Don’t Let Lack of Results Discourage Your Evangelism - Tim Conway
-
0:01 - 0:05We can get discouraged by
an apparent lack of results. -
0:05 - 0:08I was just talking to a
couple brothers last night. -
0:08 - 0:15We're going to go down
to New York later today. -
0:15 - 0:17And I know there's a group
of brethren down there. -
0:17 - 0:18They've been going at it.
-
0:18 - 0:21Trying to plant a church for four years.
-
0:21 - 0:24Perhaps, there isn't much seen of fruit.
-
0:24 - 0:25Let me tell you something.
-
0:25 - 0:27When our church started,
-
0:27 - 0:29we went 16 months -
-
0:29 - 0:30no additions to the church.
-
0:30 - 0:33In fact, we had subtractions
from the church. -
0:33 - 0:35You know what happened when William Carey
-
0:35 - 0:37went over to India?
-
0:37 - 0:39He preached and he preached.
-
0:39 - 0:41And he set forth the truth.
-
0:41 - 0:43And he began to acquire languages.
-
0:43 - 0:49And he set up some indigo
(is that the right word?) - -
0:49 - 0:53he was trying to produce income
-
0:53 - 0:56so that the churches back in England
-
0:56 - 0:57didn't have to support him.
-
0:57 - 1:00And he sought to be self-supporting.
-
1:00 - 1:02And he was getting the Gospel out.
-
1:02 - 1:06And you know it was seven years
-
1:06 - 1:08before he had one convert.
-
1:08 - 1:10If you've ever read the biography,
-
1:10 - 1:12one man.
-
1:12 - 1:13I've been at that location
-
1:13 - 1:20there (incomplete thought) in Calcutta.
-
1:20 - 1:22I've been there at the place on the river
-
1:22 - 1:26where he baptized that guy.
-
1:26 - 1:28Seven years.
-
1:28 - 1:31Seven years.
-
1:31 - 1:34(incomplete thought)
-
1:34 - 1:38I preached right in
front of that baptismal -
1:38 - 1:41where Adoniram Judson was baptized.
-
1:41 - 1:47I think William Marshman
baptized him there. -
1:47 - 1:50Adoniram Judson.
-
1:50 - 1:55Six to seven years of laboring in Burma.
-
1:55 - 1:57He left Calcutta.
-
1:57 - 2:00He went over to Burma.
-
2:00 - 2:06Providential events - he landed there.
-
2:06 - 2:08Years.
-
2:08 - 2:10You're in New England.
-
2:10 - 2:14It can feel like it's burnt over here.
-
2:14 - 2:15The Gospel was preached.
-
2:15 - 2:17But you remember this,
-
2:17 - 2:20there wasn't just a first Great Awakening.
-
2:20 - 2:24There was a second Great Awakening.
-
2:24 - 2:27There were revivals in the 1850's.
-
2:27 - 2:29What am I saying here?
-
2:29 - 2:30There's a cycle.
-
2:30 - 2:34Just because the Gospel
flourished here once -
2:34 - 2:35and now it may not be,
-
2:35 - 2:39does not mean that it may not again.
-
2:39 - 2:41And even if it doesn't again,
-
2:41 - 2:42you can look around the world
-
2:42 - 2:45and you can find local
places where God moves. -
2:45 - 2:47And you remember this,
-
2:47 - 2:50that when they walked in there to Samaria,
-
2:50 - 2:53and all those Samaritans were coming out,
-
2:53 - 2:54Jesus turned to His disciples
-
2:54 - 2:58and said, "Look, you're reaping a harvest
-
2:58 - 3:01right here where others labored."
-
3:01 - 3:03It may be that in our day, we labor.
-
3:03 - 3:06It may be in our day,
we lay out the Gospel seed. -
3:06 - 3:09And it may be that in our lifetime,
-
3:09 - 3:11we don't see it bring forth a harvest.
-
3:11 - 3:14But it may in the next generation.
-
3:14 - 3:15We may take part.
-
3:15 - 3:17There are those that sow.
-
3:17 - 3:18There are those that reap.
-
3:18 - 3:20Look, it's a big picture.
-
3:20 - 3:23It's a big package.
-
3:23 - 3:25But I can tell you this,
-
3:25 - 3:28that after 16 months,
-
3:28 - 3:30we began to see people added.
-
3:30 - 3:33And we began to see people converted.
-
3:33 - 3:35In fact, when Charles Leiter came down,
-
3:35 - 3:37I remember him saying
-
3:37 - 3:38speaking to people in our church,
-
3:38 - 3:41he said most of the people had been saved
-
3:41 - 3:43in the last three years.
-
3:43 - 3:45The Lord began bringing us a bunch.
-
3:45 - 3:47I'm not saying it was all necessarily
-
3:47 - 3:49an outworking of our evangelism.
-
3:49 - 3:51It was just that God was saving.
-
3:51 - 3:54I'll tell you quite honestly,
-
3:54 - 3:56Paul Washer's shocking youth message
-
3:56 - 3:57seemed to save so many people
-
3:57 - 4:00across this United States of ours
-
4:00 - 4:01and around the world,
-
4:01 - 4:05that churches were springing
up in different places -
4:05 - 4:11and continue to through
the Internet ministry. -
4:11 - 4:13And you can say,
"I'm not a Paul Washer." -
4:13 - 4:16Well, no, neither am I, but that's okay.
-
4:16 - 4:19Neither was the demoniac.
-
4:19 - 4:22Well, I don't know. Maybe he was.
-
4:22 - 4:31But brethren, I know this.
-
4:31 - 4:36Jesus said I've got these sheep here,
-
4:36 - 4:39but I've got other sheep.
-
4:39 - 4:42And I need to bring them too.
-
4:42 - 4:43And you can be sure of this,
-
4:43 - 4:46God has an elect people.
They're going to get saved. -
4:46 - 4:47And I'll tell you how they get saved.
-
4:47 - 4:52They get saved through the
preaching of the Gospel. -
4:52 - 4:54Jesus said He's bringing them in.
-
4:54 - 4:57He's going to gather them.

- Don’t Let Lack of Results Discourage Your Evangelism - Tim Conway
- Description:
-
Many Christians give up on evangelism because they don't see any fruit or results from their labor. We should not let a lack of results discourage our evangelism.
