AS LAMBS AMONG WOLVES - an important lesson for all of us! - overcoming your fear

  • 0:02 - 0:04
    The Call of Jesus
  • 0:05 - 0:10
Welcome to this lesson 9 that is called
    "As Lambs Among Wolves".
  • 0:10 - 0:12
I hope it's okay I'm going to provoke
    you a little here.
  • 0:12 - 0:18
I'm going to challenge you and say
something that will really make you think.
  • 0:18 - 0:19
I hope you are ready for that.
  • 0:19 - 0:23
We start to get a lot of feedback
from my new book "The Call of Jesus".
  • 0:23 - 0:27
A person from Canada wrote this
    about the book:
  • 0:27 - 0:31
"Best book I've ever read besides
    the Bible.
  • 0:31 - 0:37
This book is a must read for everybody,
    especially the Body of Christ!
  • 0:37 - 0:43
    It's a wake-up call that's urgently
    needed in these last days,
  • 0:43 - 0:49
and will lead believers back to
the first love with real joy and excitement
  • 0:49 - 0:51
in their walk with the Lord!"
  • 0:52 - 0:57
So, one person said that it was the best book
he has ever read, beside the Bible.
  • 0:57 - 1:01
And I believe also, when you read the book,
    the whole book,
  • 1:01 - 1:05
or move on in this video series with me,
you will find it very, very good,
  • 1:05 - 1:07
    very interesting. Why?
  • 1:07 - 1:11
Especially in the end, when we are
going to put it all together.
  • 1:11 - 1:15
What we are doing now is we are
    taking it verse by verse,
  • 1:15 - 1:18
word by word, what Jesus is saying
    in Luke 10.
  • 1:18 - 1:21
And then later we will put more
    meat on it,
  • 1:21 - 1:23
and later we will put it together,
  • 1:23 - 1:25
and send you out with it,
  • 1:25 - 1:30
send you out to live this life
    Jesus has for you.
  • 1:30 - 1:35
After Jesus said in the beginning
of Luke 10 that the harvest is ready
  • 1:35 - 1:38
    and the workers are few,
then He said that we should pray
  • 1:38 - 1:42
    the Lord of the harvest
    to send out workers -
  • 1:42 - 1:45
something we have been looking at.
  • 1:45 - 1:50
And then in Luke 10:3 He says this:
  • 1:50 - 1:56
"Go your way: behold, I send you out
    as lambs among wolves."
  • 1:57 - 2:00
This is what we are going to look at today.
  • 2:00 - 2:04
One of the first things He said there is:
    Go!
  • 2:04 - 2:06
    Go your way.
  • 2:06 - 2:10
What you need to understand is that
    the harvest is ready.
  • 2:10 - 2:13
    The harvest is plentiful.
  • 2:14 - 2:17
The harvest is not the problem.
  • 2:17 - 2:19
    The problem is the workers.
  • 2:19 - 2:23
And we looked at that last time,
that we should pray the Lord of the harvest
  • 2:23 - 2:25
    to send out workers.
  • 2:25 - 2:29
    But then He says this:
    Go your way.
  • 2:29 - 2:32
    Or said in other works:
    Go out in harvest.
  • 2:32 - 2:35
    Go out in the harvest.
  • 2:35 - 2:38
Why? Because the harvest is not going to
    come to us.
  • 2:38 - 2:44
    Try to imagine a farmer,
a farmer out in the real world,
  • 2:44 - 2:47
who is standing there and looking
    at the harvest.
  • 2:47 - 2:51
And when he's looking at the harvest
he sees that the harvest is huge,
  • 2:51 - 2:56
    the harvest is plentiful and
    the harvest is ripe.
  • 2:56 - 2:59
    The harvest is so ready,
    the harvest is so ripe.
  • 2:59 - 3:02
And he just feels that joy.
  • 3:02 - 3:04
    What does he do?
  • 3:04 - 3:09
    He opens the barn door
and then he looks over the harvest,
  • 3:09 - 3:13
and then this farmer would say:
    Harvest! Come in!
  • 3:13 - 3:15
    Come in to the barn!
  • 3:16 - 3:19
And then, he looks at the harvest
    and he sees something interesting.
  • 3:19 - 3:22
He sees that the harvest doesn't
    come into the barn.
  • 3:22 - 3:25
    So, he starts to think.
  • 3:25 - 3:28
What is wrong with the harvest?
  • 3:28 - 3:31
Maybe the harvest doesn't hear me.
Maybe I need to shout a little louder.
  • 3:31 - 3:34
    Harvest! Harvest! Come in!
  • 3:34 - 3:37
    Harvest, the barn is ready!
The barn is ready for you!
  • 3:37 - 3:39
    Come in, harvest!
  • 3:39 - 3:41
    And he shouts louder.
  • 3:41 - 3:44
But still the harvest doesn't come in.
  • 3:44 - 3:47
So, he starts to think what is wrong
    with that harvest.
  • 3:47 - 3:52
Why the harvest doesn't want to come in
    to the barn?
  • 3:52 - 3:56
And then he looks at the barn and
he thinks: Oh, now I know it.
  • 3:56 - 3:58
    The barn is dirty.
  • 3:58 - 4:00
The harvest doesn't want to come
    into a dirty barn.
  • 4:00 - 4:03
So, he fixes the barn now.
  • 4:04 - 4:10
He gets all the dirt out and he even
puts a nice carpet on the barn floor.
  • 4:10 - 4:16
He even puts a coffee machine into the barn,
he fixes it up, and has lights,
  • 4:16 - 4:22
and he makes the barn so cozy.
He even puts some very nice soft music in,
  • 4:22 - 4:26
to the barn, so the barn is so amazing
    and so cozy.
  • 4:26 - 4:28
And then he goes out and he looks
    at the harvest and says:
  • 4:28 - 4:30
    Harvest, come in!
  • 4:30 - 4:33
And the harvest still doesn't come in.
  • 4:34 - 4:35
    Why?
  • 4:35 - 4:39
    Because the harvest doesn't care
    how cozy the barn is.
  • 4:39 - 4:44
The harvest cannot stand up and come in.
  • 4:44 - 4:48
    The harvest is not created
    to come into the barn.
  • 4:49 - 4:54
The only thing he, actually, got out of
fixing the barn and making it so cozy,
  • 4:54 - 4:59
with soft music, and lights, and sofa,
    and coffee machine,
  • 4:59 - 5:03
is that now all the workers are sitting in
there and doesn't want to go out.
  • 5:04 - 5:08
The only thing we really get out of
    fixing our churches
  • 5:08 - 5:12
is that is so cozy and nice that no one
    wants to leave them.
  • 5:13 - 5:16
But you know, the people out there,
    the harvest, the sinners,
  • 5:16 - 5:19
they don't care how fine the churches are.
  • 5:20 - 5:27
The harvest is not created to stand up
    and go into the barn.
  • 5:27 - 5:34
No, the workers are created to stand up
    and go out in harvest.
  • 5:34 - 5:38
And this is what we should have done
    in the churches.
  • 5:38 - 5:43
Instead of making nice churches and
hoping that people will come in to us,
  • 5:43 - 5:51
we should be training and equipping them,
the workers, to go out there.
  • 5:52 - 5:57
And again, I'd like to say,
not go and stand on a platform in Africa.
  • 5:58 - 6:01
Just go out to that harvest that's just
    outside the door,
  • 6:01 - 6:05
to find the person of peace,
    and go to their house,
  • 6:05 - 6:06
and eat and drink what they serve,
  • 6:06 - 6:09
    and do everything
I'm going to look at later in this book.
  • 6:09 - 6:10
    I want to read here.
  • 6:10 - 6:14
    "Are we not doing exactly
what the farmer did in our churches?
  • 6:14 - 6:21
We use a lot of time, money,
resources to make our churches (barns)
  • 6:21 - 6:25
    look nice and cozy
    with beautiful carpet and lights.
  • 6:25 - 6:28
    We even play music
    to set the right atmosphere.
  • 6:28 - 6:34
We do all of this with the belief
that if the church is nice and cozy
  • 6:34 - 6:38
and the sermon is just right,
then people will start to come
  • 6:38 - 6:42
    into the church by themselves
    and get saved."
  • 6:43 - 6:45
    I just want to say...
  • 6:45 - 6:47
This is what most people are doing.
  • 6:47 - 6:50
Yes, of course, you can see a little fruit
    of that.
  • 6:50 - 6:52
Of course, there are some people today,
  • 6:53 - 6:55
    and mostly church people,
  • 6:55 - 6:58
who change one church to another,
    and so on,
  • 6:58 - 7:01
    but a sinner out there...
  • 7:01 - 7:04
Yes, we see a little fruit,
    but I guarantee you...
  • 7:04 - 7:06
You will see so much more fruit
  • 7:07 - 7:12
instead, if you start to train and equip
    workers to go out.
  • 7:12 - 7:16
Why? Let's say you have a church
    with 100 people.
  • 7:16 - 7:19
And you have a few people come in,
    to you, here and there.
  • 7:19 - 7:22
But how often do you see a church
    with 100 people
  • 7:22 - 7:26
that is 100 one year and then 200
next year, and then 400, and then 800,
  • 7:26 - 7:31
    and then 1600, and 3200 and 6400?
    We don't see that.
  • 7:31 - 7:34
    That is just 100% growth.
  • 7:34 - 7:36
    That is just one person
    leading the one to Christ.
  • 7:36 - 7:38
    Per year.
  • 7:38 - 7:42
Why? Because most people in church
    never lead anyone to Christ.
  • 7:42 - 7:44
They are not equipped for it.
They don't know what to do.
  • 7:44 - 7:47
They don't go out and do it.
  • 7:47 - 7:50
And this is what it is -
you are called to lead people to Christ.
  • 7:50 - 7:53
You are not called to just be in church
    where other people do it.
  • 7:53 - 7:59
You are called to lead the harvest,
    the people to Christ.
  • 7:59 - 8:03
So, what we are saying is that the harvest
    is not the problem.
  • 8:03 - 8:05
The harvest has never been the problem.
  • 8:05 - 8:07
    The problem is us.
  • 8:07 - 8:10
The problem is you and me.
  • 8:10 - 8:12
But we can do something about it.
  • 8:12 - 8:19
And we need to start with obeying
what Jesus has commanded us to.
  • 8:19 - 8:24
Let's move on and look at what Jesus
also is saying in Luke 10:3:
  • 8:25 - 8:32
"Go your way; behold, I send you out
    as lambs among wolves."
  • 8:32 - 8:35
I send you out as lambs among wolves.
  • 8:35 - 8:40
I think we have read that so many times
without really stopping up and thinking:
  • 8:40 - 8:45
    What? What? What?
What is it Jesus You are saying?
  • 8:46 - 8:48
What are You saying here, Jesus?
  • 8:48 - 8:53
I send you out as lambs among wolves.
  • 8:53 - 8:56
    Try to imagine Jesus standing
    with a little, little lamb;
  • 8:56 - 9:00
    I have a picture here;
with a little lamb in His arms.
  • 9:00 - 9:04
A lamb is very, very, very helpless.
  • 9:04 - 9:07
    Meh, or baa...
  • 9:07 - 9:11
    In Europe we say: meh.
In America I think they say: baa.
  • 9:11 - 9:16
But, no matter if it's a meh or baa,
    what happens?
  • 9:16 - 9:21
A little meh cannot scare wolf away.
  • 9:21 - 9:26
But Jesus takes this little lamb
and send him out among wolves.
  • 9:27 - 9:28
    Try to imagine this.
  • 9:28 - 9:32
    Try to imagine Jesus's standing
with a little lamb. Meh... baa....
  • 9:32 - 9:35
And then He sees wolf out there.
  • 9:35 - 9:39
    Whoa! Look at those wolves.
Those wolves want to eat you.
  • 9:39 - 9:42
Baa! They want to eat you. Baa!
  • 9:42 - 9:46
And then He takes this little lamb
and then He says: Out with you.
  • 9:46 - 9:50
I send you out as lamb among wolves.
  • 9:51 - 9:53
    What can a lamb do?
  • 9:53 - 9:55
A lamb is, as I said, very helpless.
  • 9:55 - 9:58
That "baa" is not going to
    chase the wolf away.
  • 9:58 - 10:02
A lamb is not very good camouflaged.
    Is it? No.
  • 10:02 - 10:05
    It cannot climb trees. No.
    It's not very fast. No.
  • 10:05 - 10:09
    A lamb is, actually,
    very, very, very helpless.
  • 10:10 - 10:14
    And I think that's why
    Jesus chose that picture.
  • 10:14 - 10:19
A lamb is, actually, one of those few
animals we really see, who needs a shepherd.
  • 10:19 - 10:22
    Cats don't need a shepherd.
    They are very fast.
  • 10:22 - 10:26
    Dogs don't need a shepherd.
It can bark, have teeth, and so on.
  • 10:26 - 10:31
And snakes don't need a shepherd.
Birds can fly away. Don't need a shepherd.
  • 10:31 - 10:35
But a lamb need a shepherd.
  • 10:35 - 10:37
    Sheep need a shepherd.
  • 10:37 - 10:44
What good shepherd, in his right mind,
would do what Jesus is doing?
  • 10:44 - 10:48
    Sending the little, little lamb
    out among wolves.
  • 10:49 - 10:51
    There is only one shepherd
    who would do that,
  • 10:51 - 10:54
who is sending His sweet lamb
    among wolves.
  • 10:55 - 10:57
And that is the good shepherd Jesus.
  • 10:57 - 11:02
And that is the shepherd who goes
    with the lamb.
  • 11:02 - 11:08
And this is what He is doing.
He is sending us out among wolves,
  • 11:08 - 11:11
but He is not staying behind, waiting,
  • 11:11 - 11:13
    while the wolves are coming
    and eating us.
  • 11:13 - 11:18
He said: Go! Behold, I send you
    out as lambs among wolves.
  • 11:18 - 11:21
And then He goes with us.
  • 11:21 - 11:23
And this is the first what you are
    going to experience.
  • 11:23 - 11:27
    When you step out there...
  • 11:27 - 11:31
you can feel like little lamb...
    meh... baa... I'm afraid.
  • 11:31 - 11:37
    But when you go,
you will experience that He is with you.
  • 11:37 - 11:40
    Go out there among wolves.
  • 11:40 - 11:46
You know, the wolf can be a picture of
everything that tries to create fear in us.
  • 11:46 - 11:49
But the truth is - it's not easy out there.
  • 11:49 - 11:50
    It's not easy.
  • 11:50 - 11:52
    And He has never promised
    that it would be easy.
  • 11:52 - 11:55
He has said that we will
    experience persecution.
  • 11:55 - 11:57
He has said that people will
    speak against us.
  • 11:57 - 12:00
He has said that people will
    even beat some of us,
  • 12:00 - 12:03
throw us to jail and kill us.
  • 12:03 - 12:07
    He has not promised us
    that it would be easy,
  • 12:07 - 12:11
    but He has promised us
that He will go with us.
  • 12:11 - 12:14
Many shepherds today in the churches
    do the opposite of Jesus.
  • 12:14 - 12:16
They keep lambs away from wolves.
  • 12:16 - 12:18
They are like: as soon as somebody
    gets saved:
  • 12:18 - 12:21
No, no, no. Come in, come in here
    in the fine church.
  • 12:21 - 12:24
    Oh, don't go out there.
And when people start to go out:
  • 12:24 - 12:27
Be careful, be careful. There's wolves
out there. They want to eat you.
  • 12:27 - 12:31
Be back here. And we keep people
    away from the wolves.
  • 12:32 - 12:35
But it's out there where the harvest is.
  • 12:35 - 12:37
And we need to be out there
    in the harvest.
  • 12:37 - 12:40
And we should not keep people away
    from the wolves,
  • 12:40 - 12:43
    because the wolves are there,
    but Jesus is also there.
  • 12:43 - 12:47
    Jesus is going with us.
  • 12:47 - 12:49
And this is what we need to learn.
  • 12:49 - 12:51
I want to read more from my book here:
  • 12:51 - 12:53
    "So, do not be afraid!
  • 12:53 - 12:57
Take the first step, and you will see
    that Jesus is with you!
  • 12:57 - 13:01
Jesus' Word to you and me is,
    "Go!"
  • 13:01 - 13:05
We should go out as lambs among wolves.
  • 13:05 - 13:10
He did not say, "Stay here because
    there are wolves out there."
  • 13:10 - 13:14
    No, He said, "Go!"
    Yes, there's wolves out there,
  • 13:14 - 13:16
    and they will never disappear.
  • 13:16 - 13:21
They are there to put fear in you,
and that is just how it is.
  • 13:21 - 13:25
Remember that next time you are going
to take a step and go to somebody
  • 13:25 - 13:31
and open your mouth to speak about
Jesus with people you know or do not know.
  • 13:31 - 13:33
You might feel the fear is coming.
  • 13:33 - 13:36
You might feel like a little lamb
    and just want to say,
  • 13:36 - 13:41
'baa' while your legs are shaking
    like a little newborn lamb
  • 13:41 - 13:44
trying to take the first small steps.
  • 13:44 - 13:47
    But then remember Jesus' words,
  • 13:47 - 13:50
    and instead of saying, 'baa,'
    say, 'AMEN,'
  • 13:50 - 13:52
knowing that Jesus is going with you!
  • 13:52 - 13:56
Then, boldly take the first step in faith!"
  • 13:57 - 14:00
What we read here is not just words.
  • 14:00 - 14:03
What Jesus has said is real.
  • 14:03 - 14:06
    He is sending us out
    as lambs among wolves.
  • 14:06 - 14:09
And yes, we will feel fear.
  • 14:09 - 14:10
    The fear is there.
  • 14:10 - 14:14
The fear is never going to
    disappear completely.
  • 14:14 - 14:16
    It's not going to disappear.
  • 14:17 - 14:19
It hasn't disappeared in my life.
  • 14:19 - 14:24
    But, I have experienced now
    so many times,
  • 14:24 - 14:30
when I, as a little lamb, baa...
take the first step, baa... meh...
  • 14:31 - 14:37
and go out there, and experience
    that, wow, it went good,
  • 14:37 - 14:39
    wow, Jesus was with me!
  • 14:39 - 14:42
In that moment I took that step,
in that moment I opened my mouth,
  • 14:42 - 14:45
in that moment I laid hands on people,
    when I was out there,
  • 14:45 - 14:50
it was not so bad as I feared.
Jesus gave me strength. Jesus was with me.
  • 14:51 - 14:52
    Ha!
  • 14:52 - 14:54
    I will never forget that.
  • 14:54 - 14:57
And then yes, you forget a little
    till the next time,
  • 14:57 - 14:59
but still you remember a little of it.
  • 14:59 - 15:01
    And you remember:
Hey, He was with me last time.
  • 15:01 - 15:02
He will be with me this time.
  • 15:02 - 15:04
    And then next time:
He was with me last time
  • 15:04 - 15:06
and the time before. He will also
    be with me this time.
  • 15:06 - 15:08
And the next time: He was with me
    there, there, there.
  • 15:08 - 15:10
He will also be with me there.
  • 15:10 - 15:14
So, the fear will never disappear,
    but you will remember,
  • 15:15 - 15:19
    by experience,
    that He is with you,
  • 15:19 - 15:25
    and therefore it becomes easier,
and easier, and easier, and easier.
  • 15:25 - 15:29
So, I really want to encourage you
    out there and say:
  • 15:30 - 15:33
    Don't be afraid.
    Go!
  • 15:34 - 15:40
Jesus did not say this we read here,
for us only to read about it,
  • 15:40 - 15:45
to pray about it, to memorize it,
to even learn it in Greek and Hebrew.
  • 15:45 - 15:51
    He's teaching us His words
    that we might obey them.
  • 15:51 - 15:54
    For you to obey it.
  • 15:54 - 15:57
And can I be a little harsh now?
Can I provoke you a little?
  • 15:58 - 16:00
    Don't be deceived.
  • 16:00 - 16:04
Do not be one of those
we read about in the Bible
  • 16:05 - 16:09
    who calls on Jesus
    and calls Him: Lord, Lord!
  • 16:09 - 16:13
But Jesus will one day say:
Why do you call me: Lord, Lord,
  • 16:13 - 16:17
if you do not do what I say?
  • 16:20 - 16:24
You know from the last time
and from the teaching we have seen until now,
  • 16:24 - 16:29
that it's not about our church way,
it's not about how we do mission
  • 16:29 - 16:33
    out of the church box.
It's about Christ, Christ and Christ alone,
  • 16:33 - 16:35
and what He has called us to,
    and we are His disciples.
  • 16:35 - 16:38
    We have looked how
    the harvest is ready,
  • 16:38 - 16:41
the harvest is really, really ready
    and plentiful,
  • 16:42 - 16:45
and we need to pray the Lord of the harvest
    to send out workers,
  • 16:45 - 16:48
but then we need to go out ourselves.
  • 16:48 - 16:51
And I encourage you to keep praying,
    keep praying every day
  • 16:51 - 16:56
for the Lord to send out more workers,
but I also encourage you - start to go.
  • 16:57 - 16:59
    Go. Take the first step.
  • 16:59 - 17:04
And now again, we are not talking that
you need to go to Africa
  • 17:04 - 17:08
and stand on a platform, or you have to
stand in the church with a mike in your hand.
  • 17:08 - 17:10
    Just, look around you.
  • 17:11 - 17:13
Where are the people around you
    who need Jesus?
  • 17:13 - 17:15
Where are the people who you can
    share Jesus with?
  • 17:15 - 17:19
Especially this time, with the end times,
crazy time we are living in,
  • 17:19 - 17:21
with all the fear, with virus,
    and all of this.
  • 17:21 - 17:24
It's really the time for the church
    to rise up and shine.
  • 17:24 - 17:27
To open the mouth to be bold.
  • 17:27 - 17:29
    Don't say: bee... or meh...
  • 17:29 - 17:32
    Say: Amen! Amen!
  • 17:32 - 17:35
    I believe in Jesus' word.
Yes, I feel like a little lamb,
  • 17:35 - 17:38
    but I will go out.
I will act on Jesus' word,
  • 17:38 - 17:44
and I will invite my neighbors over
and sit with them and share the gospel.
  • 17:44 - 17:47
I will take this video with the gospel
    and share with them.
  • 17:47 - 17:49
That can be the first start with you.
  • 17:49 - 17:52
I will go public on Facebook
    and proclaim Jesus.
  • 17:53 - 17:57
    I don't know where you'll start,
but this is what I encourage you to do.
  • 17:58 - 18:04
    Remember the picture of Jesus,
    the lamb and the wolves.
  • 18:04 - 18:07
    Yes, you will feel fear.
  • 18:07 - 18:11
    But until the next time,
I really, really encourage you -
  • 18:11 - 18:13
    take some steps.
  • 18:13 - 18:18
Do something you have not done before,
when it comes to sharing Jesus,
  • 18:18 - 18:21
when it comes to open your mouth.
  • 18:21 - 18:25
    I remember the first time
I should have prayed loud -
  • 18:25 - 18:28
that was a big step for me.
  • 18:28 - 18:32
I remember the first time I should have
opened my mouth and talk about Jesus
  • 18:32 - 18:35
to somebody I did not know -
it was a big step for me.
  • 18:35 - 18:40
    I remember the first time
    I've done anything.
  • 18:40 - 18:43
    Why? Because all the beginnings
    are difficult.
  • 18:44 - 18:47
And especially when we talk about
    sharing Jesus.
  • 18:47 - 18:51
But I also saw that when I open
my mouth and share about Jesus...
  • 18:51 - 18:53
    Hallelujah!
    He was with me.
  • 18:53 - 18:56
    And it encouraged me,
    and I grew from there,
  • 18:56 - 19:02
and I saw what Jesus is saying:
The harvest is truly ready, truly plentiful.
  • 19:02 - 19:06
So, until next time, keep praying that
the workers will be sent out to the harvest,
  • 19:07 - 19:09
but also take a step in faith.
  • 19:09 - 19:12
Do something you have not done before.
  • 19:12 - 19:14
    Share Jesus with somebody.
  • 19:14 - 19:16
Do something you have not done before
  • 19:16 - 19:18
and see that He is with you.
  • 19:18 - 19:20
    See you next time!
    Bye-bye!
  • 19:23 - 19:24
