:23
Some die long before they get to my age.
  • 9:23 - 9:25
I have friends that I went to school with,
  • 9:25 - 9:28
    they're already gone.
  • 9:28 - 9:31
    We all die.
  • 9:31 - 9:34
    Why?
  • 9:34 - 9:36
    Why?
  • 9:36 - 9:40
Do you know what man is?
  • 9:40 - 9:43
    Man is a sinner.
  • 9:43 - 9:47
    God said,
  • 9:47 - 9:49
    he who sins -
  • 9:49 - 9:52
"the soul that sinneth shall die."
  • 9:52 - 9:54
Do you know why you're going to die
  • 9:54 - 9:55
    like all these people?
  • 9:55 - 9:57
    Think about it.
  • 9:57 - 9:58
    Who is this?
  • 9:58 - 10:03
    They lived their life.
  • 10:03 - 10:05
I don't know if these are soldiers.
  • 10:05 - 10:06
I don't know who these are.
  • 10:06 - 10:09
But these were people. They had names.
  • 10:09 - 10:10
    They were born.
  • 10:10 - 10:11
And you know what else they had?
  • 10:11 - 10:13
    They had sin.
  • 10:13 - 10:17
    They told lies.
  • 10:17 - 10:20
When they were your age, like this,
  • 10:20 - 10:23
    they had tantrums.
  • 10:23 - 10:26
They didn't obey mommy and daddy.
  • 10:26 - 10:29
    They grew up
  • 10:29 - 10:31
    and they sinned against God.
  • 10:31 - 10:33
    That is who man is.
  • 10:33 - 10:35
    Man is a sinner
  • 10:35 - 10:37
and because man is a sinner,
  • 10:37 - 10:40
    man is a dead man.
  • 10:40 - 10:44
    You know what?
  • 10:44 - 10:46
I don't want to tell you funny stories.
  • 10:46 - 10:48
I don't want to show you pictures
  • 10:48 - 10:49
    of chimpanzees all the time
  • 10:49 - 10:51
    and just make you laugh
  • 10:51 - 10:54
    because this is dead serious.
  • 10:54 - 10:59
Children, you know who man is?
  • 10:59 - 11:01
    Man is you.
  • 11:01 - 11:03
    Man is me.
  • 11:03 - 11:06
    And man is headed there.
  • 11:06 - 11:08
    That's where their body goes,
  • 11:08 - 11:11
but where does their soul go?
  • 11:11 - 11:13
Their soul goes to heaven or hell.
  • 11:13 - 11:14
    And you know what?
  • 11:14 - 11:17
One day is going to come -
    and Jesus said it,
  • 11:17 - 11:19
when by the command of His voice
  • 11:19 - 11:23
    every person is going to
rise up out of the graves
  • 11:23 - 11:24
    when He says come forth.
  • 11:24 - 11:26
    You remember how it was?
  • 11:26 - 11:29
    He said, "Lazarus, come forth!"
  • 11:29 - 11:30
    And he came forth.
  • 11:30 - 11:33
He is the resurrection and the life.
  • 11:33 - 11:35
    And one day, He's going
    to give the command
  • 11:35 - 11:38
and everybody is going to come out.
  • 11:38 - 11:41
Some to the resurrection of the judgment.
  • 11:41 - 11:44
Some to the resurrection of life.
  • 11:44 - 11:48
Children, you are going to die,
  • 11:48 - 11:52
and the most important thing of all
  • 11:52 - 11:55
is that when you die, you have a Savior
  • 11:55 - 11:58
who has washed away all your sins.
  • 11:58 - 12:02
    Because if you're saved,
  • 12:02 - 12:04
    when you die,
  • 12:04 - 12:06
    you don't go to hell.
  • 12:06 - 12:08
When you die, you go to Paradise
  • 12:08 - 12:10
    to be with Christ
  • 12:10 - 12:14
and to be with Him forever.
  • 12:14 - 12:17
    You know who man is?
  • 12:17 - 12:22
Man is somebody who is dying.
  • 12:22 - 12:23
    He's dying.
  • 12:23 - 12:27
    Man is dying.
  • 12:27 - 12:32
Children, in a very few years,
  • 12:32 - 12:35
    do you know what happens?
  • 12:35 - 12:36
    Almost everybody dies
  • 12:36 - 12:40
before they think they're going to die.
  • 12:40 - 12:44
Death will come for you before you think.
  • 12:44 - 12:46
If you know you're going to die,
  • 12:46 - 12:48
you know you're going to have to face God
  • 12:48 - 12:49
    on judgment day,
  • 12:49 - 12:52
    the most important thing is
    that your sins are forgiven.
  • 12:52 - 12:55
    Children, you children are not
  • 12:55 - 12:58
    too young to be saved.
  • 12:58 - 13:01
You can talk to Jesus. Talk to Him.
  • 13:01 - 13:03
    You talk to Him tonight.
  • 13:03 - 13:05
Lord, I know I'm going to die
  • 13:05 - 13:09
and I know I'm going to
    die because I'm a sinner.
  • 13:09 - 13:11
What can wash away your sins?
  • 13:11 - 13:13
    Children: The blood of Jesus.
  • 13:13 - 13:15
Tim: Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
  • 13:15 - 13:18
    Listen, that isn't
just a fun song to sing.
  • 13:18 - 13:21
That's a truth to be believed.
  • 13:21 - 13:25
Jesus' blood washes away your sin.
  • 13:25 - 13:27
    Children, ask Him:
  • 13:27 - 13:33
    Lord Jesus, please save me.
  • 13:33 - 13:36
And He promises if you call
    upon Him, He'll save you.
  • 13:36 - 13:41
    And if you're saved, you
    don't have to fear that.
  • 13:41 - 13:43
    He saved me.
  • 13:43 - 13:44
I don't have to fear that.
  • 13:44 - 13:46
But you know what? Before He saved me,
  • 13:46 - 13:48
    I did fear that.
  • 13:48 - 13:49
    That's what the Bible says.
