Late Night Casserole: Game of Scones, Who Ate It Better?

  • 0:00 - 0:02
    So, are you guys familiar
  • 0:02 - 0:05
    with the -
the dish known as a casserole?
  • 0:05 - 0:08
    If you're not, a casserole
    is one of those meals
  • 0:08 - 0:11
where you throw a bunch of
    different kind of food
  • 0:11 - 0:13
    into a dish
and you sort of cook it up,
  • 0:13 - 0:14
    and what you get
    is just what you get.
  • 0:14 - 0:17
And the reason I bring it up
is we here at "Late Night" --
    we come up with tons
of different ideas all the time
  • 0:20 - 0:21
    for the show,
  • 0:21 - 0:24
and many of them aren't quite
enough to be full sketches --
    full meals, if you will.
  • 0:26 - 0:28
    But instead of just discarding
    all those ideas,
  • 0:28 - 0:30
    we thought we'd throw
    them together casserole-style
  • 0:30 - 0:32
    in a segment we call
    "Late Night Casserole."
  • 0:32 - 0:34
    [ Cheers and applause ]
  • 0:38 - 0:40
All right, so, here we go.
  • 0:40 - 0:41
    Whenever
    there's a red-carpet event
  • 0:41 - 0:43
    and two celebrities
    wear the same outfit,
  • 0:43 - 0:46
    there inevitably
is a "Who Wore It Better?"
  • 0:46 - 0:47
    In magazines and TV shows.
  • 0:47 - 0:49
    Well, celebrities do more
    than just wear clothes --
  • 0:49 - 0:51
    they also eat.
  • 0:51 - 0:53
    And sometimes,
    celebrities eat the same foods,
  • 0:53 - 0:56
    which brings us
    to our first casserole segment
  • 0:56 - 0:57
    called
    "Who Ate It Better?"
  • 1:00 - 1:02
    [ Cheers and applause ]
  • 1:02 - 1:04
So, here, we have a photo
    of Christoph Waltz.
  • 1:04 - 1:06
    He's eating a hamburger.
    [ Laughter ]
  • 1:06 - 1:08
    Next, we have
    a photo of Gene Simmons,
  • 1:08 - 1:09
    also eating a hamburger.
    [ Laughter and applause ]
  • 1:10 - 1:11
    And who ate it better?
  • 1:11 - 1:13
    Christoph Waltz.
    There you go.
  • 1:13 - 1:14
    [ Laughter and applause ]
  • 1:14 - 1:16
    And that was
    "Who Ate It Better?"
  • 1:18 - 1:19
[ Cheers and applause continue ]
  • 1:19 - 1:21
    And that's it -- that's the kind
    of idea we're dealing with.
  • 1:21 - 1:23
    [ Laughter ]
  • 1:23 - 1:25
    Just think --
    if this wasn't "Casserole,"
  • 1:25 - 1:27
    we would do that
    nine more times.
    [ Laughter ]
  • 1:29 - 1:34
    You know, this year,
    Robert Frost's seminal 1923 poem
  • 1:34 - 1:36
    "Stopping by Woods
    on a Snowy Evening"
    entered the public domain.
  • 1:39 - 1:41
So that means it no longer has
  • 1:41 - 1:43
    an intellectual property
    copyright --
  • 1:43 - 1:44
    we can use it.
  • 1:44 - 1:46
    We can do whatever
    we want with it,
  • 1:46 - 1:47
    legally.
    [ Laughter ]
  • 1:47 - 1:50
    So we decided, for
    the first time on television,
  • 1:50 - 1:54
    to let a high-school scream-o
band from 2003 cover the poem.
    Please welcome
    from Piscataway, New Jersey,
  • 1:57 - 2:01
    Mary's Morning Deathbed.
  • 3:27 - 3:28
    -Well, I mean...
  • 3:35 - 3:38
This next piece is very dumb.
  • 3:42 - 3:44
    It's not a smart one
    like that last piece.
  • 3:47 - 3:49
    This one is called
    "Roomba Rumors,"
  • 3:49 - 3:54
    and what it is,
is rumors told by a Roomba.
  • 3:54 - 3:56
    "Roomba Rumors."
    You get it.
    [ Laughter ]
  • 3:59 - 4:01
    Now let's see it.
  • 4:02 - 4:04
    [ Whirring ]
  • 4:04 - 4:07
    [ Laughter ]
  • 4:11 - 4:12
    -Psst!
  • 4:12 - 4:15
    Hey, come here.
  • 4:15 - 4:16
    [ Light laughter ]
    I heard Lisa Gilbert's parents
    got her a boob job
  • 4:20 - 4:22
    for her 16th birthday.
  • 4:22 - 4:24
    [ Laughter ]
    -Whoo!
  • 4:25 - 4:27
    [ Laughter ]
  • 4:27 - 4:30
    [ Cheers and applause ]
  • 4:31 - 4:33
    [ Laughter ]
  • 4:37 - 4:42
    [ Laughter continues ]
  • 4:42 - 4:44
    -Get out of here!
  • 4:44 - 4:47
    [ Laughter and applause ]
  • 4:47 - 4:51
    [ Cheers and applause ]
  • 4:55 - 4:56
    "Game of Thrones,"
    a wonderful show,
  • 4:56 - 4:58
had its series finale on Sunday,
  • 4:58 - 5:00
    and we're all sad --
    we're all sad it's over.
  • 5:00 - 5:03
So we start wondering, what if,
    to make us feel better,
  • 5:03 - 5:07
    the Food Network
    did a shot-for-shot remake
  • 5:07 - 5:10
    and called their show
    "Game of Scones"?
  • 5:10 - 5:12
    [ Laughter ]
  • 5:15 - 5:18
-So long as I am your King,
  • 5:18 - 5:20
    treason shall never
    go unpunished.
  • 5:20 - 5:24
Ser Ilyn, bring me his head!
    [ Indistinct shouting ]
  • 5:35 - 5:37
    -[ Breathing heavily ]
  • 5:42 - 5:43
    [ Squelches ]
  • 5:43 - 5:45
    [ Laughter ]
  • 5:47 - 5:49
    [ Cheers and applause ]
  • 5:53 - 5:54
    [ Applause continues ]
  • 5:54 - 5:55
    [ Laughter ]
  • 5:55 - 5:57
    [ Applause fades ]
  • 5:57 - 5:59
    -Let's hear another
    "Roomba Rumor."
  • 5:59 - 6:01
    [ Laughter ]
  • 6:01 - 6:03
    [ Laughter and applause ]
  • 6:03 - 6:06
    [ Whirring ]
  • 6:06 - 6:09
    [ Laughter ]
  • 6:09 - 6:11
    -Psst, hey!
  • 6:11 - 6:14
    Come here.
  • 6:14 - 6:18
    Mary Perkins said her son,
    Scott, got into Yale,
  • 6:18 - 6:20
    but he's actually
    going to rehab.
  • 6:20 - 6:22
    [ Laughter ]
  • 6:24 - 6:26
    [ Laughter continues ]
  • 6:26 - 6:28
    [ Cheers and applause ]
  • 6:33 - 6:37
    [ Laughter ]
  • 6:37 - 6:39
    [ Laughter continues ]
  • 6:39 - 6:41
-Come on, you can do it, buddy.
  • 6:41 - 6:42
    You can do it.
  • 6:42 - 6:44
    Aw, you bailed again?!
  • 6:44 - 6:47
    [ Laughter and applause ]
  • 6:48 - 6:52
    [ Cheers and applause ]
  • 6:56 - 7:00
    We rehearsed for that
    more than a Broadway show.
    [ Laughter ]
  • 7:06 - 7:09
    There are videos --
    there are these videos online
  • 7:09 - 7:11
    of people quietly making noise
    and speaking softly
    that some individuals
    find pleasurable.
  • 7:13 - 7:15
These videos are what is called
    "ASMR," or autonomous
    sensory meridian response.
  • 7:18 - 7:20
    Here's an example
    of Jennifer Garner doing one.
    -[ Whispering ]
    I'm Jennifer...Garner.
  • 7:26 - 7:32
    And I am doing
    an ASMR interview.
  • 7:32 - 7:35
    -So we decided to record
    an ASMR video
  • 7:35 - 7:37
    with comedian Gilbert Gottfried.
  • 7:37 - 7:40
    [ Laughter and applause ]
  • 7:41 - 7:44
    -Hi! I'm Gilbert Gottfried!
  • 7:44 - 7:45
    Anvil, paper cut!
  • 7:45 - 7:47
    Sealy Posturepedic.
    Now I'm gonna open
    a can of corn.
  • 7:52 - 7:54
    Oh!
  • 7:54 - 7:58
    Look at that corn --
    it's so soupy.
  • 7:58 - 8:00
    Is this creamed corn?
    Well, either way,
the corn's all over the place.
  • 8:04 - 8:05
    Do you like this?
  • 8:05 - 8:09
Is my voice making you tingle?
    [ Laughter ]
  • 8:09 - 8:13
    Do you feel tingly?!
  • 8:13 - 8:16
    You're getting
a little turned on, aren't you?
  • 8:16 - 8:18
    [ Laughter ]
    I could tell!
  • 8:18 - 8:20
    That's fine.
  • 8:20 - 8:25
    Relax your head
    and float downstream!
  • 8:25 - 8:26
    [ Laughter ]
  • 8:26 - 8:28
    [ Cheers and applause ]
    -And, hey --
  • 8:28 - 8:30
    Yeah, give it up for
    Gilbert Gottfried, everybody.
  • 8:30 - 8:34
[ Cheers and applause continue ]
  • 8:34 - 8:36
    I personally am
in the mood for a rumor,
    but since he's shown us
that he's so good at steering...
  • 8:39 - 8:42
    [ Light laughter ]
  • 8:42 - 8:44
    [ Clinking ]
  • 8:44 - 8:46
    [ Light laughter ]
  • 8:49 - 8:50
    [ Laughter continues ]
  • 8:50 - 8:53
    Come on out, Roomba rumor.
  • 8:53 - 8:54
    [ Light laughter ]
  • 8:58 - 9:01
    [ Laughter continues ]
  • 9:01 - 9:04
What -- What are you doing?
    -Psst!
    -What?!
  • 9:05 - 9:09
    [ Laughter ]
  • 9:09 - 9:11
    Are you kidding me?
    -We're -- We're hav--
  • 9:11 - 9:13
    We're having a bit of
    technical difficulty back here.
  • 9:13 - 9:16
    [ Laughter ]
    People are freaking out.
  • 9:16 - 9:17
    Nobody can see it
    in the audience.
  • 9:17 - 9:19
    [ Laughter ]
    But here's another
    "Roomba Rumor."
  • 9:24 - 9:28
    Patty Dawkins said her husband
    is away on business,
  • 9:28 - 9:30
    but he's actually dead
    under the porch.
    [ Laughter ]
  • 9:32 - 9:34
    Anyway,
    it's been a real pleasure.
    -Yeah.
    -Have a good one.
  • 9:37 - 9:40
    -Uh.
    [ Laughter ]
  • 9:40 - 9:42
    Hey, you guys...
  • 9:42 - 9:43
    For --
    [ Cheers and applause ]
  • 9:43 - 9:46
    Yeah, give it up
    for "Roomba Rumor."
  • 9:46 - 9:50
[ Cheers and applause continue ]
  • 9:50 - 9:51
    [ Applause continues ]
  • 9:51 - 9:54
    For "Late Night Casserole,"
    no idea is too strange.
  • 9:54 - 9:56
    And that will become
    abundantly clear
  • 9:56 - 9:58
when you see our final piece.
  • 9:58 - 10:01
Here is one of our favorites,
    Conner O'Malley,
  • 10:01 - 10:03
    with an interpretive dance
  • 10:03 - 10:07
    to the theme music
    from "The Sopranos."
  • 10:07 - 10:09
    [ Cheers and applause ]
  • 10:19 - 10:22
    Got yourself a gun
  • 10:22 - 10:26
    Your mama always said
    you'd be the chosen one
    She said
    you're one in a million
  • 10:29 - 10:32
You've got to burn to shine
    [ Cheers and applause ]
  • 10:32 - 10:35
    But you were born
    under a bad sign
  • 10:35 - 10:38
    With a blue moon
    in your eyes
    [ Laughter ]
And you woke up this morning
  • 10:41 - 10:44
    All that love had gone
  • 10:44 - 10:48
    Your papa never told you
    about right and wrong
  • 10:48 - 10:51
    But you're looking good,
    baby
  • 10:51 - 10:53
    I believe
    that you're feeling fine
    Shame about it
  • 10:54 - 10:56
    Born under a bad sign
  • 10:56 - 10:58
    With a blue moon
    in your eyes
  • 10:58 - 11:00
    Just sing along
    [ Cheers and applause ]
  • 11:00 - 11:01
    Woke up this morning
  • 11:01 - 11:03
    You got a blue moon
  • 11:03 - 11:06
Got a blue moon in your eyes,
    oh, yeah
  • 11:09 - 11:13
    I'm singing,
    you woke up this morning
  • 11:13 - 11:15
    The world turned upside down
    [ Cheers and applause ]
  • 11:15 - 11:17
    Lord above,
    things ain't been the same
  • 11:17 - 11:20
    Since the blues
    walked into town
  • 11:20 - 11:23
    But you're --
    you're one in a million
  • 11:23 - 11:25
    'Cause you've got
    that shotgun shine
  • 11:25 - 11:27
    Shame about it
  • 11:27 - 11:28
    Born under a bad sign
  • 11:28 - 11:31
    With a blue moon
    in your eyes, yeah
  • 11:31 - 11:32
    - Yeah
  • 11:32 - 11:36
    - You woke up this morning
  • 11:36 - 11:37
    You got yourself a gun
  • 11:37 - 11:38
    [ Cheers and applause ]
  • 11:38 - 11:41
    Got yourself a gun
  • 11:41 - 11:43
    Got yourself a gun
  • 11:44 - 11:47
    [ Music ends ]
    -[ Laughs ]
  • 11:47 - 11:50
    [ Cheers and applause ]
    That's Conner O'Malley!
  • 11:50 - 11:51
    This has been
    "Late Night Casserole"!
