-
Hi, how are you doing?
-
Justin here with another
quick tip for you.
-
And this one is pretty random indeed
but very, very cool and effective.
-
It just seems really funny.
-
I'd better admit straight away
that I stole this
-
off my buddy Dario Cortese,
great guitar player,
-
we were just doing a workshop
-
over in Italy last weekend.
-
He mentioned this thing
and I just thought,
-
I thought it was a joke at first
-
and I didn't really believe it.
-
Then i tried it and it worked.
-
I'm going to share this with you
-
because it's just so weird.
-
So, many of you will have noticed before,
-
especially if you are doing
those kinds of licks like -
-
lots of slidey sort of stuff,
-
fingers can sometimes feel
a little bit abrasive on the strings.
-
There's things that you can buy,
-
like there's stuff called
-
Fast Fret that I used to use
-
when I was a teenager
to lube up the strings a bit.
-
Actually, you don't need to bother
doing all that sort of stuff
-
because we've got a natural lubricant
hiding in our eyebrows and in our hair.
-
Just try this, you won't believe me,
-
I didn't believe it
until I tried it either.
-
If you just rub your fingers
-
up one of the strings,
-
not the wound strings,
-
they are always going to feel
-
a bit gritty, but say the third string.
-
Run your fingers up and down the string
and feel how abrasive it is.
-
Then get your fingers together,
and give them a rub on your eyebrow
-
and then do it again, and you'll feel
it's so much easier.
-
It's really lubed up your fingers,
-
which means that you can
slide about on the guitar a lot easier.
-
It's just such a weird, random thing,
-
I almost can't believe
that I'm actually letting this out
-
into the wider world
because it sounds really weird.
-
But it works.
It's really effective.
-
If you fingers are kind of
grating on the strings
-
and you can feel them rubbing
-
then it's going to wear
the skin out on your fingers,
-
wear the calluses,
and you don't want that.
-
You want to keep them
nice and solid.
-
So, yeah. Very random
but very effective.
-
I'll pass on the credit now.
-
Again, I nicked this
off my buddy Dario Cortese,
-
I'll put a link up to his website
in the description here.
-
Fantastic country guitar player,
-
a master of many different styles
but an incrdible player.
-
A specialist in country stuff,
-
he's got a YouTube channel
with loads of guitar lessons on it,
-
the country ones are amazing.
-
You definitely want to
check that out as well.
-
I hope you'll have a little bit of fun
-
lubing up your fingers
with your eyebrows
-
or you know, I don't have
a whole lot of hair so...
-
I could probably scrape out
enough oil to use my hair
-
but the eyebrows,
especially when you've got
-
massive eyebrows like mine,
which seem to work a treat.
-
But if you've got lots of hair,
just a quick rub
-
will sort it out as well.
-
What a random quick tip this is.
-
Anyway, I hope it helps you
slide around on the guitar easier.
-
I'll see you for plenty more
lessons and songs
-
and all sorts of stuff very soon.
-
Take care of yourself, bye bye.
