Title:
Rewiring our brain in a healthy way | Daniel J. Siegel, M.D. | TEDxBlue
Description:

We are all aware of the tragic episodes of human history, like several genocides and inhuman behaviors. Nowadays science reveals that it is possible to shut mindsight -- inner vision, off, which is the cause of such behaviors, for example, the behavior of the guards at concentration camps.
Unfortunately, present culture and the education system promotes the development of a very sick, one-sided brain by not allowing kids to use their compassion circuit, the connecting, social side of their brain.

Would you like to be (or at least your children be) part of a new generation that develops a healthy brain and has a sense of responsibility for all living beings on our planet? Would you like to find your element, find your passion (or help them find theirs) and know what it's like to be for the greater good by realizing you are a part of a larger whole?

Daniel Siegel is a child psychiatrist, educator and author, and the "father” of Interpersonal Neurobiology. In this persuasive talk, he shows us that through the findings of neuroscience, now we can clearly see that humanity has the opportunity to rewire its own brain in a healthy way. This is basically what the Mindsight approach does. By his explanation and short demos, we can understand that empathic relationships and reflective skill training promote the complete integration of the brain, how these can be developed in children (and in adults as well) and how we can deliver in education an integrated brain. We have the real chance to reinvent education -- from preschool to high school -- by using the tools of Mindsight, for example, the triangle of mind-brain-relationships as an organizational principle, so that the brain becomes integrated. It is possible to cultivate a form of brain hygiene, just like dental hygiene: "brainbrushing" can become a daily activity like toothbrushing is. Why not?

Dr. Daniel Siegel explores the neural mechanisms beneath social and emotional intelligence and how these can be cultivated through reflective practices that focus on the inner nature of the mind.
