Call to Me and I Will Answer You (Jeremiah 33:3) - John Greene

  • 0:01 - 0:03
I think what the Lord has directed me to,
  • 0:03 - 0:06
and many of you don't have a Bible, and that's fine...
  • 0:06 - 0:09
Most of you probably know this verse already,
  • 0:09 - 0:13
It's in Jeremiah, the 33rd chapter, in the 3rd verse
  • 0:13 - 0:16
and what strikes me about this verse is that
  • 0:16 - 0:19
we are encouraging you to pray...
  • 0:19 - 0:22
we encourage our families to pray,
  • 0:22 - 0:25
we encourage our churches to be fervent in prayer
  • 0:25 - 0:28
But here, the Lord Himself is encouraging us to pray.
  • 0:28 - 0:33
This is the Lord's encouragement for us to pray.
  • 0:33 - 0:36
We should know our God is sovereign.
  • 0:36 - 0:41
He is all powerful; He calls the end from the beginning,
  • 0:41 - 0:43
    He ordains the end...
  • 0:43 - 0:46
But He also ordains the means to that end,
  • 0:46 - 0:50
And the means to the end, one of the means is prayer...
  • 0:50 - 0:55
it's fervent, effectual, constant prayer of the saints.
  • 0:55 - 0:57
If God's going to do something, He's going to
  • 0:57 - 1:01
move His people generally to pray before He does that.
  • 1:01 - 1:03
    In the 32nd chapter here,
  • 1:03 - 1:06
God is promising Jeremiah some things.
  • 1:06 - 1:08
Jeremiah is shut up in prison.
  • 1:08 - 1:10
He is promising him that He is going to
  • 1:10 - 1:12
take the people of Israel into captivity,
  • 1:12 - 1:16
but also there in verse 37, He says "I'm going to gather them
  • 1:16 - 1:19
back out of those countries, whether I have
  • 1:19 - 1:22
driven them in My anger, and My fury, and My wrath,
  • 1:22 - 1:24
I'm going to bring them again into this place,
  • 1:24 - 1:26
I'm going to cause them to dwell safely
  • 1:26 - 1:29
and they shall be My people, and I will be their God
  • 1:29 - 1:32
and I will give them one heart, one way that they may
  • 1:32 - 1:37
fear Me forever, for their good and their children after them,
  • 1:37 - 1:39
and I will make an everlasting covenant with them."
  • 1:39 - 1:44
Wonderful promises that are promised to you and I as well.
  • 1:44 - 1:48
So, Lord, how are You going to do this?
  • 1:48 - 1:51
He opens up chapter 33, he's still in prison,
  • 1:51 - 1:53
The Lord comes to Jeremiah again and He tells him
  • 1:53 - 1:55
how He's going to do this,
  • 1:55 - 1:58
and here's the verse, verse 3 of chapter 33,
  • 1:58 - 2:01
He says, "Call unto Me, and I will answer thee,
  • 2:01 - 2:06
and show thee great and mighty things that you do not know."
  • 2:06 - 2:08
I'm going to show you great things.
  • 2:08 - 2:12
I'm going to show you hidden things, that you don't yet know.
  • 2:12 - 2:16
This is how I'm going to answer My promise to you.
  • 2:16 - 2:18
    These hidden things.
  • 2:18 - 2:21
So, He commands us to pray.
  • 2:21 - 2:22
    "Call unto Me."
  • 2:22 - 2:24
This is encouragement for us to pray, brethren.
  • 2:24 - 2:25
    "Call unto Me."
  • 2:25 - 2:28
Can you imagine, the Almighty God, the God of Heaven,
  • 2:28 - 2:31
the Sovereign One, the Eternal One, Jehovah God,
  • 2:31 - 2:35
the self-existent God speaking to you and saying,
  • 2:35 - 2:37
    "Call unto Me."
  • 2:37 - 2:39
And we might bring this to our level...
  • 2:39 - 2:41
    "Give Me a call."
  • 2:41 - 2:42
    "Call me."
  • 2:42 - 2:45
You know I love it when my daughter or my son says,
  • 2:45 - 2:47
"Dad, call me. I need to talk to you."
  • 2:47 - 2:50
They don't do that very often, but I like that.
  • 2:50 - 2:52
This is our God saying, "Call Me."
  • 2:52 - 2:55
"Call unto Me and I will answer you."
  • 2:55 - 2:59
Not only I will answer you, but I'm going to show you
  • 2:59 - 3:03
some great and hidden things that you don't yet know.
  • 3:03 - 3:05
Now here we are at this conference,
  • 3:05 - 3:07
who knows what the Lord may do?
  • 3:07 - 3:11
Often times, seed is sown and it's weeks, months...
  • 3:11 - 3:15
even years before the fruit comes forth,
  • 3:15 - 3:19
but don't you have an expectation here?
  • 3:19 - 3:21
This is what this verse says,
  • 3:21 - 3:24
"Call unto Me and I'll answer you."
  • 3:24 - 3:27
This should be our expectation as we call upon the Lord.
  • 3:27 - 3:29
You're going to answer us, God, You promised.
  • 3:29 - 3:34
And not only that, You're going to enable us to experience something.
  • 3:34 - 3:36
Now we're not here just to go through the motions I hope...
  • 3:36 - 3:39
I hope we're here to experience God.
  • 3:39 - 3:41
What do we want to see?
  • 3:41 - 3:44
We want to see God working in our own lives personally,
  • 3:44 - 3:47
We want to make advances; we want to reach higher ground, brethren.
  • 3:47 - 3:51
We want to be more faithful than we were when we got here.
  • 3:51 - 3:54
We want to go home with our wagons loaded,
  • 3:54 - 3:56
and walking in the light that God gives us.
  • 3:57 - 3:59
But we want to see this in our families, and in our marriages,
  • 3:59 - 4:01
    and in our churches.
  • 4:01 - 4:02
What a blessing last night was!
  • 4:02 - 4:05
Practical, real helps for the people of God.
  • 4:05 - 4:07
So, how's this all going to happen?
  • 4:08 - 4:11
    Well, pray.
  • 4:11 - 4:15
"Call unto Me. I'll answer you and I'll show you
  • 4:15 - 4:19
great and mighty things that you have not yet seen."
  • 4:19 - 4:21
Paul says it this way in the New Testament:
  • 4:21 - 4:24
"Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard,
  • 4:24 - 4:26
neither has it entered into the heart of man
  • 4:26 - 4:31
the things that God has revealed to those that love Him.
  • 4:31 - 4:33
Who knows what the Lord may do?
  • 4:33 - 4:36
Who knows what great things the Lord is going to reveal
  • 4:36 - 4:41
to each of us, through prayer,
  • 4:41 - 4:43
through conversations that we might have
  • 4:43 - 4:47
with others, through fellowship, through singing,
  • 4:47 - 4:51
through encouragements; God breaking strongholds of sin,
  • 4:51 - 4:54
    God opening eyes...
  • 4:54 - 4:57
You know I've had many conversations through the years,
  • 4:57 - 5:00
And someone will share something with me,
  • 5:00 - 5:03
and it's just like the voice of God has spoken...
  • 5:03 - 5:07
    I hear. I hear. I understand.
  • 5:07 - 5:11
And so, let us pray, brethren. God is encouraging us to pray.
  • 5:11 - 5:15
"Call unto Me. I will answer you, and I'm going to show you
  • 5:15 - 5:19
great and hidden things that you don't even know yet."
  • 5:19 - 5:23
And when we leave here, we go home, next week, next month...
  • 5:23 - 5:24
maybe we can raise an Ebenezer
  • 5:24 - 5:27
and say, "Lord, You've brought me this far...
  • 5:27 - 5:30
and You've used even this weekend,
  • 5:30 - 5:33
    this conference, these prayer meetings,
  • 5:33 - 5:37
    these preaching meetings, these conversations,
  • 5:37 - 5:40
    these times of fellowship...
  • 5:40 - 5:43
You've used this to advance Your kingdom."
  • 5:43 - 5:49
And it's a very easy verse to remember. Call 333. Jeremiah 33:3.
  • 5:49 - 5:52
"Call unto Me. I will answer you and show you
  • 5:52 - 5:55
great and mighty things that you don't know."
