Is There Any Possibility That I Might Be Lost? - Tim Conway

  • 0:01 - 0:07
    I know your works.
  • 0:07 - 0:13
You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead.
  • 0:13 - 0:16
    Literally, this reads:
  • 0:16 - 0:19
    You have a name
  • 0:19 - 0:21
    that you are alive.
  • 0:21 - 0:23
    You have a name.
  • 0:23 - 0:26
But the name you have isn't accurate.
  • 0:26 - 0:28
    That's what Jesus is saying.
  • 0:28 - 0:29
    You have a name.
  • 0:29 - 0:31
    You have a reputation.
  • 0:31 - 0:35
But what is true does not square with that reputation.
  • 0:35 - 0:38
Now brethren, I want you to just
  • 0:38 - 0:40
    feel the impact of this.
  • 0:40 - 0:44
    These people have souls.
  • 0:44 - 0:47
    You have a soul.
  • 0:47 - 0:52
Isn't it amazing how flippant and trivial people are?
  • 0:52 - 0:54
Isn't it amazing that when you come to people
  • 0:54 - 0:56
with the Word of God, and you say,
  • 0:56 - 0:59
"Sir, m'am, your life does not line up
  • 0:59 - 1:01
    with the Word of God."
  • 1:01 - 1:05
How trivializing people are with regard to their soul.
  • 1:05 - 1:07
    "Oh, well, I think this."
  • 1:07 - 1:09
"Yes, but God's Word says this."
  • 1:09 - 1:12
"Yeah, but I don't believe that."
  • 1:12 - 1:13
    Isn't it amazing!
  • 1:13 - 1:15
I mean people will look straight in the face
  • 1:15 - 1:17
of God's Word, and their lives don't line up with it,
  • 1:17 - 1:21
and oh well, I just take another name on myself.
  • 1:21 - 1:23
    I call myself a Christian.
  • 1:23 - 1:24
    Yeah, you don't call me one;
  • 1:24 - 1:26
you say that the Bible doesn't say that I'm one,
  • 1:26 - 1:28
but I call myself one and I think I'm ok.
  • 1:28 - 1:32
And they just skip down the street.
  • 1:32 - 1:34
    And it's like,
  • 1:34 - 1:36
do you not realize what you're doing here?
  • 1:36 - 1:38
    This is your soul!
  • 1:38 - 1:41
Jesus came along, and He tries to convince men,
  • 1:41 - 1:44
do you not realize that if you once lose your soul...
  • 1:44 - 1:46
I mean, what would a man in hell give
  • 1:46 - 1:48
    in exchange for his soul?
  • 1:48 - 1:50
    Everything.
  • 1:50 - 1:52
    Everything.
  • 1:52 - 1:54
Brethren, these are souls on the line.
  • 1:54 - 1:56
Even if you gain the whole world, what is that,
  • 1:56 - 1:58
compared to the value of your soul?
  • 1:58 - 2:00
Jesus is threatening to come against
  • 2:00 - 2:03
this church at Sardis, because they're living
  • 2:03 - 2:05
behind a name that isn't real.
  • 2:05 - 2:07
And is that true of anyone here?
  • 2:07 - 2:12
Brethren, it is so easy for us to give ourselves names.
  • 2:12 - 2:15
People in this world do it all the time.
  • 2:15 - 2:16
    They give themselves a name,
  • 2:16 - 2:19
and then they think that that name is going to somehow protect them.
  • 2:19 - 2:21
They think because they call themselves by
  • 2:21 - 2:25
a certain title, by a certain description, by a certain name,
  • 2:25 - 2:29
    it therefore makes it true.
  • 2:29 - 2:35
And people's souls, eternal souls, hinge on this.
  • 2:35 - 2:40
    It's like, well, that's what I think...
  • 2:40 - 2:42
I'm not really interested in searching the Word of God
  • 2:42 - 2:44
or really finding out if this is true or not.
  • 2:44 - 2:48
I'm going to take my chances.
  • 2:48 - 2:52
On judgement day, God will just understand.
  • 2:52 - 2:54
I mean, brethren, do you hear people talk like that?
  • 2:54 - 2:55
    I do!
  • 2:55 - 2:56
    It's scary.
  • 2:56 - 3:00
Jesus says to this church at Sardis,
  • 3:00 - 3:02
"I'm going to come against you."
  • 3:02 - 3:04
I have a reputation of being a Christian,
  • 3:04 - 3:07
I go to church. That's what other people call me.
  • 3:07 - 3:10
The thing that matters is not what you call yourself.
  • 3:10 - 3:12
    It's what Christ calls you!
  • 3:12 - 3:16
Do you measure up in His eyes to bearing that name
  • 3:16 - 3:17
    and bearing that reputation?
  • 3:17 - 3:21
And if you're wrong, it's going to cost you everything.
  • 3:21 - 3:23
    This is really serious, folks.
  • 3:23 - 3:25
    This is serious.
  • 3:25 - 3:30
Can you imagine men and women at Sardis?
  • 3:30 - 3:31
    Or here?
  • 3:31 - 3:35
In this room, heading for this state of hopelessness.
  • 3:35 - 3:40
And they've propped up a reputation, a name.
  • 3:40 - 3:43
As I'm trying to think, what can I liken this to?
  • 3:43 - 3:45
It's almost like children playing in the sand,
  • 3:45 - 3:48
and taking some twigs and setting them up,
  • 3:48 - 3:51
and tanks are coming across the field,
  • 3:51 - 3:53
and you know, they've got their little twigs.
  • 3:53 - 3:56
    And they hide behind it.
  • 3:56 - 4:02
And here comes a great big tank.
  • 4:02 - 4:06
It's like, ok, I'm going to be safe behind this.
  • 4:06 - 4:10
I imagine, here comes a storm.
  • 4:10 - 4:13
There's a storm out there on the horizon,
  • 4:13 - 4:17
and it is black with the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty,
  • 4:17 - 4:19
and it is coming against me for my sin,
  • 4:19 - 4:23
and I prop up this little barricade,
  • 4:23 - 4:24
    it's a name,
  • 4:24 - 4:26
    and I hide behind it.
  • 4:26 - 4:27
Ok, I'm going to be safe behind here.
  • 4:27 - 4:31
I think on Wednesday, we heard about some young lady,
  • 4:31 - 4:33
that somebody was preaching the Gospel to,
  • 4:33 - 4:37
and they were talking to about hell,
  • 4:37 - 4:41
and she said, "well, I don't know if I believe in hell."
  • 4:41 - 4:43
    You see what she's saying?
  • 4:43 - 4:46
"Well, if I just basically give myself a name,
  • 4:46 - 4:49
that I'm a disbeliever in hell,
  • 4:49 - 4:51
I'm going to be ok. Right?
  • 4:51 - 4:53
It doesn't matter that the Word of God says
  • 4:53 - 4:55
    that there's a hell.
  • 4:55 - 4:58
I don't believe there is one."
  • 4:58 - 5:02
You think that's a safe place to hide?
  • 5:02 - 5:07
When that storm comes out, what good is her name,
  • 5:07 - 5:10
"I'm a disbeliever in hell" going to do for her?
  • 5:10 - 5:12
That storm is going to sweep that away
  • 5:12 - 5:13
    and crush it.
  • 5:13 - 5:16
Many great houses are going to fall.
  • 5:16 - 5:18
Do you think that little thing is
  • 5:18 - 5:21
going to stand up in that day?
  • 5:21 - 5:26
Brethren, no name will shelter you or me
  • 5:26 - 5:27
    from the coming wrath,
  • 5:27 - 5:30
except the name of Jesus Christ itself.
  • 5:30 - 5:32
    None other.
  • 5:32 - 5:38
Here these folks are at Sardis.
  • 5:38 - 5:43
    They're hiding behind a reputation.
  • 5:43 - 5:46
    I'll say this, brethren.
  • 5:46 - 5:49
    What mercy!
  • 5:49 - 5:52
    You picture it.
  • 5:52 - 5:54
    You have an enemy.
  • 5:54 - 5:57
His troops are coming across the field.
  • 5:57 - 5:59
    The tanks are rolling in.
  • 5:59 - 6:02
    The artillary is rolling in.
  • 6:02 - 6:05
You've got jets coming in fully armed.
  • 6:05 - 6:08
And here you are totally exposed in the field,
  • 6:08 - 6:10
you set up a few twigs and a little rotten cloth
  • 6:10 - 6:12
    and you hide behind it.
  • 6:12 - 6:14
Oh, I'm going to be safe here.
  • 6:14 - 6:16
For the general of those ranks,
  • 6:16 - 6:20
    who you have wronged badly,
  • 6:20 - 6:23
he comes across the enemy lines,
  • 6:23 - 6:26
and not as an enemy right at this point,
  • 6:26 - 6:28
but he comes up beside you,
  • 6:28 - 6:29
    puts his arm around you
  • 6:29 - 6:33
as you stand behind your little tattered barricade,
  • 6:33 - 6:37
    and he says, "Look.
  • 6:37 - 6:39
That barricade isn't going to stand
  • 6:39 - 6:42
    when I come against you.
  • 6:42 - 6:46
Make peace with me now and come join me.
  • 6:46 - 6:48
    And you'll be safe."
  • 6:48 - 6:50
    What mercy!
  • 6:50 - 6:51
That he comes to them like that.
  • 6:51 - 6:54
    Because he's got every right
  • 6:54 - 6:57
just to break forth against them. Right?
  • 6:57 - 7:02
But to come and even bid them,
  • 7:02 - 7:04
    to encourage them, "Come."
  • 7:04 - 7:11
The name you're hiding behind will give way.
  • 7:11 - 7:19
Brethren, some of you, you're holding the title "Christian."
  • 7:19 - 7:22
And I hope you'll wake up like He called Sardis to wake up.
  • 7:22 - 7:24
Because all it is is a name.
  • 7:24 - 7:31
The name of Christian without the reality of Christian,
  • 7:31 - 7:32
it's going to be blown away by
  • 7:32 - 7:37
the wrath of God in an instant.
  • 7:37 - 7:39
    It will not stand.
  • 7:39 - 7:43
    It cannot stand.
  • 7:43 - 7:45
    The most deadly, damning delusion
  • 7:45 - 7:50
is not miscalculating somebody else's reputation.
  • 7:50 - 7:51
    You understand that?
  • 7:51 - 7:55
I mean, I may look at you and I may have
  • 7:55 - 7:58
    a great estimation of you.
  • 7:58 - 8:01
    And be wrong.
  • 8:01 - 8:04
But that in and of itself is not the determining factor.
  • 8:04 - 8:06
Because you may look at me and say,
  • 8:06 - 8:08
"he makes way too much of me,
  • 8:08 - 8:10
I know my real state - it's bad."
  • 8:10 - 8:14
And you may flee to Christ and all is well.
  • 8:14 - 8:16
Or I may look at you and I may think evil of you,
  • 8:16 - 8:18
and I may be dead wrong.
  • 8:18 - 8:20
Really, things are well with you,
  • 8:20 - 8:21
and Christ thinks well with you,
  • 8:21 - 8:23
    and everything is all right.
  • 8:23 - 8:25
I mean, miscalculations about somebody else's
  • 8:25 - 8:28
reputation are not necessarily the final word on the matter.
  • 8:28 - 8:30
But I'll tell you this, brethren,
  • 8:30 - 8:33
when you're wrong about yourself, you're wrong.
  • 8:33 - 8:37
And if you stay on that course, it's damning.
  • 8:37 - 8:39
    It's serious.
  • 8:39 - 8:41
    You need to wake up!
  • 8:41 - 8:43
    That's what He's saying here,
  • 8:43 - 8:44
    "Wake up! Wake up!"
  • 8:44 - 8:47
If you're not willing to repent, if you're not willing to wake up,
  • 8:47 - 8:50
    you should tremble.
  • 8:50 - 8:51
The question of the hour is this:
  • 8:51 - 8:53
    is there any possibility...
  • 8:53 - 8:55
and look, we all need to ask ourselves this.
  • 8:55 - 8:59
I want to ask myself this. I want you to ask yourself this.
  • 8:59 - 9:05
Is there any possibility that you may be dead
  • 9:05 - 9:07
or that you may be dying?
  • 9:07 - 9:11
And that if you continue on your present course,
  • 9:11 - 9:13
    you will lose your soul?
  • 9:13 - 9:15
I'm just asking you to consider,
  • 9:15 - 9:20
is there any possibility that that might be true?
  • 9:20 - 9:24
Is there any of us that bear the name alive and well,
  • 9:24 - 9:26
but if you basically look at the path that you're on
  • 9:26 - 9:28
and you were to draw a line off of it
  • 9:28 - 9:32
and project where it goes, it misses heaven.
  • 9:32 - 9:34
Brethren, that's what we want to think about.
  • 9:34 - 9:39
    You know what Jesus says?
  • 9:39 - 9:45
In Matthew 7, He says that there are few that have life,
  • 9:45 - 9:47
but there are many who don't.
  • 9:47 - 9:49
And He's talking to the religious crowd.
  • 9:49 - 9:52
Look, He comes along and He says this,
  • 9:52 - 9:55
He says, "On that day (on judgement day),
  • 9:55 - 9:57
many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord,
  • 9:57 - 10:00
did we not prophesy in Your name, cast out demons
  • 10:00 - 10:03
in Your name, do many mighty works in Your name?'"
  • 10:03 - 10:05
Do you hear what they're saying?
  • 10:05 - 10:09
Lord, look how alive we were!
  • 10:09 - 10:11
We had the name of "alive."
  • 10:11 - 10:15
We sought out demons, we cast them out.
  • 10:15 - 10:17
We prophesied, we used spiritual gifts,
  • 10:17 - 10:20
we didn't do just a few works in Your name,
  • 10:20 - 10:22
we did many, and they weren't just little works,
  • 10:22 - 10:23
    they were mighty works.
  • 10:23 - 10:26
And we didn't just do them, we did them in Your name.
  • 10:26 - 10:29
And they're saying, "Look how alive we were!"
  • 10:29 - 10:31
"Look at the movement, Lord, look at the movement!"
  • 10:31 - 10:34
And He said, "I never knew you."
  • 10:34 - 10:36
    "You're dead."
  • 10:36 - 10:38
And this is exactly the picture.
  • 10:38 - 10:41
    All sorts of apparent motion
  • 10:41 - 10:42
    that made it look good,
  • 10:42 - 10:43
so much so that these people,
  • 10:43 - 10:47
they're hiding behind the name, right?
  • 10:47 - 10:50
    They're hiding behind a reputation
  • 10:50 - 10:52
that had been created by all this movement.
  • 10:52 - 10:54
    But Jesus says, "You're lawless."
  • 10:54 - 10:56
    "You're not Mine. I don't know you."
  • 10:56 - 10:59
    "You're dead."
  • 10:59 - 11:04
And the thing is, He says many, over against the few.
  • 11:04 - 11:07
In other words, those in this world
  • 11:07 - 11:12
that bear a good reputation and bear a good name
  • 11:12 - 11:17
most, the reality is not behind the name.
  • 11:17 - 11:21
Most religion in this world is false and empty.
  • 11:21 - 11:27
Brethren, that ought to make us sit up and say, "Wow!"
  • 11:27 - 11:33
Look. You don't want to have that name peeled away
  • 11:33 - 11:37
like these people when it's too late.
  • 11:37 - 11:39
    I mean, they're saying,
  • 11:39 - 11:41
    "Lord, we're alive! We're alive! We're alive!"
  • 11:41 - 11:43
And He says, "You're dead. Depart."
  • 11:43 - 11:44
You don't want to find out then.
  • 11:44 - 11:46
You know when you want to find out?
  • 11:46 - 11:48
You want to find out today.
  • 11:48 - 11:50
You want to be like the people at Sardis,
  • 11:50 - 11:52
who heard the warning, and they responded
  • 11:52 - 11:54
and they repented and Christ didn't come against them,
  • 11:54 - 11:56
and they were worthy to walk in white.
  • 11:56 - 11:58
That's who you want to be like.
  • 11:58 - 12:01
You don't want to just say,
  • 12:01 - 12:03
you know what? I've got my opinion,
  • 12:03 - 12:04
and I'm going to bank my soul on it,
  • 12:04 - 12:06
    without any self-examination.
  • 12:06 - 12:09
    Brethren, don't do that.
  • 12:09 - 12:11
Religiously, there can be a lot of movement.
  • 12:11 - 12:12
    But you know what?
  • 12:12 - 12:16
It's no more than the twitching of a corpse.
  • 12:16 - 12:17
    That's all it is here.
  • 12:17 - 12:20
When Jesus says people like this are many.
  • 12:20 - 12:22
So here's what we have to ask.
  • 12:22 - 12:25
How do I know if my life is the fruit of true,
  • 12:25 - 12:27
real, God-breathed life, or if my life
  • 12:27 - 12:30
is no more than the twitching of a corpse?
  • 12:30 - 12:32
I mean, how can I know that?
  • 12:32 - 12:34
The folks at Sardis believed they were alive.
  • 12:34 - 12:36
    I believe I'm alive.
  • 12:36 - 12:38
    They were very much mistaken.
  • 12:38 - 12:40
    Am I?
  • 12:40 - 12:41
Brethren, let me tell you this,
  • 12:41 - 12:45
if you have sin that you know is against the will of God,
  • 12:45 - 12:47
and you can live in that state,
  • 12:47 - 12:48
    you're in trouble.
  • 12:48 - 12:51
If you can live in a state where you've got something
  • 12:51 - 12:54
you know you need to repent of, and you're not.
  • 12:54 - 12:56
I don't mean you shed a casual tear,
  • 12:56 - 12:58
and you get concerned once in a while,
  • 12:58 - 13:01
but you let it exist and go on.
  • 13:01 - 13:03
If there is not regular repentance,
  • 13:03 - 13:06
where you're actually casting off in your life
  • 13:06 - 13:07
    what God hates.
  • 13:07 - 13:10
If you're able to live with what God hates in your life,
  • 13:10 - 13:14
brethren, again, He says you will not enter heaven.
  • 13:14 - 13:16
    You won't.
  • 13:16 - 13:19
It doesn't matter what name you've given yourself,
  • 13:19 - 13:21
or what reputation you hide behind.
  • 13:21 - 13:24
If you are not a Christian in private,
  • 13:24 - 13:28
and if you are not sold out to do God's will,
  • 13:28 - 13:31
    you are in trouble.
  • 13:31 - 13:35
Don't rest in any name you've given yourself
  • 13:35 - 13:37
    or somebody else.
  • 13:37 - 13:39
    And I'll tell you this,
  • 13:39 - 13:41
There are very well meaning Christians that will come along
  • 13:41 - 13:44
    and will call people "brother."
  • 13:44 - 13:46
    And I think rightly so.
  • 13:46 - 13:50
    But they'll call you, "brother."
  • 13:50 - 13:52
    They'll call you "sister."
  • 13:52 - 13:54
    They'll give you a name.
  • 13:54 - 13:58
    They'll embolden that reputation.
  • 13:58 - 14:01
But if inside, you know these things aren't true,
  • 14:01 - 14:06
    don't let a man's word, a man's name,
  • 14:06 - 14:09
a man's perception of your reputation
  • 14:09 - 14:14
be any comfort to you, if inside you know
  • 14:14 - 14:18
you are wrongly bearing the name.
  • 14:18 - 14:19
    Don't rest on that.
  • 14:19 - 14:21
Don't rest on somebody else calling you a Christian.
  • 14:21 - 14:24
Or calling you brother or sister,
  • 14:24 - 14:29
if you know that according to Christ, I'm not well.
  • 14:29 - 14:31
    Wake up!
  • 14:31 - 14:33
    Don't lose your soul.
  • 14:33 - 14:38
You see, brethren, we like to have a good reputation.
  • 14:38 - 14:39
    If I come clean,
  • 14:39 - 14:41
I'm going to have a bad reputation.
  • 14:41 - 14:43
Wouldn't it be better to have a bad reputation
  • 14:43 - 14:44
    and go to heaven,
  • 14:44 - 14:48
than keep your good reputation and burn?
  • 14:48 - 14:52
Brethren, don't waste your soul on the fact that
  • 14:52 - 14:57
you might somehow now get a bad reputation with somebody.
  • 14:57 - 15:00
They might think less of you.
  • 15:00 - 15:03
Brethren, what really matters is what Christ thinks of you.
  • 15:03 - 15:07
If you take a hyper-Calvinistic road on this,
  • 15:07 - 15:09
and say well, I'm not going to burn bright,
  • 15:09 - 15:10
I'm not going to have life,
  • 15:10 - 15:12
I'm not going to be a raging fire again,
  • 15:12 - 15:14
this thing isn't going to be recovered
  • 15:14 - 15:15
    unless God does it.
  • 15:15 - 15:18
You will go to hell in your hyper-Calvinism.
  • 15:18 - 15:21
What Christ is telling you to do is act on this.
  • 15:21 - 15:23
    Right now. Act on it.
  • 15:23 - 15:25
Think about this: if you're in the wilderness,
  • 15:25 - 15:26
and you had a fire, and you know
  • 15:26 - 15:29
your life depends on that fire being kept lit,
  • 15:29 - 15:31
if not you're going to die,
  • 15:31 - 15:32
then suddenly, you look at the fire
  • 15:32 - 15:35
and you come to realize, the flame is out.
  • 15:35 - 15:37
There's a few glowing embers in there.
  • 15:37 - 15:38
What are you going to do?
  • 15:38 - 15:42
Take a cold cup of the water of television
  • 15:42 - 15:43
    and throw it on there?
  • 15:43 - 15:45
Brethren, do you see this is real life?
  • 15:45 - 15:47
This fire is you. It's your heart.
  • 15:47 - 15:49
    It's us.
  • 15:49 - 15:50
I mean what are you going to do?
  • 15:50 - 15:51
Are you going to throw blankets over the top of it?
  • 15:51 - 15:55
The blankets of just fun and frivolity of this life.
  • 15:55 - 15:58
Brethren, what you're going to do is
  • 15:58 - 15:59
you're going to get down there and you're going
  • 15:59 - 16:01
    to blow on those coals.
  • 16:01 - 16:03
You're going to find the driest kindling that you possibly can.
  • 16:03 - 16:06
Brethren, I see this like blowing on it
  • 16:06 - 16:08
    with the breath of prayer.
  • 16:08 - 16:09
You're going to blow on it.
  • 16:09 - 16:11
Put the kindling of repentance on it.
  • 16:11 - 16:12
If there's any sin in your life,
  • 16:12 - 16:13
    anything between you and Christ.
  • 16:13 - 16:16
If there's bad things you've let into your life.
  • 16:16 - 16:18
I mean, brethren, this is about getting that fire back up
  • 16:18 - 16:20
because it's ready to go out and if it goes out
  • 16:20 - 16:23
    you die.
  • 16:23 - 16:24
You say I don't know how this fits in with election.
  • 16:24 - 16:25
I don't know how this fits in...
  • 16:25 - 16:27
    Don't concern yourself with that.
  • 16:27 - 16:29
    Christ is talking to people.
  • 16:29 - 16:32
He's talking to real people just like you and me.
  • 16:32 - 16:34
And He's saying you have a responsbility,
  • 16:34 - 16:35
    and if you are dying,
  • 16:35 - 16:38
    brethren, ask yourself.
  • 16:38 - 16:43
Are there any signs that you're dying?
  • 16:43 - 16:44
I mean, did you know conviction in the past
  • 16:44 - 16:46
    that you don't know today?
  • 16:46 - 16:49
Did you know affection and feelings for Christ
  • 16:49 - 16:52
    that you don't feel today?
  • 16:52 - 16:54
When you sang the songs of Zion in the past,
  • 16:54 - 16:55
was there a joy and a delight
  • 16:55 - 16:57
    that you don't feel today?
  • 16:57 - 16:59
Were you concerned about your soul in the past
  • 16:59 - 17:00
in a way that you don't feel today?
  • 17:00 - 17:02
Were you concerned about other's souls
  • 17:02 - 17:03
in a way you don't feel today?
  • 17:03 - 17:05
Brethren, that is a picture of spiritual decline,
  • 17:05 - 17:07
    and if it's true, brethren,
  • 17:07 - 17:10
draw the line out from where you are.
  • 17:10 - 17:15
That which is dying will die and the end is death.
  • 17:15 - 17:16
    You don't want that.
  • 17:16 - 17:18
I mean, Christ told another church,
  • 17:18 - 17:22
    first love, intensity, increase,
  • 17:22 - 17:26
if not, brethren, He removes candlesticks.
  • 17:26 - 17:28
    He responds.
  • 17:28 - 17:30
If there's any kind of decline,
  • 17:30 - 17:31
we need to jump on this fire,
  • 17:31 - 17:34
we need to make sure that it comes back to a blaze.
  • 17:34 - 17:37
And you know the things that put the fire out.
  • 17:37 - 17:39
    Worldliness puts the fire out.
  • 17:39 - 17:43
The world comes at us in full force
  • 17:43 - 17:47
on the computer and on the television
  • 17:47 - 17:49
and on movies, on the news, and on radio.
  • 17:49 - 17:54
    Full force.
  • 17:54 - 17:57
    Having worldly friends and acquaintances,
  • 17:57 - 17:59
    they corrupt good morals.
  • 17:59 - 18:03
They're this wet water on the fire.
  • 18:03 - 18:04
    Staying away from the Word,
  • 18:04 - 18:07
Oh brethren, if there's anything to kindle the fire, it's the Word.
  • 18:07 - 18:09
    Anything to kindle faith.
  • 18:09 - 18:14
Brethren, faith comes by hearing, hearing by the Word of God.
  • 18:14 - 18:15
You look at your life, well, you know,
  • 18:15 - 18:17
I'm kind of cold when I read the Scriptures.
  • 18:17 - 18:19
Brethren, if there's any kind of disobedience,
  • 18:19 - 18:21
    disobedience - basically sin,
  • 18:21 - 18:24
it separates between you and God and puts the fire out,
  • 18:24 - 18:25
    it quenches the Spirit,
  • 18:25 - 18:26
    quench, quench, quench...
  • 18:26 - 18:31
You want to reverse everything in your life that is quenching.
  • 18:31 - 18:34
Because that puts the fire out.
  • 18:34 - 18:36
    And brethren, Jesus is serious.
  • 18:36 - 18:41
He's saying no activity, this is about to die.
  • 18:41 - 18:44
    And it's amazing - isn't it amazing?
  • 18:44 - 18:47
    I find this absolutely merciful
  • 18:47 - 18:49
    that Jesus would say,
  • 18:49 - 18:53
you have had, you have received,
  • 18:53 - 19:00
    you have heard good things.
  • 19:00 - 19:02
And now you're at this place.
  • 19:02 - 19:04
And Jesus just doesn't pull His hand back
  • 19:04 - 19:06
and say I gave them the truth,
  • 19:06 - 19:07
    they didn't respond,
  • 19:07 - 19:09
    let them be damned.
  • 19:09 - 19:10
    Even right at the end,
  • 19:10 - 19:12
    even before the flame,
  • 19:12 - 19:15
the last vestige of that fire goes out,
  • 19:15 - 19:18
He steps in one more time,
  • 19:18 - 19:23
and He says, pull back. Pull back.
  • 19:23 - 19:27
Stop putting the water on the fire.
  • 19:27 - 19:29
    I still bid you come.
  • 19:29 - 19:32
    I will still receive you.
  • 19:32 - 19:34
    Repent.
  • 19:34 - 19:36
If you don't. It's going out. I'm going to come against you.
  • 19:36 - 19:38
But even here at the end,
  • 19:38 - 19:40
what a mercy! what a mercy!
  • 19:40 - 19:42
Some of you have been drifting.
  • 19:42 - 19:44
Some of you are way out there,
  • 19:44 - 19:47
you're out there, and if you draw that line
  • 19:47 - 19:49
from where you are on the path that you've been on,
  • 19:49 - 19:51
    it misses heaven.
  • 19:51 - 19:52
    It does.
  • 19:52 - 19:54
You may not think so because you're hiding behind a name.
  • 19:54 - 19:56
And you're hiding behind a past reputation.
  • 19:56 - 19:58
And you're hiding behind these things.
  • 19:58 - 20:00
But I'll guarantee you, based on what we've been seeing
  • 20:00 - 20:03
in these letters, if you draw the line out, you miss it.
  • 20:03 - 20:08
And even now, before you fully reach that place,
  • 20:08 - 20:10
    like Hebrews 6 talks about,
  • 20:10 - 20:11
where there's a point of no return,
  • 20:11 - 20:13
even before you get to the place of no return,
  • 20:13 - 20:17
He comes up and He puts His arm around you,
  • 20:17 - 20:20
and He bids you turn back.
  • 20:20 - 20:22
    I still bid you.
  • 20:22 - 20:25
I would have you not perish.
  • 20:25 - 20:28
I still would rather see you turn.
  • 20:28 - 20:30
And brethren, the thing about this letter...
  • 20:30 - 20:35
there is no guarantee from it
  • 20:35 - 20:37
    that these people turn back.
  • 20:37 - 20:42
Your realize there is great possibility
  • 20:42 - 20:45
that it will not turn out well.
  • 20:45 - 20:50
You do not get an overly encouraging feeling here.
  • 20:50 - 20:52
This is like the last word.
  • 20:52 - 20:55
    Turn back.
  • 20:55 - 20:59
You're running suicidally towards a cliff,
  • 20:59 - 21:04
and you're close to it even now.
  • 21:04 - 21:08
    Pull back. Repent. Come back.
