Do You Have Integrity? - Tim Conway - Excerpt

  • 0:05 - 0:08
You know what's true about a trial?
  • 0:08 - 0:11
    The same thing that's true
  • 0:11 - 0:14
about a man who gives his word.
  • 0:14 - 0:19
He swears to his own hurt
  • 0:19 - 0:22
    and he changes not.
  • 0:22 - 0:24
    When a man of integrity
  • 0:24 - 0:30
is confronted by a path that's easy,
  • 0:30 - 0:34
but to take the easy path means
  • 0:34 - 0:37
I have to forfeit my integrity,
  • 0:37 - 0:41
    versus a path that hurts,
  • 0:41 - 0:44
    but to walk it,
  • 0:44 - 0:46
to walk the path of integrity,
  • 0:46 - 0:48
I'm going to have to suffer the pain.
  • 0:48 - 0:50
And this comes back to trials
  • 0:50 - 0:53
    because in trials,
  • 0:53 - 0:56
    we're faced with what temptation?
  • 0:56 - 1:01
We're faced with going through the trial.
  • 1:01 - 1:03
    Typically, one of the things
  • 1:03 - 1:06
that is true about the trial
  • 1:06 - 1:09
is that to go through it
    in a way of integrity
  • 1:09 - 1:12
    means that there's going
    to be certain suffering.
  • 1:12 - 1:18
    And many times, there
    are ways out of trials.
  • 1:18 - 1:21
    You see, the person that
is not a person of integrity
  • 1:21 - 1:26
will seek to avoid pain at all costs
  • 1:26 - 1:29
even though it will cost them their honor
  • 1:29 - 1:35
    or cost them their honesty.
  • 1:35 - 1:38
    How about mistakes?
  • 1:38 - 1:40
    When people fail?
  • 1:40 - 1:42
    There is a place too
  • 1:42 - 1:45
where a person's integrity will show.
  • 1:45 - 1:48
Because I'll tell you this about David.
  • 1:48 - 1:50
When he was confronted by his sin,
  • 1:50 - 1:51
    he admitted it.
  • 1:51 - 1:55
A man without integrity will seek
  • 1:55 - 1:57
to hide what he has done.
  • 1:57 - 2:02
He won't seek to admit what he's done.
  • 2:02 - 2:04
    Mistakes.
  • 2:04 - 2:06
    Honesty.
  • 2:06 - 2:09
    You live in this house.
  • 2:09 - 2:12
    Integrity says, I come home.
  • 2:12 - 2:14
    I'm famished.
  • 2:14 - 2:17
    Go to the refrigerator.
  • 2:17 - 2:19
    There's a half-eaten sandwich.
  • 2:19 - 2:21
Integrity says that doesn't belong to me.
  • 2:21 - 2:23
I'm not going to eat it.
  • 2:23 - 2:25
    You know what integrity says?
  • 2:25 - 2:29
You take a soda at Fatty's or a water
  • 2:29 - 2:33
    and you pay for it.
  • 2:33 - 2:37
Integrity says that when I know the boss
  • 2:37 - 2:39
    is out sick that day,
  • 2:39 - 2:43
I don't mark it down as a play day.
  • 2:43 - 2:46
I work just as hard as if he was there.
  • 2:46 - 2:49
    And you know what
motivates a man to do that?
  • 2:49 - 2:51
A man who knows that in all of his actions
  • 2:51 - 2:53
    God is there.
  • 2:53 - 2:55
    And God is watching.
  • 2:55 - 2:58
    And God vindicates and upholds
  • 2:58 - 3:02
    and protects and allows
    access to His holy hill,
  • 3:02 - 3:04
    men of integrity.
  • 3:04 - 3:07
    You see, a person who
    really longs for Christ
  • 3:07 - 3:10
and longs for intimacy with God knows
  • 3:10 - 3:13
that the person of integrity has access
  • 3:13 - 3:14
    to His holy hill
  • 3:14 - 3:16
and will be invited very often
  • 3:16 - 3:20
    into the intimate place that
    people without integrity
  • 3:20 - 3:21
    are not invited into.
  • 3:21 - 3:22
    And I'll tell you this.
  • 3:22 - 3:26
    There are degrees of integrity
    among God's children.
  • 3:26 - 3:28
    That degree of integrity,
  • 3:28 - 3:30
those who have the highest degrees of it
  • 3:30 - 3:34
    are granted access into
    the most privileged places
  • 3:34 - 3:36
more than those who don't have it.
  • 3:36 - 3:39
And if you really desire to be there,
  • 3:39 - 3:42
    you who walk before God,
  • 3:42 - 3:44
you know that He's watching you.
  • 3:44 - 3:47
    "A man's ways are before
    the eyes of the Lord."
  • 3:47 - 3:51
    Proverbs 5:21, "...and He
    ponders all his paths."
  • 3:51 - 3:54
    I'll tell you, when you
    come to that refrigerator,
  • 3:54 - 3:55
    men who live here,
  • 3:55 - 3:57
    and you find something
    in that refrigerator
  • 3:57 - 3:58
    that doesn't belong to you,
  • 3:58 - 4:01
God is there and He's pondering your path.
  • 4:01 - 4:04
When you go and you pull
    that soda out at Fatty's,
  • 4:04 - 4:07
God is there and He's pondering the path.
  • 4:07 - 4:08
    When you walk through life,
  • 4:08 - 4:10
    when you're telling the story,
  • 4:10 - 4:11
    and you embellish it
  • 4:11 - 4:14
and you add facts that make you look good,
  • 4:14 - 4:16
    but aren't exactly true
    and you stretch things,
  • 4:16 - 4:18
God is there and He's weighing out
  • 4:18 - 4:21
your words in the balance and He knows.
  • 4:21 - 4:23
And a man of integrity will purposely
  • 4:23 - 4:25
    not overembellish a story.
  • 4:25 - 4:28
    He will purposely under-embellish it
  • 4:28 - 4:32
lest he be found a liar
    in the sight of God.
  • 4:32 - 4:36
    Integrity. Do you have it?
  • 4:36 - 4:38
Young people, do you have it?
  • 4:38 - 4:41
Those of you that live in this house -
  • 4:41 - 4:43
it's amazing that one of the things
  • 4:43 - 4:47
that we want to encourage is integrity
  • 4:47 - 4:49
    for those young men
    that live in this house.
  • 4:49 - 4:50
You know what's amazing to me
  • 4:50 - 4:52
is this last first of the month,
  • 4:52 - 4:55
    the guys that are supposed
    to pay their money
  • 4:55 - 4:57
on the first Sunday of the month,
  • 4:57 - 5:00
we had four of the men not pay.
  • 5:00 - 5:01
And some of those men are men
  • 5:01 - 5:04
that are members of our church.
  • 5:04 - 5:05
    Integrity, men.
  • 5:05 - 5:07
    Integrity, ladies.
  • 5:07 - 5:09
    Do you give your word
  • 5:09 - 5:10
that you're going to do something?
  • 5:10 - 5:11
    Do you give your word
  • 5:11 - 5:14
that you're going to be on time at a job?
  • 5:14 - 5:16
    Do you take a job
  • 5:16 - 5:17
    and you tell your boss
  • 5:17 - 5:18
    I'm going to do this?
  • 5:18 - 5:20
I'll do this. I'll work for you.
  • 5:20 - 5:22
    I give you my word.
  • 5:22 - 5:26
    And then, are you found
    to work half-hearted?
  • 5:26 - 5:30
Half as much as the people that
    are lost in that workplace?
  • 5:30 - 5:31
This is a matter of integrity.
  • 5:31 - 5:34
There is a God that sees.
  • 5:34 - 5:36
    2 Chronicles 16:9,
  • 5:36 - 5:39
"The eyes of the Lord run to and fro
  • 5:39 - 5:41
    throughout the whole earth
  • 5:41 - 5:44
to give strong support to those
  • 5:44 - 5:47
whose heart is blameless toward Him."
  • 5:47 - 5:51
    His eyes.
  • 5:51 - 5:55
As the Bible likens this to that of a man
  • 5:55 - 6:00
    that we can imagine God,
  • 6:00 - 6:03
His eyes are running to and fro
  • 6:03 - 6:05
    all the time,
  • 6:05 - 6:07
    back and forth,
  • 6:07 - 6:09
and what is He looking for?
  • 6:09 - 6:12
    Men and women of integrity.
  • 6:12 - 6:13
    I'll tell you this,
  • 6:13 - 6:15
you know what the motivation is
  • 6:15 - 6:17
to live a life of integrity?
  • 6:17 - 6:20
    It's faith that truly believes
  • 6:20 - 6:23
that even when no one else is watching,
  • 6:23 - 6:25
    God knows
  • 6:25 - 6:28
    and He's weighing it all
    out in His balances.
  • 6:28 - 6:30
    And based on your decisions,
  • 6:30 - 6:32
    based on your honesty,
  • 6:32 - 6:35
    based on your integrity,
  • 6:35 - 6:38
you are going to be granted access
  • 6:38 - 6:40
    to greater and lesser degrees
  • 6:40 - 6:42
    to His very holy place
  • 6:42 - 6:45
    and to communion with Him
  • 6:45 - 6:47
    and Him preserving you.
  • 6:47 - 6:50
And when you walk a life like that,
  • 6:50 - 6:53
you can go into your prayer place
  • 6:53 - 6:54
    and you can say,
  • 6:54 - 6:58
"Father, I ask You for this
  • 6:58 - 7:01
    based on my integrity."
  • 7:01 - 7:04
And that is not an unbiblical way to pray.
  • 7:04 - 7:06
But it is an unbiblical way to pray
  • 7:06 - 7:12
    if you don't have integrity.
  • 7:12 - 7:16
    I call you to it.
  • 7:16 - 7:18
"The Lord is in His holy temple."
  • 7:18 - 7:19
    Psalm 11:4 says,
  • 7:19 - 7:21
"The Lord's throne is in Heaven.
  • 7:21 - 7:23
    His eyes see.
  • 7:23 - 7:30
His eyelids test the children of man."
  • 7:30 - 7:33
We can't hide ourselves before the Lord.
  • 7:33 - 7:36
He tests all of our ways.
  • 7:36 - 7:40
There is your motivation for integrity.
  • 7:40 - 7:43
The Lord before Whom you walk.
  • 7:43 - 7:48
The Lord before Whom you live.
  • 7:48 - 7:53
    The Lord before Whom
  • 7:53 - 7:56
you must carry out your ways
  • 7:56 - 7:59
and your words and your thoughts,
  • 7:59 - 8:02
Whose eyes are running to and fro
  • 8:02 - 8:04
    constantly looking.
  • 8:04 - 8:06
    Isn't it amazing?
  • 8:06 - 8:10
    The Lord is specifically looking
  • 8:10 - 8:17
    for people of integrity.
  • 8:17 - 8:21
    Young people,
  • 8:21 - 8:26
    don't cut corners on integrity.
  • 8:26 - 8:35
    Don't be half-hearted.
  • 8:35 - 8:37
    Dwell on these things.
  • 8:37 - 8:39
It's only of faith that believes
  • 8:39 - 8:41
    what I've said tonight.
  • 8:41 - 8:44
It's only of faith that believes.
  • 8:44 - 8:48
It's only a person that lives
  • 8:48 - 8:53
in an awareness of the presence of God
  • 8:53 - 8:56
    and believes God is here,
  • 8:56 - 8:57
    God is present,
  • 8:57 - 8:59
    God is watching,
  • 8:59 - 9:01
    God is concerned,
  • 9:01 - 9:03
    God is weighing,
  • 9:03 - 9:07
God's eyes are running to and fro.
  • 9:07 - 9:14
    It's only with that conviction
  • 9:14 - 9:16
    that you will be motivated
  • 9:16 - 9:19
to live a life of integrity.
  • 9:19 - 9:23
Guarantee, that is the driving force.
  • 9:23 - 9:26
    That is the driving conviction.
  • 9:26 - 9:29
Well, may God help us to do so.
