The FREAKAZOID Fan Film (A Fan Film)

Title:
The FREAKAZOID Fan Film (A Fan Film)
Description:

It's been over twenty years since Hollywood has returned any of his calls. Now, with no options left, Freakazoid turns to an unlikely indie filmmaker to help him create his own fan film. But will it be any good?

A WORD FROM CHRIS

This fan film solely exists because of you, the fans. Well, the fans from my Facebook page. A while back, I posted that I was curious to see what sort of fan film people thought I should make next. And after sifting through the dozens of suggestions, I chose four semi-finalists: Squirrel Girl, Space Ghost, The Phantom and (of course) Freakazoid. Freakazoid and Squirrel Girl were neck and neck for a while, but ultimately, Freakazoid won out.

And so, I began my challenge. The first thing I did was figure out my approach. I knew Freakazoid was a 4th wall breaking sort of character, and there was plenty of room to have fun with that, but I wanted this to be something different from what you've come to expect from characters like Deadpool. So, the idea of Freakazoid literally trying to pitch a fan film to me became the centerpiece for the story.

I love acting, but it's very rare that I ever get to play a lead role in anything I do, since cloning hasn't become a viable option for me, yet. But a controlled location, set entirely in my own home made things much more doable. And thus, things began to fall into place.

I knew I wanted a true comedian with a real physical presence for Freakazoid. And I've known Alex since 2010 when I first saw his Ace Ventura short. Because we lived on opposite ends of the country, we were unable to get together. For YEARS in fact. But thankfully, I did eventually make the move to LA.

So with a completed script, ready to go, I shot Alex an email and asked if he would be interested in the part. And he graciously was. Alex has made an amazing name for himself on Youtube and for a guy like him to be open to working with me, I was very honored.

The film took a day to shoot. And that's all she wrote. All in all, it was about as challenging to make this short as it was fun. I am a strong advocate for never directing and starring in your own films unless you know exactly what you're doing. So to be able to pull off something like this was a real accomplishment for me.
