Gloria Spindle – Peng! Collective: Intelexit

  • Not Synced
Now I am very happy to have you all here
  • Not Synced
for the next talk on a really important topic.
  • Not Synced
And we all called last year for
  • Not Synced
more creative campaigns on all our issues,
  • Not Synced
that we talk about here at congress.
  • Not Synced
And so the Peng! Collective thought about a
  • Not Synced
really creative campaign that also got a lot of
  • Not Synced
    attention in the last year.
  • Not Synced
And because they call for all
  • Not Synced
the intelligence officers to really exit
  • Not Synced
their careers and to find some other
  • Not Synced
more valuable service to our society,
  • Not Synced
I'm very honoured to introduce to you
  • Not Synced
    Gloria Spindle to you,
  • Not Synced
who is a former Google nest employee,
  • Not Synced
-You might remember that great campaign-
  • Not Synced
and will now present the "Intelexit" to you.
  • Not Synced
    Thank you! Your Applause!
  • Not Synced
    applause
  • Not Synced
    Gloria: Hello!
  • Not Synced
And hello to all the live streaming people out there as well.
  • Not Synced
Blubb blubb we can see you!
  • Not Synced
I hear they're a lot maybe more than
  • Not Synced
    what's in this room.
  • Not Synced
    All the lights are dimming.
  • Not Synced
Okay, so! I don't know if anyone else
  • Not Synced
is as interested in the parts
  • Not Synced
of the Snowdon documents as I am,
  • Not Synced
which are the kind of little cultural titbits
  • Not Synced
that you find that give you a sense of
  • Not Synced
what it's like to be within the secret service.
  • Not Synced
I'm really kind of fascinated by this particular gentleman.
  • Not Synced
The SIGINT Philosopher, who was a columnist
  • Not Synced
for the NSA on internal news letter
  • Not Synced
and he is really quite creative
  • Not Synced
and he writes a lot of pieces
  • Not Synced
of the ethical quandaries of working
  • Not Synced
    in the secret services.
  • Not Synced
And most of them end with just like:
  • Not Synced
"You should just like keep your head down
  • Not Synced
and you should just keep doing what you're
  • Not Synced
    supposed to be doing,
  • Not Synced
'cause that's the best way to go ahead
  • Not Synced
    and protect your county."
  • Not Synced
So this quote is really the kind of crux
  • Not Synced
of what Intelexit Initiative is founded on.
  • Not Synced
We recognize that people who are working
  • Not Synced
in the secret services and I'm sure
  • Not Synced
some of you in the audience tonight
  • Not Synced
are working in the secret services
  • Not Synced
    -pretty certain disgruntled, maybe unhappy,
  • Not Synced
    maybe ethically confused people working
  • Not Synced
in spy agencies, maybe you're just a contractor
  • Not Synced
and you feel like: Oh I'm not so involved,
  • Not Synced
but I still feel like I have blood on my hands. -
  • Not Synced
And those are the people that Intelexit is talking to.
  • Not Synced
That was like have a clap.. I mean come on, people!
  • Not Synced
    applause
  • Not Synced
    Thank you! Thank you! Jesus!
  • Not Synced
    Don't be afraid of clapping!
  • Not Synced
So those are the people that Intelexit
  • Not Synced
    is really talking to.
  • Not Synced
And we wanted to reach out to those people,
  • Not Synced
'cause there hasn't been a campaign yet
  • Not Synced
    that is actually recognized,
  • Not Synced
    that they are humans working,
  • Not Synced
    thousands and thousands of people
  • Not Synced
going every day to their surveillance jobs,
  • Not Synced
    operating drones
  • Not Synced
and even the people who are just
  • Not Synced
answering emails or you know pushing paper,
  • Not Synced
    running the photocopy machine,
  • Not Synced
    if they even have those.
  • Not Synced
-Who knows what they have in there-
  • Not Synced
    Those People,
  • Not Synced
    they are people who obviously
  • Not Synced
    have ethical issues about working
  • Not Synced
    in this systems
  • Not Synced
and feel responsible for mass surveillance,
  • Not Synced
drone warfare and the slow maybe fast
  • Not Synced
degradation of democracy as we know it.
  • Not Synced
    So, introducing Intelexit!
  • Not Synced
    applausechuckle
  • Not Synced
    So what Intelexit does is
  • Not Synced
    it's an initiative, civil initiative
  • Not Synced
grounded in the idea that we need to find a way
  • Not Synced
to support people who want to leave
  • Not Synced
their jobs at the secret services
  • Not Synced
and we need to normalize the idea of quitting.
  • Not Synced
    applause
  • Not Synced
Because actually it's a very just and
  • Not Synced
    sometimes honourable thing to do,
  • Not Synced
just to follow your ethics and
  • Not Synced
    give up your job,
  • Not Synced
if you don't feel like you're contributing
  • Not Synced
to society in a good way.
  • Not Synced
    So that why Intelexit pitch.
  • Not Synced
    Some of you might know:
  • Not Synced
I'm from Peng! as I was introduce earlier
  • Not Synced
and we are known for our hoax
  • Not Synced
and our media hacks and our culture jamming.
  • Not Synced
So intelexit is been a really, really interesting campaign for us
  • Not Synced
and I explain it as I go.
  • Not Synced
Because of course you see it's a bit of
  • Not Synced
    performance and bit of humour
  • Not Synced
but it's also very serious at the same time.
  • Not Synced
So to introduce Peng! to you
  • Not Synced
    for those who don't know.
  • Not Synced
Here we were... this was re:publica
  • Not Synced
    impersonating Google managers and
  • Not Synced
    presenting some really creepy,
  • Not Synced
    data collecting products.
  • Not Synced
A personal drone for daily life, an App
  • Not Synced
that monitors your well being, emotional well being,
  • Not Synced
and matches you with other people who also need a hug
  • Not Synced
and creepy thing about that is most
  • Not Synced
of this distopian visions have now actually
  • Not Synced
come to light and are existing
  • Not Synced
    in the real world today.
  • Not Synced
    Actually people do use drones
  • Not Synced
to follow their children to school.
  • Not Synced
    That's a real thing.
  • Not Synced
So and here we are impersonating the
  • Not Synced
    leading party of Germany
  • Not Synced
and here we are in live television cracking
  • Not Synced
an egg over the head of a presenter of a
  • Not Synced
    very dodgy television program
  • Not Synced
and this was your program to self....
  • Not Synced
provide self help for trolls, sexist trolls
  • Not Synced
    on twitter
  • Not Synced
and this was our self help coach.
  • Not Synced
We had a bot army which was analyse...
  • Not Synced
we had an language analysis happening on twitter
  • Not Synced
and we had an army of 160 bots
  • Not Synced
which were going out and enrolling trolls
  • Not Synced
on twitter into our self help program
  • Not Synced
and sending them nice inspirational videos
  • Not Synced
every day to help cure them.
  • Not Synced
    applause
  • Not Synced
So as you can see we have a...
  • Not Synced
we utilize a range of techs and techniques
  • Not Synced
    in what we call campaigning.
  • Not Synced
    Some people call it art,
  • Not Synced
    some people call it theatre,
  • Not Synced
some people call it a joke,
  • Not Synced
    some call it entertainment,
  • Not Synced
but we see it as campaigning
  • Not Synced
and what we are constantly trying to do
  • Not Synced
    is shift the narrative.
  • Not Synced
We look at... shift the narrative around
  • Not Synced
    various social justice issues.
  • Not Synced
We look at issues we think that really need
  • Not Synced
a kind of different spin happening in the media
  • Not Synced
and we take them and we find a way to
  • Not Synced
reframe them and them we push them out
  • Not Synced
and we hope we get a lot of attention.
  • Not Synced
So we started looking at the issue of
  • Not Synced
    surveillance and the secret services.
  • Not Synced
And well quickly one runs into the obstacle
  • Not Synced
of how do you talk about this.
  • Not Synced
Like we have this clichés of, you know,
  • Not Synced
the eye and, you know, Edward Snowden face
  • Not Synced
and we have this visuals that kind of
  • Not Synced
    don't mean anything any more
  • Not Synced
and everyone really struggles to actually understand
  • Not Synced
what the issue means and how do we talk about
  • Not Synced
the secret services, when they're completely inaccessible to us.
  • Not Synced
So this a photo for example of the regulations
  • Not Synced
for taking photographs at Fort Meade.
  • Not Synced
You see you not really allowed to talk photographs
  • Not Synced
    of the buildings.
  • Not Synced
So if you start with that as a kind of metaphor
  • Not Synced
for the inaccessibility of the secret services
  • Not Synced
    to our general culture.
  • Not Synced
We don't even have visuals for them.
  • Not Synced
We've got like one photo of the NSA
  • Not Synced
    that floats around the internet
  • Not Synced
and just gets repurposed and repurposed.
  • Not Synced
We can't access this people, we can't access
  • Not Synced
their structures, we can't access their information.
  • Not Synced
Yes we have leaks now, but like do we actually
  • Not Synced
    open it up more.
  • Not Synced
And that was the question we kept asking ourself.
  • Not Synced
You've got this issue of intangibility
  • Not Synced
and then you also got the issue that
  • Not Synced
    everything is so secret.
  • Not Synced
I mean even if a Christmas card is send internally
  • Not Synced
in the NSA it's classified as top secret.
  • Not Synced
Then you've got technology which is so complicated
  • Not Synced
the general public can't understand it
  • Not Synced
and it's like all this acronyms and this like
  • Not Synced
weird float charts and bad design
  • Not Synced
    and it's just really complicated.
  • Not Synced
And then of course there is fear.
  • Not Synced
And Fear is really crippling for activists
  • Not Synced
like ourselfs, for society. It is like really difficult.
  • Not Synced
We don't want to press this issue.
  • Not Synced
We don't want to step into it,
  • Not Synced
because it's scary, because once you step
  • Not Synced
into it, it means that you are a target of course.
  • Not Synced
And all finally enough fear is also the way
  • Not Synced
    the narrative is often shaped.
  • Not Synced
What we use, when we trying to rise awareness
  • Not Synced
about it. We make people afraid.
  • Not Synced
We, know you, we talk about this invisible,
  • Not Synced
dark danger surveillance creeping in on us.
  • Not Synced
None knows, if they are watch or not.
  • Not Synced
And this is we think a narrative that really
  • Not Synced
    needs to be shifted.
  • Not Synced
So we wanted to find a way to bring hope,
  • Not Synced
to bring a positive image to this narrative
  • Not Synced
and also to bring it down to humans
  • Not Synced
like not to talk about technology,
  • Not Synced
not to talk about this hard and complex systems
  • Not Synced
but to talk about the people
  • Not Synced
and talk to the people who are upholding
  • Not Synced
    this structures.
  • Not Synced
So this is what we came up with:
  • Not Synced
Right now thousands of people work in the shadow
  • Not Synced
    of the intelligence community.
  • Not Synced
    They don't ask questions.
  • Not Synced
    They follow orders.
  • Not Synced
    Keep their head down,
  • Not Synced
    do their work,
  • Not Synced
but what happens, when you see something
  • Not Synced
    you can't forget?
  • Not Synced
And you realize that the system you are
  • Not Synced
caught up is shipping away our democracy
  • Not Synced
    every hour, every day.
  • Not Synced
    You feel stuck,
  • Not Synced
    overwhelmed.
  • Not Synced
Some people have already made the decision
  • Not Synced
    to leave.
  • Not Synced
Others are thinking about it every day.
  • Not Synced
Intelexit helps people break free from the
  • Not Synced
    intelligence community
  • Not Synced
    and build a new life.
  • Not Synced
Expose yourself within the system you
  • Not Synced
openly end up being forced out of the system.
  • Not Synced
I remember confronting my immediate supervisor
  • Not Synced
the number 3 person: What are we doing?
  • Not Synced
    We are violating the constitution!
  • Not Synced
Many secret service employees are disillusioned.
  • Not Synced
    Why are we taking equipment
  • Not Synced
-it is traditionally for foreign facing, outward facing-
  • Not Synced
and we're now instrumenting our networks
  • Not Synced
within the united states of America?
  • Not Synced
If you're surveilling the population you're
    all on the same side.
  • Not Synced
Right? You want all the data and you want
talk to people who have the most data.
  • Not Synced
So NSA is a nexus of surveillance for the
    world.
  • Not Synced
It's what ever you get away with.
  • Not Synced
That was part of the "game".
  • Not Synced
And what ever would serve as of "national
    security".
  • Not Synced
When one is forced to act against one's
    moral view, he can experience
  • Not Synced
extreme levels of what we call cognitive
    dissonance.
  • Not Synced
"Ich hatte damals keine Hilfe. Ich hab 10 Jahre gebraucht um zu erkennen"
  • Not Synced
"Wofür ich bei der Staatssicherheit verantwortlich gewesen bin."
  • Not Synced
    I was radioactive because
I'm questioning what are we doing.
  • Not Synced
    Where do you then go?
  • Not Synced
Where do you recreate your life?
  • Not Synced
What Intelexit does is help individuals
  • Not Synced
transition from the world on the inside
  • Not Synced
to the world on the outside.
  • Not Synced
"Wissen sie dieser Intelexit Verein ist
    wirklich eine gute Sache."
  • Not Synced
The more you can move from the inside
    to the outside,
  • Not Synced
the better you'll integrate into the real
    world.
  • Not Synced
What is really great about Intelexit is
  • Not Synced
that it helps people to confront their fears.
  • Not Synced
    So take it from me:
  • Not Synced
If you're looking to get out,
  • Not Synced
    try Intelexit!
  • Not Synced
    roaring applause
  • Not Synced
I was really impressed by Bruce Schneier there.
  • Not Synced
Bruce Schneier is just amazing without end.
  • Not Synced
I mean who knew he had those talents.
  • Not Synced
Someone take him to acting school.
  • Not Synced
    Like, it's amazing!
  • Not Synced
Okay, so then we made the video,
  • Not Synced
but of course we knew, we know that the
people that we are talking to
  • Not Synced
the spies, are some of the most introverted
    people in the world.
  • Not Synced
And probably some of them the people that
  • Not Synced
most stuck in a filter bubble in the world.
  • Not Synced
So we knew we had to kind of take our preach
    further
  • Not Synced
and we had to go to where they are.
  • Not Synced
So you know we thought big and we pretended
  • Not Synced
we just forgot about that we didn't really
    have a budget.
  • Not Synced
And so we just hired a van. 'Cause that's what you do.
  • Not Synced
So we just hired this van and drove around
  • Not Synced
Fort Meade and the NSA buildings,
  • Not Synced
tried as much as we could to get as close
  • Not Synced
to them as possible as we could.
  • Not Synced
    applause
  • Not Synced
So this is outside Lockheed Martin
  • Not Synced
    on a national business parkway.
  • Not Synced
The main area of all the NSA contractors_ress
  • Not Synced
and they are really best friend with the NSA
  • Not Synced
and now they started making drones as well.
  • Not Synced
It's supplying technology for the NSA
  • Not Synced
and the military and what ever.
  • Not Synced
so that was parked outside there
  • Not Synced
giving them a like strong moral push
  • Not Synced
    with the slogan.
  • Not Synced
And then we went to one of the most popular
  • Not Synced
cafes were NSA contractors sit for lunch.
  • Not Synced
This café JOE. So we parked out there
  • Not Synced
    during lunch time as well.
  • Not Synced
    applause
  • Not Synced
And then of course, because you can't talk
  • Not Synced
about the secret service in one country
  • Not Synced
without talking about the other ones,
  • Not Synced
'cause they are all in bed with each other,
  • Not Synced
we of course had to go to the UK as well.
  • Not Synced
So here we are outside the "Donut" and
  • Not Synced
this is us trying... to be honest
    laughing
  • Not Synced
that's trying to hand out flyer, brochures
  • Not Synced
to the people. You know this was our plan.
  • Not Synced
You know we wanted to hand out to the
  • Not Synced
employees on their way to work.
  • Not Synced
And they were just like.. were like been briefed..
  • Not Synced
or I don't know. They were just like ignoring us.
  • Not Synced
And also maybe we didn't brief that guy
  • Not Synced
very well on how to dress as a Intelexit
    ambassador.
  • Not Synced
And then we hit all the... laughing
  • Not Synced
    applause
  • Not Synced
This is outside the Dagger Complex in Germany.
  • Not Synced
One of the let alone spots for the NSA
  • Not Synced
where they kind of have a central house
  • Not Synced
for the signals gathering in Europe,
  • Not Synced
being written about in the Spiegel.
  • Not Synced
Very secret, very difficult to get there as well.
  • Not Synced
And there we are a the area from the other side.
  • Not Synced
And that is the antenna from the Dagger Complex.
  • Not Synced
And then we also went to Wiesbaden with is
  • Not Synced
the traditional home of the US military in
  • Not Synced
    Germany.
  • Not Synced
    And then Clay Kaserne Building!
  • Not Synced
This is where supposedly forth coming
  • Not Synced
is going to be NSA biggest buildings
  • Not Synced
and operations in Europe also all very secret.
  • Not Synced
    None knows what's going on.
  • Not Synced
And then we when to the US Embassy in Berlin.
  • Not Synced
And this for non German speakers just says:
  • Not Synced
    "Enough with paranoia!"
  • Not Synced
This is why we had the like data stick
    pineapple on there.
  • Not Synced
"We helping you to get out of the secret services!"
  • Not Synced
And then we went to the German secret
    services as well.
  • Not Synced
This is there new office block,
    the BundesNachrichtenDienst
  • Not Synced
and we also went to the old office
    just in case.
  • Not Synced
And then we went to... -we do a lot in a week-
  • Not Synced
we went to the Verfassungsschutz which is
  • Not Synced
    the domestic intelligence in Germany.
  • Not Synced
And this is located in Köln and to remind
  • Not Synced
them about -so the Verfassungsschutz actually
stands for roughly translated in english is:
  • Not Synced
    Protectors of the constitution-
  • Not Synced
and in order to remind them about
    the constitution
  • Not Synced
we stuck the constitution on their wall there.
  • Not Synced
    And then
  • Not Synced
    applause
  • Not Synced
And then there they are ripping it up.
  • Not Synced
This is like a dream we had for a very long time
  • Not Synced
and finally we have realized it. laughing
  • Not Synced
And then we thought we take a bigger step...
  • Not Synced
    music
  • Not Synced
    applause
  • Not Synced
    According to sources, intelexit website
  • Not Synced
was block on the internal network
  • Not Synced
    after that drop.
  • Not Synced
So that was our week and that was Intelexit.
  • Not Synced
And I just want to share a few learnings
  • Not Synced
with you, because it was very
  • Not Synced
    interesting campaign for us
  • Not Synced
and one of a kind really.
  • Not Synced
So I think the first thing on a very kind of
  • Not Synced
just basic level is that it is possible
  • Not Synced
to talk about this issue without creating fear,
  • Not Synced
    without making everyone, you know,
  • Not Synced
    really worried about their information
  • Not Synced
and the data and their just general feeling
  • Not Synced
    of well-being.
  • Not Synced
There is a way of kind of shift the narrative
  • Not Synced
and look more at the outside and stop
  • Not Synced
    holding the defences.
  • Not Synced
Okay, then second thing is that
  • Not Synced
they are just as good in faking as we are.
  • Not Synced
This was the responds from the GCHQ to a
  • Not Synced
journalist question for an article about
  • Not Synced
    intelexit, which is amazing,
  • Not Synced
because we basically just said that they do
  • Not Synced
anything unlawful and they actively encourage
  • Not Synced
staff to discuss any concerns that they have
  • Not Synced
inside, which we all know it's not true.
  • Not Synced
And they also they really pride themselfs
  • Not Synced
on the structures they have in place to
  • Not Synced
    support this.
  • Not Synced
So I think this was the biggest surprise
  • Not Synced
    for us.
  • Not Synced
Like we are always dealing in this kind of
  • Not Synced
projecting of either utopias or distopias
  • Not Synced
    out into the world
  • Not Synced
and sometimes when you have a vision
  • Not Synced
    and you project something out,
  • Not Synced
actually it kind of turns into a reality.
  • Not Synced
    And that's what happened.
  • Not Synced
You know, we played this line of
  • Not Synced
yes it's sort of a fake, but at the same time
  • Not Synced
we really mean what we putting out here.
  • Not Synced
Yes, we actually think there should be an
  • Not Synced
    Intelexit Foundation created.
  • Not Synced
And there should be loads of money
  • Not Synced
flowing in for people who want to get out.
  • Not Synced
And there should be a civil way to exit.
  • Not Synced
    applause
  • Not Synced
But, you know, what can we do?
  • Not Synced
We're just like a small art collective
  • Not Synced
    in Berlin. You know.
  • Not Synced
We can make a big wave, but we're
  • Not Synced
    quite limited on our resources.
  • Not Synced
    But actually we got responses,
  • Not Synced
we got people coming to us
  • Not Synced
and that was a real surprise
  • Not Synced
and we realised we have a lot of responsibility, too.
  • Not Synced
And so, this is the other learning that
  • Not Synced
there is no clear line between insanity
  • Not Synced
    and reality.
  • Not Synced
So you kind of constantly, when you get
  • Not Synced
    people contacting you this like,
  • Not Synced
of course you get people who think that
  • Not Synced
they are pursued by the CIA
  • Not Synced
or think that they used to work at the secret service
  • Not Synced
and then there is people who talk to aliens
  • Not Synced
    and these kinds of things
  • Not Synced
and then get people with really legitimate stories
  • Not Synced
and there is a kind of constant balance
  • Not Synced
and we really had to learn how to
  • Not Synced
    assess this.
  • Not Synced
And luckily we had amazing support from
  • Not Synced
    investigative journalists, particularly from
  • Not Synced
    whistle-blower platform who have experience
  • Not Synced
    with this and help us.
  • Not Synced
But that just part of the game.
  • Not Synced
Okay, I think this is our other learning,
  • Not Synced
    that we realised, that
  • Not Synced
at the end of this week,
  • Not Synced
there really is a need for this.
  • Not Synced
There is a need to respond to kind of
  • Not Synced
    discourse that's out there
  • Not Synced
    and create a new one
  • Not Synced
and then there is also really a need to
  • Not Synced
provide this kind of support and
  • Not Synced
actually reach out to people who are
  • Not Synced
trapped in these structures and want to get out.
  • Not Synced
So we've been working really hard and trying
  • Not Synced
to build up networks of support with people
  • Not Synced
    who have legal skills,
  • Not Synced
    who have psychological training
  • Not Synced
and who can also help, if people want to
  • Not Synced
get out and leak or blow the whistle,
  • Not Synced
    who can help with that.
  • Not Synced
So we kind of at the moment when people come
  • Not Synced
we are trying to direct them to the right resources.
  • Not Synced
    Because of cause we're not
  • Not Synced
    a whistle blowing platform.
  • Not Synced
And we are not a legal organisation,
  • Not Synced
so we can't provide a lot of things,
  • Not Synced
but we have good networks and we can try
  • Not Synced
    and connect people with them.
  • Not Synced
    So what's coming next?
  • Not Synced
We are trying to build up our infrastructure
  • Not Synced
so that people can actually a very secure way
  • Not Synced
    to contact us.
  • Not Synced
We are building up this network of support
  • Not Synced
and we want to create a list of future
  • Not Synced
employers for people who actually do leave
  • Not Synced
the secret services so that they can find
  • Not Synced
    places to get jobs afterwards.
  • Not Synced
And we want to continue doing more
  • Not Synced
outreach and more campaigning on this issue
  • Not Synced
and I think that that is our main goal.
  • Not Synced
    applause
  • Not Synced
    That's a safe within a safe,
  • Not Synced
which is now part of our kind of secure
  • Not Synced
    infrastructure in our offices,
  • Not Synced
thanks to the support of very experienced
  • Not Synced
    and knowledgeable expert people
  • Not Synced
who can help us set up the kind of
  • Not Synced
the best way for people to kind of
  • Not Synced
to enter the risk assessment to enter the
  • Not Synced
best means of communicating with us.
  • Not Synced
And then on our outreach plans
  • Not Synced
we really want to create a way to talk to
  • Not Synced
people who're working in the secret services
  • Not Synced
for an every day person in this audience
  • Not Synced
or on the stage just to call up the NSA
  • Not Synced
or the BND or the GCHQ and get through
  • Not Synced
to someone who is sitting in their office
  • Not Synced
on their phone and have a conversation
  • Not Synced
    with them like callcenter-style.
  • Not Synced
You know like: How are you doing today?
  • Not Synced
Can we talk about your job?
  • Not Synced
How do you feel about working at the
  • Not Synced
    secret services?
  • Not Synced
We want to create an anonymous reaching
  • Not Synced
system for someone to call completely
  • Not Synced
anonymously to a set of numbers
  • Not Synced
which we can't reveal the source of
  • Not Synced
and to reach out to these people.
  • Not Synced
So of course we need support and help.
  • Not Synced
And these are all the things you can help us with.
  • Not Synced
If you got skills, we need all kinds of skills,
  • Not Synced
we need skills to build up this call center
  • Not Synced
operation ours, so that people can actually
  • Not Synced
anonymously call and we can have something
  • Not Synced
that is very exciting and we can premier at
  • Not Synced
    events.
  • Not Synced
So that you can actually have
  • Not Synced
call center operations on stage calling up
  • Not Synced
    doing it live.
  • Not Synced
And then we also need people who will
  • Not Synced
    translate our materials.
  • Not Synced
We would like to get them into other
  • Not Synced
languages, we only have English and German atm.
  • Not Synced
And we would like to kind of reach out more
  • Not Synced
    internationally.
  • Not Synced
    And if you've got connections,
  • Not Synced
    well that's as always good,
  • Not Synced
if you've got people who are lawyers,
  • Not Synced
who have experience working with people
  • Not Synced
who are either in trauma or
  • Not Synced
people who have been in the secret service
  • Not Synced
    for example.
  • Not Synced
    Legal skills, psychological skills,
  • Not Synced
journalists - we need all those kinds of
  • Not Synced
    connections in different jurisdictions.
  • Not Synced
We are pretty well set up in Berlin and
  • Not Synced
in Germany, but we really need help
  • Not Synced
in the UK and the US as well for now.
  • Not Synced
And then if you've got ideas for outreach
  • Not Synced
for new actions we are also really open
  • Not Synced
    to hearing those.
  • Not Synced
We've got the call center idea at the moment.
  • Not Synced
    Calling up the spies.
  • Not Synced
We want new ideas and if you know people
  • Not Synced
who are working there just have that
  • Not Synced
    conversation with them.
  • Not Synced
Just start a conversation about you know,
  • Not Synced
    ethics of the workplace.
  • Not Synced
    applause
  • Not Synced
    And now... the big question...
  • Not Synced
And I even do that to say how important it is.
  • Not Synced
If you like Peng!s work we are not ashamed
  • Not Synced
any more. We were ashamed for a long time
  • Not Synced
    to ask for money,
  • Not Synced
but we're not ashamed any more.
  • Not Synced
We live of idealism alone, people,
  • Not Synced
and we need help to keep our actions going!
  • Not Synced
This year I think we did 6 actions or something
  • Not Synced
really large campaigns and we need help to
  • Not Synced
    kind of support our infrastructure,
  • Not Synced
    to support our staff,
  • Not Synced
to support our projects more than anything,
  • Not Synced
so that we can keep on doing what we are doing.
  • Not Synced
So we've developed a way for you to become
  • Not Synced
a monkey donator which I highly recommend
  • Not Synced
great feelings of positivity and love will
  • Not Synced
travel with you for many years after
  • Not Synced
    you have done this.
  • Not Synced
    Mother Theresa said:
  • Not Synced
If you can't feed a hundred penguins,
  • Not Synced
    then just feed one."
  • Not Synced
    So, feed one of us!
  • Not Synced
Even if it's just like the pinky finger of
  • Not Synced
one of us and sign up for year to
  • Not Synced
keep seeing great action coming out
  • Not Synced
    from Peng!
  • Not Synced
    and that's me.
  • Not Synced
And we've got one more thing,
  • Not Synced
    surprise!
  • Not Synced
So we have one other way to donate,
  • Not Synced
which is that you can buy one of the
  • Not Synced
    awesome Intelexit T-shirts,
  • Not Synced
which Paul is gonna come here and model
  • Not Synced
    for us quickly.
  • Not Synced
    laughingapplause
  • Not Synced
And there's a run for your life!
  • Not Synced
That's the kind of lame one...
  • Not Synced
    but these ones are cool!
  • Not Synced
    Thank you!
  • Not Synced
    Are we meeting afterwards?
  • Not Synced
I think we're going to have...
  • Not Synced
We don't have time for questions
  • Not Synced
    and answers now.
  • Not Synced
But we really want to get feedback
  • Not Synced
    from people.
  • Not Synced
I think there is an IRC Chat or Radio happening,
  • Not Synced
but if people want to come we're going
  • Not Synced
    to meet.
  • Not Synced
    Where are we meeting?
  • Not Synced
    In front!
  • Not Synced
    laughing
  • Not Synced
    Of this huge hall.
  • Not Synced
Can someone give me a location,
  • Not Synced
    I only got here today...
  • Not Synced
Can you give us a location?
  • Not Synced
Herald: Okay, So it's sensable to meet
  • Not Synced
at the tea tent I suppose.
  • Not Synced
    Gloria: Tea tent!
  • Not Synced
    In 15 minutes!
  • Not Synced
Herald: In front of hall 2, there is a big tea tent,
  • Not Synced
where you get tea, where you also
  • Not Synced
meet many other people who are working
  • Not Synced
    in this direction therefore, right?
  • Not Synced
    Gloria: Yes!
  • Not Synced
Herald: And I have one question still,
  • Not Synced
because you told we can support on the Internet
  • Not Synced
is there also a way to donate anonymously?
  • Not Synced
Gloria: Well, you can donate with bitcoin
  • Not Synced
or you can just give us cash.
  • Not Synced
Herald: Everybody, big pills of cash,
  • Not Synced
    bring them here!
  • Not Synced
Gloria: Not saying no to cash...
  • Not Synced
    Herald: Thank you, Gloria!
  • Not Synced
Gloria: A, they got a bag!
  • Not Synced
Herald: And there is a bag for cash!
  • Not Synced
    laughing
  • Not Synced
Gloria: You can put it in very anonymously here.
  • Not Synced
    laughing
  • Not Synced
Herald: Bring your blocking for your face
  • Not Synced
if you really want to be anonymous.
  • Not Synced
    Thank you, Gloria!
  • Not Synced
    Everybody who wants to come,
  • Not Synced
please go to the tea tent!
  • Not Synced
    applause
