Nursing home coronavirus deaths soared throughout 2020 in one of the most devastating health debacles in our nation’s history. The coronavirus swept through long-term care facilities, killing more than 100,000 residents and workers. AARP Studios, in partnership with the AARP Bulletin, investigated what happened in the first 18 weeks, between late February and June 2020, when questionable decisions and uncertain reactions let the situation escalate almost unchecked during the critical early months of the coronavirus pandemic. This is the story of COVID-19 in nursing homes, in the words of people who were there.
