Will You Trust in Christ or Yourself? (Vlog)

  • 0:10 - 0:12
The biggest sin that I was holding on to
  • 0:12 - 0:14
    was my doubts and unbelief
  • 0:14 - 0:15
in the Lord Jesus Christ -
  • 0:15 - 0:18
    that He was able to save my soul;
  • 0:18 - 0:21
    to just trust in Him.
  • 0:21 - 0:22
And it would always be like,
  • 0:22 - 0:25
ok, I trust in Him, and then...
  • 0:25 - 0:27
Ok, I've got to repent and
    believe in that enough;
  • 0:27 - 0:30
I've got to keep trusting in Him
  • 0:30 - 0:31
and that will save my soul.
  • 0:31 - 0:33
I've got to keep believing Him
and that will save my soul.
  • 0:33 - 0:35
    I've got to repent enough;
  • 0:35 - 0:36
turn away from my sin enough,
  • 0:36 - 0:38
and that will save my soul.
  • 0:38 - 0:40
I mean, the Gospel to me
  • 0:40 - 0:42
    was pretty much a law.
  • 0:42 - 0:45
    It was repent and believe,
  • 0:45 - 0:48
and you won't go to hell.
  • 0:48 - 0:50
    But it was different.
  • 0:50 - 0:51
    It was a law.
  • 0:51 - 0:53
It wasn't the free grace of God in it
  • 0:53 - 0:55
    that God would save me.
  • 0:55 - 0:58
It was like, oh, I'm going to seek You
  • 0:58 - 1:00
with all my heart and soul
  • 1:00 - 1:04
and then I'm going to bend Your arm, God.
  • 1:04 - 1:08
I'm going to try and pray enough.
  • 1:08 - 1:10
    I'm going to seek You
  • 1:10 - 1:14
    and it never sufficed.
  • 1:14 - 1:17
There's never completeness in it all.
  • 1:17 - 1:19
    It would always fail,
  • 1:19 - 1:20
    even though I sought God;
  • 1:20 - 1:22
    cried out to Him;
  • 1:22 - 1:24
prayed, thought good thoughts about Him.
  • 1:24 - 1:25
    It didn't suffice.
  • 1:25 - 1:27
God wasn't looking at my works
  • 1:27 - 1:28
    even though I prayed good.
  • 1:28 - 1:30
    I mean before, I actually thought -
  • 1:30 - 1:33
when I was thinking I was a Christian
  • 1:33 - 1:35
    and everything like that,
  • 1:35 - 1:37
I thought, man, look at my performance.
  • 1:37 - 1:39
I just prayed really good there.
  • 1:39 - 1:40
    Then all of a sudden,
  • 1:40 - 1:41
I would even have the thought
  • 1:41 - 1:43
    but that doesn't matter.
  • 1:43 - 1:44
    You know Christ matters.
  • 1:44 - 1:46
    And then that right there,
  • 1:46 - 1:47
    because I said that,
  • 1:47 - 1:49
that was my performance right there.
  • 1:49 - 1:51
    Because I was acknowledging that
  • 1:51 - 1:52
    it's Christ's work.
  • 1:52 - 1:55
    And me pointing to Christ
    and saying, "it's His."
  • 1:55 - 1:59
That was how I was performing before God.
  • 1:59 - 2:00
And that's what I was holding on to.
  • 2:00 - 2:02
    I was holding on to:
  • 2:02 - 2:03
    I'm a special case.
  • 2:03 - 2:05
    I mean, I can't believe...
  • 2:05 - 2:07
    woe is me.
  • 2:07 - 2:08
    The big thing was,
  • 2:08 - 2:10
God was pointing at me and saying,
  • 2:10 - 2:11
    you won't believe.
  • 2:11 - 2:14
My Gospel is free and it
    extends its arm to you.
  • 2:14 - 2:17
    Nothing holds you back
    from trusting in My Son.
  • 2:17 - 2:20
You're the one that won't come.
  • 2:20 - 2:23
    And I kept thinking,
  • 2:23 - 2:26
    well, I guess I'll wait.
  • 2:26 - 2:28
    Wait for that special feeling.
  • 2:28 - 2:29
    The more I waited,
  • 2:29 - 2:32
the fruit of waiting came more doubts
  • 2:32 - 2:34
    and unbelief about God.
  • 2:34 - 2:36
    Hatred towards Him and everything.
  • 2:36 - 2:38
And then, ok, I'm going to cry out to Him.
  • 2:38 - 2:39
    People would tell me,
  • 2:39 - 2:41
    cry out to the Lord.
  • 2:41 - 2:43
If you really cry out to
    Him, He'll answer you.
  • 2:43 - 2:44
    I was like, ok.
  • 2:44 - 2:45
So I cried out to Him,
  • 2:45 - 2:47
    and I'm thinking about Him
  • 2:47 - 2:47
    and trying...
  • 2:47 - 2:52
I was trusting in my crying out to Him.
  • 2:52 - 2:55
I came to a point where
  • 2:55 - 2:58
    I can just believe in
    the Lord Jesus Christ,
  • 2:58 - 3:00
that it was His prayers that were
  • 3:00 - 3:02
    100% completely perfect.
  • 3:02 - 3:05
And all that merit of Him is now
  • 3:05 - 3:08
    imputed to my account.
  • 3:08 - 3:10
Not that I'm perfect and righteous
  • 3:10 - 3:11
    in my own self,
  • 3:11 - 3:14
    but there's righteousness in Him.
  • 3:14 - 3:16
And if I keep believing in Him
  • 3:16 - 3:17
    and trusting in Him -
  • 3:17 - 3:19
    not that these are works
    or anything like that,
  • 3:19 - 3:21
    but it's a ceasing -
  • 3:21 - 3:22
    giving up and saying,
  • 3:22 - 3:23
    He has a righteousness
  • 3:23 - 3:26
that's going to pay for all my sin.
  • 3:26 - 3:29
His death pays for all my sin.
  • 3:29 - 3:32
It's His righteousness that covers me
  • 3:32 - 3:33
    and clothes me.
  • 3:33 - 3:36
And God looks at me with love now
  • 3:36 - 3:37
    because of Christ
  • 3:37 - 3:39
    and not because of myself.
  • 3:39 - 3:42
    There's absolutely nothing inside me
  • 3:42 - 3:44
that I can come to God with.
  • 3:44 - 3:47
It has to come from outside.
  • 3:47 - 3:49
    There has to be Christ.
  • 3:49 - 3:50
    If I don't have Christ,
  • 3:50 - 3:52
    then I don't have that
    propitiation that He's made,
  • 3:52 - 3:54
how can I come to God?
  • 3:54 - 3:56
I mean, if I didn't see the Gospel,
  • 3:56 - 3:59
all I would be doing is
    trying to bend God's arm,
  • 3:59 - 4:00
    even though I was condemned.
  • 4:00 - 4:04
I was a vile, filthy sinner before Him.
  • 4:04 - 4:06
I mean, we hope in the Lord
  • 4:06 - 4:08
    because He saves.
  • 4:08 - 4:10
We pray to God because He answers.
  • 4:10 - 4:12
I mean, we look to Christ
  • 4:12 - 4:14
    because He saves us.
  • 4:14 - 4:17
    He steps in our place
  • 4:17 - 4:19
    when we should be there.
  • 4:19 - 4:22
I mean, it's to the one who does not work
  • 4:22 - 4:25
    but believes in Him Who
    justifies the ungodly,
  • 4:25 - 4:28
his faith - the person who does not work
  • 4:28 - 4:31
    and believes in God who
    justifies the ungodly,
  • 4:31 - 4:33
his faith is counted as righteousness.
  • 4:33 - 4:36
    Not the person who trusts in his works;
  • 4:36 - 4:37
    trusts in his prayers;
  • 4:37 - 4:39
    and trusts in his sighs
  • 4:39 - 4:41
and says, oh wow, I did good this time.
  • 4:41 - 4:43
He doesn't have any peace from God.
  • 4:43 - 4:46
God might give him up to that
  • 4:46 - 4:48
and give him a peace in it,
  • 4:48 - 4:51
and He'd be perfectly just in doing that.
  • 4:51 - 4:54
    But in His mercy,
  • 4:54 - 4:56
He causes no peace for that person.
  • 4:56 - 4:59
    That person, like me,
  • 4:59 - 5:01
    that was trying to repent,
  • 5:01 - 5:02
    trying to believe,
  • 5:02 - 5:04
    trying to come to God,
  • 5:04 - 5:08
    trying and doing anything
  • 5:08 - 5:10
    to come to God
  • 5:10 - 5:14
outside of His Son and what He's done,
  • 5:14 - 5:15
    it's nothing.
  • 5:15 - 5:16
I can't give God my heart
  • 5:16 - 5:18
    and then God's going
    to give me His heart.
  • 5:18 - 5:19
    No.
  • 5:19 - 5:21
    God comes down and says,
  • 5:21 - 5:22
    here's My Son.
  • 5:22 - 5:23
    Do you consent?
  • 5:23 - 5:25
    Will you believe in Him?
  • 5:25 - 5:26
    This is My beloved Son.
  • 5:26 - 5:27
    I'm well pleased with Him.
  • 5:27 - 5:29
He's willing to take your place.
  • 5:29 - 5:31
    Will you trust Him?
  • 5:31 - 5:33
    And then people would go,
  • 5:33 - 5:35
    well, what about election?
  • 5:35 - 5:38
Find your election in Jesus Christ.
  • 5:38 - 5:40
Election has done but saved people.
  • 5:40 - 5:42
    If He didn't elect,
  • 5:42 - 5:44
we'd all be like Sodom and Gomorrah.
  • 5:44 - 5:46
    Totally trashed.
  • 5:46 - 5:49
    Everything would be totally gone.
  • 5:49 - 5:51
There would be no salvation for anybody.
  • 5:51 - 5:53
    But because God saves...
  • 5:53 - 5:55
    God is a loving God
  • 5:55 - 5:56
    and we're wicked.
  • 5:56 - 5:58
    The thing is,
  • 5:58 - 5:59
we have a wrong view about God
  • 5:59 - 6:01
    when we start going,
    well, I don't know if I'm elect.
  • 6:01 - 6:03
    Because we're saying, God,
    You're a tyrant.
  • 6:03 - 6:05
You're the person that elects people,
  • 6:05 - 6:07
    and I guess I'm just
    going to have to wait.
  • 6:07 - 6:09
    And we sit around waiting
  • 6:09 - 6:11
and just harbor bad thoughts about God,
  • 6:11 - 6:16
    instead of coming to
    Him exactly as we are.
  • 6:16 - 6:17
    He is loving.
  • 6:17 - 6:19
    God is love.
  • 6:19 - 6:22
    And He gives a righteousness
  • 6:22 - 6:24
    to sinners.
  • 6:24 - 6:25
People who just come to Him
  • 6:25 - 6:26
    exactly as they are.
  • 6:26 - 6:27
Not trying to put on a show.
  • 6:27 - 6:30
Just saying, God, I hate you.
  • 6:30 - 6:31
    I mean literally,
  • 6:31 - 6:34
you can come to God exactly as you are.
  • 6:34 - 6:38
But don't expect to stay like that.
    Because His love encompasses you.
  • 6:38 - 6:41
John 5:39-40 "You search the Scriptures because
    you think that in them you have eternal life;
  • 6:41 - 6:44
and it is they that bear witness about Me, yet you
refused to come to Me that you may have life."
