Dance Ability training fundraiser - India Harville

  • 0:00 - 0:04
Hi everyone, thanks for tuning into this video.
  • 0:04 - 0:05
    My name's India Harville,
  • 0:05 - 0:10
and I'm asking for money for
an upcoming mixed abilities dance training
  • 0:10 - 0:11
    I'm doing with Danceability.
  • 0:11 - 0:14
Mixed abilities dance is an art form
  • 0:14 - 0:16
that includes all types of people
  • 0:16 - 0:18
inside of the world of dance.
  • 0:18 - 0:20
    From people who are Deaf,
  • 0:20 - 0:21
    to people who are blind,
  • 0:21 - 0:24
to anyone with any kind of disability.
  • 0:24 - 0:25
    So it's an amazing experience
  • 0:25 - 0:28
    where everyone can be included.
  • 0:28 - 0:30
    [MUSIC...]
  • 0:38 - 0:39
  • 0:39 - 0:43
I was diagnosed with something called
    Complex Migraines.
  • 0:43 - 0:46
My migraines are a little more intense
    than the average migraine,
  • 0:46 - 0:49
    and they include seizures, paralysis,
  • 0:49 - 0:53
    and other tough neurological symptoms.
  • 0:53 - 0:55
    Before that, I loved dancing.
  • 0:55 - 0:58
It was my favourite thing to do in the world.
  • 0:58 - 1:01
And once I got sick, I couldn't do it.
  • 1:01 - 1:06
And all I wanted to do
    was get back to dancing.
  • 1:06 - 1:08
And then I got a wheelchair.
  • 1:08 - 1:11
And I started going to classes in a wheelchair,
    and that was awesome.
  • 1:11 - 1:14
I was finally back in the classroom.
  • 1:14 - 1:17
But it didn't always work in some classes.
  • 1:17 - 1:21
Some classes weren't made for a dancer
    who was using a wheelchair.
  • 1:21 - 1:24
And so, I had to find places where I could dance
  • 1:24 - 1:27
in my chair, and out of my chair.
  • 1:27 - 1:30
    And that's when I discovered
    mixed abilities dance.
  • 1:30 - 1:35
I've had a wonderful time dancing with all kinds
of dancers in the mixed abilities community.
  • 1:35 - 1:38
Deaf folks, blind folks, you name it.
  • 1:38 - 1:41
    I'm actually in a company
    that does mixed abilities dance.
  • 1:41 - 1:44
So take a peek at this clip
    of our work in progress.
  • 1:44 - 1:47
    [GROUP A CAPELLA SINGING...]
  • 2:19 - 2:21
So here are all the details.
  • 2:21 - 2:22
There are 2 parts to this training.
  • 2:22 - 2:26
One's in May, one's in December,
    both are in Austin Texas.
  • 2:26 - 2:29
Danceability -the company sponsoring the training-
  • 2:29 - 2:33
already gave me a scholarship for
    half the tuition. WOOHOO!! YES!
  • 2:33 - 2:35
    So that's halfway there.
  • 2:35 - 2:39
Now I need to raise $6,000
to cover all of my other expenses.
  • 2:39 - 2:43
    Now I need to raise the other $900 for tuition;
  • 2:43 - 2:47
    then I'll also need 2 round trip tickets to Texas;
  • 2:47 - 2:50
I'll need to rent a car and be able to
    keep my wheelchair with me;
  • 2:50 - 2:52
    I'll need housing while I'm there;
  • 2:52 - 2:57
I'll also need to make sure I can keep my
    very strict paleo diet that supports my health;
  • 2:57 - 3:00
and I'll need some money for my attendants
  • 3:00 - 3:02
who help me get ready to travel
  • 3:02 - 3:04
    and who help me
when I come home from traveling.
  • 3:04 - 3:07
Cause traveling is still very hard on my body.
  • 3:08 - 3:10
    Any contribution you can make
    will help so much.
  • 3:10 - 3:14
Because without your support, I won't be able
    to make this trip happen.
  • 3:14 - 3:17
So thank you for watching this video,
    and have a great day.
  • 3:17 - 3:18
    Bye!
