Hello, my name is Icha

I work at the YAKKUM
(Christian Foundation for Public Health)

in Yogyakarta

YAKKUM Rehabilitation Center is

A social institution

Which works for differently
abled people

In essence, we carry out

Activities towards that

And also trainings

So that children with disabilities
can be independent

economically

and in their daily activities

For me,

at the YAKKUM Center

I focus on the education of
children with disabilities

We currently accommodate children

with cerebral palsy

who are rejected in SLBs
(School for disabilities people)

for various reasons, so

Besides education, we fight

For for the rights of

children with cerebral palsy

and Establishment of inclusive schools

In Yogyakarta

Because the Law about

inclusive education is very clear

But in reality

The implementation is still

very less

Where there are still
many schools

Which reject differently abled children

for various reasons

Because the teachers

in the inclusive school

are also still very dependent

on the special education teachers

So, our focus is

to train existing

teachers in public schools

to no longer depend on

special educators

and can provide adequate services

for special needs children
who attend there

My hope in the future is

that the community will care more

for children with disabilities

Differently abled children

can also be empowered

like normal children

They only need to be given a chance

So that they can develop

up to their potentials

then also for the government

I hope for the future

it does not only enact laws

about inclusive education

but it also increases
the capacity of the teachers

the inclusive education process
