"First Kiss" by Tim Seibles
-
0:02 - 0:05First Kiss
-
0:05 - 0:07Her mouth
-
0:07 - 0:09fell into my mouth
-
0:09 - 0:14like a summer snow, like a
5th season, like a fresh Eden, -
0:14 - 0:17like Eden when Eve made God
-
0:17 - 0:21whimper with the liquid
tilt of her hips— -
0:21 - 0:24her kiss hurt like that—
-
0:24 - 0:28I mean, it was as if she’d mixed
the sweat of an angel -
0:28 - 0:31with the taste of a tangerine,
-
0:31 - 0:36I swear. My mouth
had been a helmet forever -
0:36 - 0:38greased with secrets, my mouth
-
0:38 - 0:44a dead-end street a little bit
lit by teeth—my heart, a clam -
0:44 - 0:47slammed shut at the bottom of a dark,
-
0:47 - 0:50but her mouth pulled up
like a baby-blue Cadillac -
0:50 - 0:55packed with canaries driven
by a toucan—I swear -
0:55 - 0:59those lips said bright
wings when we kissed, wild -
0:59 - 1:03and precise—as if she were
teaching a seahorse to speak— -
1:03 - 1:09her mouth so careful, chumming
the first vowel from my throat -
1:09 - 1:14until my brain was a piano
banged loud, hammered like that— -
1:14 - 1:19it was like, I swear her tongue
was Saturn’s 7th moon— -
1:19 - 1:24hot like that, hot
and cold and circling, -
1:24 - 1:28circling, turning me
into a glad planet— -
1:28 - 1:30sun on one side, night pouring
-
1:30 - 1:37her slow hand over the other: one fire
flying the kite of another. -
1:37 - 1:43Her kiss, I swear—if the Great
Mother rushed open the moon -
1:43 - 1:47like a gift and you were there
to feel your shadow finally -
1:47 - 1:49unhooked from your wrist.
-
1:49 - 1:51That’d be it, but even sweeter—
-
1:51 - 1:57like a riot of peg-legged priests
on pogo-sticks, up and up, -
1:57 - 2:01this way and this, not
falling but on and on -
2:01 - 2:03like that, badly behaved
-
2:03 - 2:10but holy—I swear! That
kiss: both lips utterly committed -
2:10 - 2:12to the world like a Peace Corps,
-
2:12 - 2:16like a free store, forever and always
-
2:16 - 2:24a new city—no locks, no walls, just
doors—like that, I swear, -
2:24 - 2:26like that.
