Why Will You Reject My Jesus? - Geoff Thomas
-
0:00 - 0:02My friend Reg Burrows -
-
0:02 - 0:04he's a pastor.
-
0:04 - 0:05He's retired now.
-
0:05 - 0:07He was shaking hands at the door
-
0:07 - 0:09with people as they
left one Sunday morning -
0:09 - 0:11and an old lady came up to him,
-
0:11 - 0:12and she shook his hand.
-
0:12 - 0:13She said, "Oh, Mr. Burrows,
-
0:13 - 0:17I hope I manage to do enough
-
0:17 - 0:20for God to accept me."
-
0:20 - 0:23Now, it's very helpful to a minister
-
0:23 - 0:25when somebody says something like that
-
0:25 - 0:27because then we can understand
-
0:27 - 0:31just where they are in this journey
-
0:31 - 0:35into a living, saving relationship
-
0:35 - 0:37with Jesus Christ.
-
0:37 - 0:39A remark like that tells us
-
0:39 - 0:42that they haven't understood Christianity.
-
0:42 - 0:44They haven't understood the gospel.
-
0:44 - 0:48They haven't understood grace.
-
0:48 - 0:50They are showing their lostness.
-
0:50 - 0:52They think God's made a contribution,
-
0:52 - 0:56and then we need to make contribution.
-
0:56 - 1:00Then God will accept us.
-
1:00 - 1:03But we are saved
-
1:03 - 1:09by the achievement of someone else;
-
1:09 - 1:11by what that Person did.
-
1:11 - 1:14That's what saves us.
-
1:14 - 1:17We never manage to do enough.
-
1:17 - 1:19We never do.
-
1:19 - 1:22Because of ego and pride
-
1:22 - 1:24and self-pity
-
1:24 - 1:26and all the things that spoil our lives
-
1:26 - 1:27in this world.
-
1:27 - 1:30I've never prayed a sinner's prayer.
-
1:30 - 1:33Never done a zealous action.
-
1:33 - 1:37I need at the end of every day to say,
-
1:37 - 1:40"Sorry, Lord, about today."
-
1:40 - 1:43"Forgive another day, Lord."
-
1:43 - 1:46My best things, I have to say that.
-
1:46 - 1:50We are saved by the
achievement of somebody else, -
1:50 - 1:55who never had to say sorry
at the end of every day. -
1:55 - 1:56The lovely beauty...
-
1:56 - 1:59holy, harmless, undefiled.
-
1:59 - 2:00Separate from sinners.
-
2:00 - 2:02High above the heavens.
-
2:02 - 2:05This is extraordinary life
-
2:05 - 2:07of the man Christ Jesus.
-
2:07 - 2:11The Son of God.
-
2:11 - 2:15Saved by what He did.
-
2:15 - 2:17Christmas comes and then we have
-
2:17 - 2:20"The Sound of Music."
-
2:20 - 2:23All those lovely songs.
-
2:23 - 2:26And Maria in the end,
-
2:26 - 2:32the stern grieving widower - the Captain -
-
2:32 - 2:35he collapses before her
-
2:35 - 2:38and wants to marry her.
-
2:38 - 2:39And she can't get over it.
-
2:39 - 2:41She is just amazed.
-
2:41 - 2:43She's just a simple peasant girl.
-
2:43 - 2:48Got a good voice.
-
2:48 - 2:50There she is.
-
2:50 - 2:52And so she sings then.
-
2:52 - 2:54She's puzzling over why is it
-
2:54 - 2:57that God has allowed this fellow
-
2:57 - 2:59to fall in love with her?
-
2:59 - 3:02And she sings, and you
remember what she sings? -
3:02 - 3:05"Somewhere in my youth or childhood,
-
3:05 - 3:09I must have done something good."
-
3:09 - 3:13That's what she says, doesn't she?
-
3:13 - 3:15I helped an old lady over the road.
-
3:15 - 3:16I was kind to my parents.
-
3:16 - 3:18I wasn't nasty to animals.
-
3:18 - 3:20I was patient with people.
-
3:20 - 3:34God saw all that, so He
gave me this rich dude. -
3:34 - 3:36I have three daughters,
-
3:36 - 3:38and my youngest was born
-
3:38 - 3:42with the silver spoon in her mouth.
-
3:42 - 3:44So it all works out for her.
-
3:44 - 3:49She passes, goes to university,
-
3:49 - 3:51meets Glenn - a lovely fellow.
-
3:51 - 3:54Marries him, gets a job as a teacher.
-
3:54 - 3:57Has three children.
-
3:57 - 3:59She tells me the next thing,
-
3:59 - 4:02I say, how is it that everything
-
4:02 - 4:06seems to happen to you like this?
-
4:06 - 4:07She says,
-
4:07 - 4:10"Somewhere in my youth or childhood,
-
4:10 - 4:13I must have done something good."
-
4:13 - 4:17She knows it's a heresy.
-
4:17 - 4:23And she likes to tease
her old man about it. -
4:23 - 4:26Now the Christian doesn't think like that.
-
4:26 - 4:28We don't think like that at all.
-
4:28 - 4:31The Christian says because of everything
-
4:31 - 4:33that Jesus Christ did,
-
4:33 - 4:35God has blessed me.
-
4:35 - 4:38Oh, what wonderful blessings!
-
4:38 - 4:41I've got Him. His mercies
are new every morning. -
4:41 - 4:44His faithfulness - it's immeasurable.
-
4:44 - 4:48You can't see the east or west of it.
-
4:48 - 4:52How kind, how good, how
patient He is with me! -
4:52 - 4:56He's forgiven all my sins.
-
4:56 - 4:58And so a Christian, you say,
-
4:58 - 5:01a Christian has someone to believe in.
-
5:01 - 5:06We want to believe in
such a Savior, don't we? -
5:06 - 5:08I am trusting Thee, Lord Jesus.
-
5:08 - 5:10Trusting only Thee.
-
5:10 - 5:12Trusting Thee for full salvation,
-
5:12 - 5:15great and free.
-
5:15 - 5:19That's the response to this amazing love.
-
5:19 - 5:23That Jesus had seen the file on us.
-
5:23 - 5:25He'd seen it. He knew.
-
5:25 - 5:26He knew about everything.
-
5:26 - 5:28The things done in darkness.
-
5:28 - 5:29The things that God has veiled
-
5:29 - 5:31from those who knows us best
-
5:31 - 5:32that we're so ashamed of.
-
5:32 - 5:34He still loved us.
-
5:34 - 5:36Still loved us.
-
5:36 - 5:37We're joined to Him
-
5:37 - 5:42by saving faith.
-
5:42 - 5:46Well now, who are you going to believe in?
-
5:46 - 5:51If you say no to my Savior again tonight,
-
5:51 - 5:56who are you going to trust in?
-
5:56 - 5:58It can't be Hollywood,
-
5:58 - 6:01after all the ugly disclosures -
-
6:01 - 6:04really, the foundations have gone there.
-
6:04 - 6:06That's hollow and ugly.
-
6:06 - 6:11Sportsmen?
-
6:11 - 6:12What figures are there?
-
6:12 - 6:16Philosophers? Writers?
-
6:16 - 6:22If you reject my Savior Jesus Christ,
-
6:22 - 6:25who have you got to look into?
-
6:25 - 6:28When you get married;
-
6:28 - 6:31when you get children and they're sick?
-
6:31 - 6:33When you've got bills to pay
-
6:33 - 6:35and you're getting older,
-
6:35 - 6:39and the grandchildren are
quite demanding too, -
6:39 - 6:41and you're getting nearer death.
-
6:41 - 6:43Who have you got?
-
6:43 - 6:44Who do you have?
-
6:44 - 6:47If you say no to Jesus Christ,
-
6:47 - 6:51who have you got?
-
6:51 - 6:54Look, there's this wonderful privilege.
-
6:54 - 6:56A Christian has someone
-
6:56 - 7:00to believe right into, to trust.
-
7:00 - 7:05You can rely on Him completely.
-
7:05 - 7:09I can't understand
-
7:09 - 7:12how anyone can hear this offer
-
7:12 - 7:16of what the Lord will do for you tonight
-
7:16 - 7:21and go away saying no.
-
7:21 - 7:25How can you do that?
-
7:25 - 7:26When He's brought you here
-
7:26 - 7:27and He's telling you
-
7:27 - 7:30of these wonderful benefits.
-
7:30 - 7:34These wonderful blessings and privileges.
