Rock n' Roll Ain't Noise Pollution

possibly one of the greatest rock riffs

of all time by the legends AC/DC

let's get to a closeup and check out

the left-hand fingering first up

Okay, we are starting off here with

the first finger in the first fret

of the third string and we'll also

be playing the open B string

so we get a little interval of

a third there and possibly playing the

thickest E string but very heavily muted

then the first finger is gonna move up

and make a little bar on the second fret

just playing the second

and third strings again

We might play a little of the

open A string at this point as well

I'll talk about the fingerpicking part

a bit more in a second

then we've got second and third fingers

going down the second finger in

the third fret and third finger

on the fourth fret of the

third string ,so we end up with

and then we move back to the little bar

these two are definitely played

with the open A string as well

but it's a little bit muted

second and third go back on

also played with the deadend open A

then

the second finger reaching over to

the third fret of the thickest string

with a little bit of a bend not a proper

none of this stuff just a

down to an E

a little open E bar power

so open E string, the thickest string

first finger covering the second fret

of the fifth string and the fourth string

let's go to the main thing

now we get the little riff part

without any bass notes

back with bass note

its an A bass note

and this time, its a bit of a shorter

its the same note, the G

the third fret of the thickest string

but he jumps right up

to the seventh fret

cause you can hear the trial off

the little chord sliding back down there

it's quite a jump to get

the open thickest string

as well is ringing out

so open E, E at the seventh fret

of the fifth string

this is like a power chord

so you get that quite sticky

quite a bit of a jump

just gonna have to do it a few times

get use to the movement

let me play that riff for you one time

nice and slow, just so you can

see the whole riff in context

then well have a look at the picking hand

quite nice to get a bit of

the nice vibrato here

with the second and third fingers

make sure using that kind of

a pivot point there

with the edge of your first finger

that's where you get

especially with two-finger bends

the two-finger kind of heavy vibrato

you get a bit on the A

I think as much on the A on the record

It's mainly

Okay, lets have a look at

the picking hand

yes, I know I've got revolting nails

but I need then for playing guitar

so let's skip over that bit

and get straight to actually

looking at the tune

Now, what we want

is a really good palm mute on

those thickest two strings

cause the first time we play

the low E and the A string

the thickest string

and the fifth string

we want them really heavily muted

cause they're not very loud on the record

in fact, I was kind of debating

if they're there

but I'm pretty sure they're

so we've got first of all

thumb playing the thickest E

fingers one and two plucking

the second and third strings

then it moves to the little A

it moved over to the A string, then

when you're playing

your second and third fingers down

there's no bass note

so it just dies away

kind of muting it a bit with my thumb

actually, thinking about it

and we're back

so thumb and

first and second fingers together

then, when the second and third fingers

go on that time, its with the A bass note

it's kind of a funny note

but it works, you know

thumb, playing that low note

thumb, first and second

playing all at once

second time, there's no bass note

for that little climb up

not that I can hear

it's on the A

thumb and then the big jump

and then the slide

I'm using kind of thumb, one, two

and three

it might be a

it might be a strum

it could just be one, two and three

it's hard to hear exactly what

he's doing

I think that it sounds most likely

he's doing thumb, one, two and three

there on the E chord

slowing down

let's look at the whole thing

a little bit slower

well, there we have it

the song on your own, it's kind of

an open chordy stuff you know

a little bit more riffs to work out

but, it's a really good practice

to learn stuff using your own ears

and not tabs that you find on the interweb
