Taking a break and Personal Boundaries - Kati Morton Healthy Mind, Healthy Body!

  • 0:00 - 0:01
    Hey Everyone
  • 0:01 - 0:04
Its Kati again, and i'm in Mammoth Lakes, California
  • 0:04 - 0:05
    as you can see.
  • 0:05 - 0:07
The snow, we don't get this down in L.A
  • 0:07 - 0:09
    unfortunately!
  • 0:09 - 0:10
So today I want to talk to you about
  • 0:10 - 0:14
cutting off our internet connection for a little bit
  • 0:14 - 0:16
    and vacationing, so stay tuned.
  • 0:23 - 0:25
So like I said, we need to take
  • 0:25 - 0:26
    a little break sometimes.
  • 0:26 - 0:29
We need to cut off our communication online.
  • 0:29 - 0:31
And I know that sounds bad
  • 0:31 - 0:32
because a lot of us, that's our main outlet
  • 0:32 - 0:34
and I always tell you we need to vent
  • 0:34 - 0:35
we need to talk but sometimes
  • 0:35 - 0:38
its important to (*sigh) breathe and
  • 0:38 - 0:42
take it in because we get so stuck online
  • 0:42 - 0:45
and i'll tell you, to be honest, it was hard for me to do
  • 0:45 - 0:49
I've been offline for four days..
  • 0:49 - 0:53
and we go through this kind of feeling where
  • 0:53 - 0:55
I want to pick up my phone 'oh I should check twitter!'
  • 0:55 - 0:58
NO, I did not because sometimes we have to
  • 0:58 - 0:59
cut away from that so that we can
  • 0:59 - 1:01
interact with real people in our lives.
  • 1:01 - 1:03
You know, like 'in real life' people,
  • 1:03 - 1:04
like our family and our friends
  • 1:04 - 1:06
    and people at school and
  • 1:06 - 1:08
we need to take that time to communicate
  • 1:08 - 1:10
where we're not talking but we're like
  • 1:10 - 1:13
checking emails and 'yeah yeah yeah, aha aha'
  • 1:13 - 1:15
    We're not really listening
  • 1:15 - 1:16
and sometimes we need to take that time
  • 1:16 - 1:18
    to give ourselves a break
  • 1:18 - 1:21
where we don't have to respond to anybody right away.
  • 1:21 - 1:22
    They'll still be there,
  • 1:22 - 1:23
    they'll know.
  • 1:23 - 1:24
    It's okay.
  • 1:24 - 1:26
And it's kind of setting those little healthy boundaries.
  • 1:26 - 1:29
I have videos, my old videos, there's two of them
  • 1:29 - 1:31
'Boundaries 1' and 'Boundaries 2' and I talk about
  • 1:31 - 1:33
    setting healthy boundaries within relationships,
  • 1:33 - 1:35
well this is kind of a boundary for yourself.
  • 1:35 - 1:37
    For your self-care.
  • 1:37 - 1:41
Even myself, I have my fabulous five that I check, all of my sites.
  • 1:41 - 1:43
And I have to take some time for myself, right,
  • 1:43 - 1:46
so that I can keep doing this! Ta da!
  • 1:46 - 1:49
So, I took four days off and the first day or so
  • 1:49 - 1:50
    it was really hard.
  • 1:50 - 1:52
I kept wanting to get online and check things,
  • 1:52 - 1:55
and 'oo, I know there's questions that need to be answered',
  • 1:55 - 1:59
but once I got past that I could finally relax.
  • 1:59 - 2:01
I would lean back but I'd probably fall off this rock
  • 2:01 - 2:02
    that i'm hoisted on to.
  • 2:02 - 2:05
So, it's nice to kind of take a break.
  • 2:05 - 2:07
So, I would encourage all of you
  • 2:07 - 2:09
even if its just for one afternoon,
  • 2:09 - 2:12
and you kind of like want to check your phone.
  • 2:12 - 2:14
Try to give yourself a little break.
  • 2:14 - 2:15
    Take some time.
  • 2:15 - 2:16
    Do some self-care.
  • 2:16 - 2:18
Take a bubble bath, paint your nails,
  • 2:18 - 2:21
colour, call that friend you haven't talked to in a while,
  • 2:21 - 2:24
hang out with them, grab a coffee.
  • 2:24 - 2:26
Anything you can do that doesn't create
  • 2:26 - 2:29
too much anxiety but its a nice getaway.
  • 2:29 - 2:30
    Right? Do something different.
  • 2:30 - 2:32
We have to change up what we're doing to
  • 2:32 - 2:34
continue to take care of ourselves,
  • 2:34 - 2:36
and we can't do that when we're online everyday
  • 2:36 - 2:37
because what that usually means is,
  • 2:37 - 2:41
when we're online, we're like inside, on the computer
  • 2:41 - 2:44
you know, sitting down versus being out talking to people.
  • 2:44 - 2:46
    Being our wonderful selves, right?
  • 2:46 - 2:48
And we're trying to work on a healthy mind,
  • 2:48 - 2:49
    a healthy body.
  • 2:49 - 2:51
But we have to put it into action.
  • 2:51 - 2:52
    We have to show people.
  • 2:52 - 2:53
People love us, people care about us,
  • 2:53 - 2:55
and they probably miss the communication.
  • 2:55 - 2:57
    So take some time away.
  • 2:57 - 2:58
Thats my task and my little
  • 2:58 - 3:00
homework assignment if you can do something
  • 3:00 - 3:01
    this week.
  • 3:01 - 3:02
Take a couple of hours where you're
  • 3:02 - 3:04
    not reachable....
  • 3:04 - 3:04
    *gasp!!
  • 3:04 - 3:06
    Horrible things could happen,
  • 3:06 - 3:06
    but they won't.
  • 3:06 - 3:07
It's only a couple of hours.
  • 3:07 - 3:09
It'll be nice for you to not to be reachable.
  • 3:09 - 3:12
And the weird thing is, I know this is showing my age,
  • 3:12 - 3:15
I grew up in a time without cell phones.
  • 3:16 - 3:17
    We actually had car phones.
  • 3:17 - 3:20
Like in the car, a phone, like a phone
  • 3:20 - 3:22
from your home. So ghetto now.
  • 3:22 - 3:25
But, at the time, you were unreachable,
  • 3:25 - 3:27
    and nothing bad happened.
  • 3:27 - 3:29
    We got along just fine.
  • 3:29 - 3:30
    I didn't even have email.
  • 3:30 - 3:31
    We didn't have twitter,
  • 3:31 - 3:32
    none of that existed and
  • 3:32 - 3:33
    everything was just fine.
  • 3:33 - 3:35
So lets try to take a little break
  • 3:35 - 3:37
so we can all take our little vacation right,
  • 3:37 - 3:39
we can get out, we can see people,
  • 3:39 - 3:41
we can reconnect because I'll tell you what
  • 3:41 - 3:42
    It feels so good.
  • 3:42 - 3:44
And it's nice to reconnect with the people
  • 3:44 - 3:45
in our lives that love us most,
  • 3:45 - 3:47
    who care about us most,
  • 3:47 - 3:49
because that's what life's all about, right?
  • 3:49 - 3:50
    It's our relationships.
  • 3:50 - 3:51
    And keep checking back,
  • 3:51 - 3:53
    I'll keep putting out videos.
  • 3:53 - 3:54
I just wanted to talk to you all
  • 3:54 - 3:55
as I was on my vacation in Mammoth.
  • 3:55 - 3:57
Don't forget to subscribe to my channel
  • 3:57 - 3:59
because I put out videos every monday,
  • 3:59 - 4:01
and sometimes in the middle of the week,
  • 4:01 - 4:02
    and then you'll get notified.
  • 4:02 - 4:03
    And don't worry,
  • 4:03 - 4:04
    I'm coming online tomorrow.
  • 4:04 - 4:07
    So i'll be back and....
  • 4:07 - 4:08
I'm trying to think if there's anything else,
  • 4:08 - 4:10
oh, don't forget to check out for my workbook
  • 4:10 - 4:12
on my website if you haven't already.
  • 4:12 - 4:12
    It's free.
  • 4:12 - 4:14
You can download it on there and
  • 4:14 - 4:15
it can help you get started
  • 4:15 - 4:17
thinking about who I am and
  • 4:17 - 4:18
    what's important to me.
  • 4:18 - 4:19
So hop on and do that
  • 4:19 - 4:21
    and we'll keep working together
  • 4:21 - 4:22
    towards a healthy mind and
  • 4:22 - 4:24
    a healthy body.
