The Call of Jesus
-
Welcome to this lesson
"Do Not Greet Anyone on the Road".
-
I think this is a funny title of a video,
-
a funny title of a chapter in my book
"The Call of Jesus" -
-
"Do Not Greet Anyone on the Road".
-
But, actually, these are not my words.
-
These are Jesus' words.
-
And Jesus is saying this in Luke 10:4.
-
And often we read something like that,
what Jesus is saying in Luke 10:4,
-
and we so easy jump over it.
-
We just jump over it and think:
Oh, it doesn't mean so much.
-
But, there is, actually, a lot
in what Jesus is saying,
-
when He said:
"Don't greet anyone on the road."
-
And when we really understand it
and when we apply it...
-
it's going to change so much in our life.
-
So, it's not only for us to read about it,
-
especially not to jump over it,
-
it's for us to obey it.
-
We need to obey everything
Jesus is saying,
-
also when He said:
"Don't greet anyone on the road."
-
When He said that in Luke 10:4,
-
it's not because we are
not allowed to say: "Hi!", "Hey!"
-
It's not that we are not allowed to
send a greeting to somebody,
-
but it's because we are sent out
with a special purpose.
-
We are sent out to find somebody,
we are going to look at later.
-
We are sent out to find a person of peace
-
and there is so easy to get distracted.
-
It's so easy by falling into small talks
that we get distracted,
-
forgetting why we are here,
what it is Jesus wants us to do.
-
And let's just look at the churches,
our churches today.
-
How often do we see churches today which,
actually,
-
obey the call Jesus has given us in Luke 10?
-
How often do we see churches take people
into church and train them
-
and send them out two by two,
as we have been looking at?
-
This should be something every church
is doing.
-
Why? Because it's what Jesus
has called us to do.
-
In the beginning of the book we looked at
that we should not do church first,
-
mission later, and then Jesus in the end.
No, we should start with Jesus.
-
And we should start with His words
-
and we should start
with obeying what Jesus is saying.
-
And that is to send them out
two by two in the harvest that is ready.
-
And there Jesus also said,
in Luke 10:4:
-
"Do not greet anyone on the road."
-
We really need to wake up.
-
We really need to look at what Jesus
has called us to do
-
and don't be distracted
by everything else.
-
So, when Jesus said:
"Don't greet anyone on the road",
-
it was because He doesn't want us
to get distracted
-
in why we are here,
why we are sent.
-
Let me read something from my book
"The Call of Jesus".
-
"As you know, we are put here on earth
in Christ's place as His body
-
in order to continue what He has started.
-
If you take the time to look at Jesus,
you will see a Man who was really dedicated
-
in His mission here on earth.
-
Jesus did not let Himself be tempted or
distracted with what this world had to offer.
-
He was also not led by the needs
of the people around Him.
-
He was led by the Spirit of God,
and He only did the will of His Father.
-
Of course, we will never be exactly
like Jesus,
-
but He is still our Role Model,
and our goal in life is to be like Him."
-
Hallelujah! We should be like Jesus.
That is our goal. It's to be like Jesus.
-
And one thing with Jesus was He was
very, very focused in why He was here.
-
He was not led by needs, He did not get
distracted by what other people said.
-
He was very, very focused
on what He needed to do.
-
We also read that about Paul.
Paul was very focused.
-
He said this to the church
in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27:
-
"Do you not know that in a race all
the runners run, but only one gets the prize?
-
Run in such a way as you get the prize.
-
Everyone who competes in a game
goes into strict training.
-
They do it to get a crown
that will not last,
-
but we do it to get a crown
that will last forever.
-
Therefore I do not run like
someone running aimless;
-
I do not fight like a boxer
beating the air.
-
No, I strike a blow to my body
and make it slave
-
so that after I have preached for others,
-
I myself will not be disqualified
for the prize."
-
Paul here said: I'm very strict.
I don't just run aimless.
-
I'm not like a boxer who's just
hitting the air.
-
He was very focused in why he was here
and what to do.
-
But how many Christians today
are exactly like this,
-
like a boxer just beating the air.
-
Er... I don't know what to do with my life.
-
I don't know what the goal is.
-
And we are doing a little there
and a little there, and a little there,
-
try to do some mission,
but don't know what we are doing.
-
We do something, but we don't know why
-
we are doing what we are doing.
We don't know what to do.
-
We didn't really stop up and
look at the rules,
-
and look at what it is
Jesus has called us to do.
-
Jesus has given us a call...
-
and it's so easy to be distracted.
-
It's so easy to go wrong...
-
by other teachings, or go wrong
by church traditions.
-
It's so easy to just be blind...
-
and just stand there like a boxer
hitting the air.
-
But we don't want to be like them.
-
We want to obey Jesus' call.
-
We want to be a good and faithful servant
-
who has obeyed
what Jesus has called us to do.
-
We want to say like Paul.
We want to be like Paul.
-
Or we want to say like Jesus,
if we look at what Jesus is saying.
-
Jesus in John 4:34 said this:
-
"My food,' Jesus said, 'Is to do the will
of Him who sent Me and to finish His work."
-
In the next chapter (John 5:30)
He said this:
-
"By Myself I can do nothing; I judge only
as I hear, and My judgment is just,
-
for I seek not to please Myself
but Him who sent Me."
-
Next chapter, again, John 6:38:
-
"For I have come down from heaven
not to do my will
-
but to do the will of Him who sent Me."
-
This is what Jesus said in John 4,
John 5 and John 6.
-
Can you say the same?
-
Can you say: I'm not here
to just do my will.
-
I'm here to do the will of Him
who sent me.
-
I'm not here to do my own will,
but His will.
-
This is how we should live
as believers.
-
We are put here on earth
in Christ's place to obey Him,
-
to do what Jesus has called us
to do.
-
And if we want to be His disciples
-
and if we want to see good fruit
in our life,
-
we should be careful that
we don't get distracted.
-
And we should be ready to
count the cost and pay the price for it.
-
So please, listen to the call
Jesus has given you.
-
And please, don't get distracted
by so many other things,
-
small talks, and this, and this, and this.
-
Where we suddenly forget why we are here.
-
We forget what Jesus wants with our life.
-
We are called to be here in Christ's place
and continue His work.
-
We are called to continue what Jesus
wants us to do.
-
And that is to find the person of peace.
-
And that is to go out.
-
And when we find that person of peace,
stay with them,
-
eat and drink what they serve.
-
He has, actually, not just called us
to evangelize.
-
So many people just evangelize.
-
People just share a little Jesus
here and there
-
without really looking
for the person of peace,
-
without knowing why they are here.
-
And therefore I believe my book
"The Call of Jesus" and this video series
-
are so important because it will help you,
-
it will give you tools and show you
what it is Jesus wants you to do.
-
Yes, you are not just called to evangelize.
-
You are called to go out
and find that person of peace.
-
You are called to make disciples.
-
And maybe that person of peace
is already near you.
-
Maybe it's somebody from your
workplace, your neighbor,
-
but you don't think of it,
you don't pray over it.
-
You are so distracted,
you are so busy with so many other things.
-
You are so busy, so you don't stop up
and really look.
-
You are so busy in your everyday life.
-
You are so distracted by so many things
-
that time just flies and you never
really obey Jesus.
-
But when you stop up,
when you stop being distracted,
-
know why you are here and
start to obey the call Jesus has given you...
-
you will experience amazing things.
-
You will experience incredible things.
-
You will also experience persecution
because that is part of it.
-
And it will be hard sometimes,
but then you just look at Jesus.
-
It was also not easy for Jesus.
Jesus also experienced persecution.
-
You will experience persecution.
I will experience persecution.
-
So, I really encourage you -
don't get distracted.
-
Be focused on why you are here.
-
Jesus was focused to the end.
-
One of the things He needed to do,
of course,
-
was to die on the cross for you and me
and that was so important.
-
But also here, our enemy, Satan,
tried to distract Him.
-
Let's read some more from my book.
-
"One time, when Jesus was together
with His disciples,
-
He shared what was going to happen
to Him.
-
He shared how He must go to Jerusalem
and suffer many things
-
in the hands of the elders, chief priests,
and teachers of the law.
-
Jesus shared how they must kill Him
-
and how He would raise up the third day
(Matthew 16:21).
-
When He shared this to His disciples,
His good friend Peter rebuked Him and said,
-
'Never, Lord! This shall never happen to you!'
(Matthew 16:22).
-
Whoa!
This is crazy when you think about it!"
-
Try to think about this.
Try to think about this.
-
Here we have Jesus. Here Jesus was telling
what God wanted Him to do.
-
He was sharing the perfect will of God,
how God wanted Him to go to Jerusalem
-
and what was going to happen.
-
And what did He experience?
-
That His best friends,
or one of His best friends, Peter,
-
tried to get Him away from it.
-
Satan tried to use one of Jesus' best friends
to distract Him
-
in what God wanted Jesus to do.
-
And we are so thankful that Jesus
did not listen to that advice,
-
that Jesus did not let Himself
be distracted.
-
Because if Jesus had not gone to Jerusalem
and died on that cross,
-
we would all have been lost today.
-
People will also try to get you away
from obeying the call Jesus has given you.
-
People will try to distract you.
-
Don't listen to them.
-
Jesus answered Peter (Matthew 16:23):
"Get behind me, Satan!
-
You are a stumble block to me;
-
you do not have in mind the concerns on God,
but mainly human concerns."
-
"Get behind me, Satan!"
That was what Jesus said to Peter.
-
Or to that spirit behind Peter
-
who wanted to distract Jesus
from what He should do.
-
The same is with you and me.
-
When we start to obey Jesus' call,
there is a spirit,
-
and it can come from your best friend,
it can come from your pastor,
-
it can come from your neighbor,
-
it can come from many other people
around you who try to distract you
-
and get you away from obeying the truth,
-
get you away from doing what Jesus
has called you to do.
-
Don't listen to all of those lies.
-
Don't listen to all of those things
that try to distract you.
-
Focus on Jesus and His call
and keep obeying that.
-
When Jesus said to Peter:
"Whoa, behind be, Satan,"
-
it was not because Peter was evil,
in that sense,
-
but Peter did not understand
what it was God wanted for Jesus.
-
The same way is with you and me
today.
-
When we start to obey the call
Jesus has given us,
-
there are people who will go against it,
-
there are people who won't like it.
-
It's not because they are all evil,
but they just don't know.
-
They don't see the big picture.
-
They don't know what it is
Jesus has called us to do.
-
So I really, really encourage you -
-
don't be deceived by being
distracted.
-
Don't be distracted.
-
Also when it comes to listen to those
videos here,
-
reading my book,
reading the word of Jesus.
-
There are so many things,
especially these days, oh...
-
now there are so many things
about the virus, the end times.
-
It's good to keep you updated,
but still, you can easily be distracted
-
by so many other things
that are not important.
-
What is important?
-
It's Jesus and listening to His words
-
and obeying what Jesus has called us to do.
-
That is important.
-
So please don't get distracted.
Keep it simple.
-
Look at Jesus's words.
-
See the whole video series, please.
-
See all of them.
-
Also those you jump over them
and maybe have not seen,
-
because this is important,
-
because later I'm going to go back
and refer to those videos,
-
when we put it all together.
-
Read the book, if you can...
-
if you want to.
-
Don't get distracted.
Do what Jesus has called you to do.
-
Until next time, if you want,
get the book.
-
It's written in a very simple way.
-
You can get it on thelastreformation.com
or Amazon,
-
and, as I said before,
if you don't have the money,
-
then send an e-mail to
mail@thelastreformation.com
-
and just say: Hey, I don't have the money.
I would like to read the book
-
and then we can give you a code
and you can get the book
-
as an e-book for free.
-
Let us not be distracted.
-
Let us know why we are here
-
and let us know what Jesus
has called us to do
-
and let us obey His call,
-
and then we are going to see
amazing things.
-
And we are called for a time like this
-
and I'm very excited for the time
we are entering into.
-
It's the end time, a time where
the end times church
-
is going to rise and shine.
-
And the church, as we know it,
-
it's going to disappear.
-
It's time for us to see
if we are in Christ or not in Christ.
-
It's time for us to see
if we are building on sand
-
or building by wood and straw,
or we are building on the rock,
-
and doing the right thing,
by obeying the call Jesus has given us.
-
God bless you! See you next time!
Bye-bye!
