Keep Track of Your Festivals - Intro to Point & Click App Development

  • 0:01 - 0:05
Okay. So it wants me to choose my field type. Okay, so
  • 0:05 - 0:09
okay, I've got all these different choices of data type. What's going on?
  • 0:09 - 0:11
    >> So it's pretty overwhelming the different field types at first, because
  • 0:11 - 0:14
there are so many. But really the most important thing to note
  • 0:14 - 0:17
is that you just want to be able to pick the field
  • 0:17 - 0:19
type that's closest to whatever type of field you're trying to track.
  • 0:19 - 0:22
    >> Okay. So if we're doing start date, is date good?
  • 0:22 - 0:23
    >> Date sounds great.
  • 0:23 - 0:23
    >> Okay.
  • 0:25 - 0:31
then Next, I guess. Okay, Field Label. I'm going to go with Start Date.
  • 0:31 - 0:34
    >> Sounds good. This is what you're going to see on that page
  • 0:34 - 0:36
that we were just on, as the little label for this field.
  • 0:36 - 0:38
    >> Okay. And what's the difference between that and the name?
  • 0:38 - 0:42
    >> The Field Name is the actual API name that it stores
  • 0:42 - 0:45
in the database. So that just needs to be a unique value.
  • 0:45 - 0:48
    >> Is that for like if you're going to do some coding stuff?
  • 0:48 - 0:50
    >> Any sort of code or maybe some formulas
  • 0:50 - 0:52
    like we'll go build later.
  • 0:52 - 0:54
    >> So description is, I guess I should fill this
  • 0:54 - 0:57
out, right? The date the festival starts. What's help texter?
  • 0:57 - 1:01
    >> it's I guess a field that people don't really understand. You can
  • 1:01 - 1:04
add the little help text so they can get more details about it.
  • 1:04 - 1:07
    >> Pretty clear, okay. alright. No, I'm
  • 1:07 - 1:09
not going to make this a required value.
  • 1:09 - 1:11
Sometimes you get festivals that maybe don't
  • 1:11 - 1:12
know the date yet, or something, so.
  • 1:12 - 1:13
    >> Yeah.
  • 1:13 - 1:16
    >> Okay, next. Oh my goodness. More
  • 1:16 - 1:16
    checkboxes.
  • 1:16 - 1:19
    >> Yeah, so this wizard really takes us through every sort of aspect
  • 1:19 - 1:23
you might need to consider, around building a field. In this case, again, it's
  • 1:23 - 1:26
asking us about security. So, if we were trying to build private fields, we
  • 1:26 - 1:30
could then associate, hey we only want to make this visible to certain profiles.
  • 1:30 - 1:31
    >> Okay.
  • 1:31 - 1:32
    >> I know it's a lot of jargon to begin
  • 1:32 - 1:34
with right now. But all you really need to know is
  • 1:34 - 1:38
every user that lives within your Salesforce organization is associated with
  • 1:38 - 1:41
some security profiles. You can turn fields on and off for
  • 1:41 - 1:42
    individual people if you want.
  • 1:42 - 1:43
    >> And for now we can just.
  • 1:43 - 1:45
    >> Just leave it at default. Yeah. It's
  • 1:45 - 1:48
just us. The last step of the process,
  • 1:48 - 1:51
do we want to add it to a page layout? So really, all this means is, do
  • 1:51 - 1:53
you want to put this field onto the page
  • 1:53 - 1:55
automatically? So that form we were just on,
  • 1:55 - 1:58
where we saw cloud stock last modified by,
  • 1:58 - 2:01
created by, it's adding it into that layout.
  • 2:01 - 2:06
    >> Oh yeah, I totally want that. Okay, okay. So check, save. Alright.
  • 2:06 - 2:06
    >> Alright.
  • 2:06 - 2:08
    >> And we've got our festival custom object,
  • 2:08 - 2:11
and we've got a custom field that's just empty.
  • 2:11 - 2:12
    >> Right.
  • 2:12 - 2:12
    >> That's cool.
  • 2:12 - 2:16
    >> What we're looking at right now is the setup screen for
  • 2:16 - 2:19
our object itself. We can see the standard fields, so those are
  • 2:19 - 2:22
the things that we saw automatically already. And then we add more
  • 2:22 - 2:26
custom fields, or any sort of customization around our custom object here.
  • 2:26 - 2:28
    >> 'Kay. I guess it makes sense to add an end date next?
  • 2:28 - 2:31
    >> Yeah. So let's just keep going down the line and adding more fields.
