MRUniversity Introduzione

  • 0:00 - 0:02
    Hi, I am Alex Tabarrok,
  • 0:02 - 0:04
    Welcome to Marginal
    Revolution University
  • 0:05 - 0:07
    Since launching our online
    education platform
  • 0:07 - 0:09
people have been asking Tyler and I
  • 0:09 - 0:11
    Why are putting all
    this time and effort
  • 0:11 - 0:14
    and then giving away your
product to the world for free?
  • 0:14 - 0:16
Let me give you two answers:
  • 0:16 - 0:18
First, whether it's been in the classroom,
  • 0:18 - 0:21
    or our blog,
    Marginal Revolution,
  • 0:21 - 0:23
    or our textbook "Modern
    principles of Economics",
  • 0:23 - 0:27
Tyler and I have always been
    motivated by the fact
  • 0:27 - 0:29
    that we think learning Economics
    is important
  • 0:29 - 0:31
    We think learning Economics
  • 0:31 - 0:33
can make the world a better place
  • 0:33 - 0:37
and with our first course on MRUniversity,
    Development Economics,
  • 0:37 - 0:41
we are asking what is perhaps
    the most important question
  • 0:41 - 0:43
    in all of the Economics
  • 0:43 - 0:46
    Why are some countries rich,
    while other countries are poor?
  • 0:46 - 0:51
For billions of people that is
    a life and death question,
  • 0:51 - 0:55
    and we think that Economics
has something to add to that question
  • 0:55 - 0:57
    and we are really excited
    about the opportunity
  • 0:57 - 0:59
    to reach a global audience
  • 0:59 - 1:02
Second, in putting together these courses
  • 1:02 - 1:03
Tyler and I have realized that
  • 1:03 - 1:06
    online education really improves
    the efficiency of learning.
  • 1:07 - 1:10
So, in a classroom, for example,
    professors often repeat themselves
  • 1:11 - 1:12
    but in the online world
  • 1:12 - 1:14
    you are in control.
  • 1:15 - 1:18
You get to decide what to repeat
    and how much to repeat
  • 1:18 - 1:20
    for your own best understanding.
  • 1:21 - 1:23
That's one of the reasons why
    we think we can offer
  • 1:23 - 1:26
a full course in Development Economics
  • 1:26 - 1:28
    and in other subjects
in less than half the time.
  • 1:28 - 1:30
So we are really excited about
  • 1:30 - 1:33
    all of the opportunities
    from online education.
  • 1:33 - 1:35
Remember: we want you to participate.
  • 1:35 - 1:40
Our model is: learn, teach and share.
    Tyler?
  • 1:40 - 1:43
Hi, this is Tyler Cowen. Thank you Alex.
  • 1:43 - 1:46
Economics really isn't a dismal science
  • 1:46 - 1:50
    We firmly believe that
    Economic Development is possible
  • 1:50 - 1:51
    We see Economic development
  • 1:51 - 1:54
also coming to the sector of Education
  • 1:54 - 1:56
    and we want to be
on the right side of history:
  • 1:56 - 1:59
    that means short, easy-to-use videos...
  • 1:59 - 2:01
    it means time-shiftable content...
  • 2:01 - 2:04
    and most of all
    it means your participation
  • 2:04 - 2:06
You can add in and contribute material
  • 2:06 - 2:09
We would love if you'd get interested
in making some videos for us.
  • 2:09 - 2:11
    Please contact us.
  • 2:11 - 2:14
    For Alex and I
    Marginal Revolution University
  • 2:14 - 2:16
is really a dream come true.
  • 2:16 - 2:18
    Please just remember our model:
  • 2:18 - 2:20
    Learn, Teach and Share.
