2018 Delaware Teacher of the Year Jinni Forcucci is no stranger to pivotal classroom realizations. In this impassioned Talk she describes two moments when brave students of color shared their truths and transformed her perspective on herself and her role as an educator. These moments charged her with two driving questions: how can she dismantle the barriers to learning she creates as a white educator, ensuring that race doesn't dictate a child's education? And how do we hold space in the classroom for those whose voices have been systemically silenced? Because as her students taught her, while truth isn't always comfortable, it is necessary.
