OTP Learning Series 09: How to edit titles and descriptions

This tutorial explains how to edit titles and descriptions in translations of TED and TED-Ed videos and in TEDx transcripts.

[How to edit titles and descriptions]

Before you submit your translation
or transcription work,

don't forget to edit the title
and description of the talk.

You can find the title
and description dialogue

in every TED, TEDx and TED-Ed talk

in the top-left corner
in the subtitle editor.

To access that section,
click the pencil icon.

When you are translating a TED talk,

fill in the title,

speaker's name

and description, in your language.

When working on TED-Ed videos,

in addition to translating
the title and description,

remember to keep the link
to the full TED-Ed lesson

that accompanies the video.

Also, translate the phrases
"Lesson by" and "animation by"

at the end of the description.

When you are working on a TEDx talk,

make sure to use the TEDx title
and description standards.

The standard title format
uses the talk's title,

the speaker's name,

and the TEDx event's name,

separated with the vertical bar character

with a space before and after it.

If the title is formatted differently,

modify it to match the standard format.

Do not add the event's date
or any other information.

TEDx event names are branded terms

and should not be translated

or written with a space
between "TEDx" and the event's name.

When transcribing
or translating TEDx talks,

please remember to keep the disclaimer
and translate it in your language.

The disclaimer can go before
or after the description.

You will find a link to the official
translations of the disclaimer

in the video description below.

The description should
consist of a short overview of the talk.

If it's not too long,
you can also keep the speaker's bio.

If a description is missing,

write a short description
of the talk on your own.

Remember that the language
of the title and description

should match the language of the talk.

Do not put English titles
and descriptions on non-English talks.

The general text explaining
what the TEDx program is

should be left out
and should not be translated.

After you are done
with the title and description,

you can click "Done" in the dialogue

and then submit your work.
