The Marble Faun was Edith Beale's nickname for Jerry Torre, their friend and handyman. It's from a novel.

George Gould Strong - the Strong family were friends of the Beale family. For a while Mrs. Beale (after her husband abandoned), had a companion, George Gould Strong. Little Edie (the character played by Christine Ebersole on Broadway), resented anyone implying that he was a gigolo to her mother.

    Slang:

"take a hike" = go away, leave

"in the cards" = fate, or at least, foretold, obvious

"cements the deal" = decides it, ensures it

    More slang and info.

    "two bit" = 25 cents

"fleabag" = worst hotel, full of fleas

"it was mother's money, the Bouviers" = Edith Bouvier married a Beale, her daughter was also named Edith. Those are Big Edie and Little Edie in "Grey Gardens." Edith Bouvier Beale was the sister of "Black Jack" Bouvier, who was the father of Jackie (Bouvier) Kennedy Onassis. That made Big Edie the aunt of Jackie Onassis and Little Edie was the cousin of Jackie Onassis. The Bouvier family was a wealthy and aristocratic Catholic family of French origin.

"Grey Gardens" was a documentary film by the Maysle brothers. A Broadway musical was inspired by the documentary. Christine Ebersole played "Little Edie" Beale. "Around the World" is from the musical. The lyrics were taken from or inspired by things Little Edie Beale said in the original documentary. Some lyrics are quoted from Edie, word for word. Here, Miss Ebersole sings a song from the musical, but, she is not in costume.
