How To Stay Sane During The Holidays!
Description:

Everyone is expecting us to get the perfect gift, afford those gifts, make time for all of the get togethers and parties, and love every minute. It can honestly just be too much! Not to mention that this is the time of year when it’s winter and the days are shorter, so we may never even see sunlight for weeks on end. Hello Seasonal Affective Disorder. And if you don’t remember SAD is a subtype of major depressive disorder or MDD. It is similar to MDD, but instead of not enjoying things and maybe struggling to concentrate, SAD’s most common symptoms are over sleeping, overeating, irritability, low energy, weight gain, and we can be extra sensitive to any kind of rejection. If you think that you may be struggling with seasonal affective disorder please reach out to a therapist in your area and possibly a psychiatrist because CBT and medication can really really help.

Now all of the hustle and bustle of the holidays can throw a wrench into our schedule and cause our mental health to completely derail, so let’s get into some tips and tricks on how you can best stay sane during the holidays.
1. Set a schedule. Now I know it can feel like things are flying at you from all directions and you are just trying to stay afloat, but we really do have some idea of what we need to get finished, what gifts need to be bought, and what events we have to go to.
2. Set a budget. While we are on this planning, prepping kick, let’s set a budget for gifts.
3. Have an out. We often plan and plan, but don’t schedule any time for ourselves. So go back to number 1 and make sure you scheduled some down time.
4. Manage your expectations. I blame social media or maybe just media as a whole. Every commercial or post seems to scream, I have the best most loving and attractive family there is. And we all get along so easily. Ugh. No one’s family is like that and so let’s take some time to set realistic expectations.
5. Take time to be grateful. Just like I talk about all the time, focus on the positive things. Sure life can suck and people can be jerks, but why would we want to spend any of our precious time thinking about that. Let’s take some time to write down all of the things we are grateful for.
6. Except it’s going to be hard, but it will be over soon.
