Thanksgiving! The Eating Disorder Video by Kati Morton - Healthy Mind, Healthy Body!

  • Not Synced
    Hey everyone!
  • Not Synced
    Thanks for checking back.
  • Not Synced
This week's video is about the holidays, thanksgiving
  • Not Synced
all those stupid things that we hate that revolve around food.
  • Not Synced
So hang on, I'm going to talk to you about it.
  • Not Synced
    So, here in the States,
  • Not Synced
cause I know many of you are all over the worldwide watching this,
  • Not Synced
    but here in the states,
  • Not Synced
    it's november.
  • Not Synced
It's creeping up on the end of november
  • Not Synced
    Thanksgiving is coming! AHH!
  • Not Synced
    Everybody is freaking out.
  • Not Synced
And I've been hearing from many of you
  • Not Synced
    I'm already worried.
  • Not Synced
Isn't it too early to be worried already?
  • Not Synced
About thanksgiving? But I've been thinking about it!
  • Not Synced
    AHH!
  • Not Synced
    Right?
  • Not Synced
    We're all freaking out.
  • Not Synced
And I know that Canada, all my Canadians
  • Not Synced
    whut?
  • Not Synced
    You already had Thanksgiving.
  • Not Synced
and I'm sorry that I missed that.
  • Not Synced
But I do have my coping with the holidays video.
  • Not Synced
And I hope you checked that out.
  • Not Synced
And for many of you, you can go back and check that out now.
  • Not Synced
But this is a time of the year,
  • Not Synced
right? We're into fall, and then to december, and then we're into Christmas,
  • Not Synced
it's Hanukkah, it's all sorts of holidays, all revolving around food.
  • Not Synced
    Ugh!
  • Not Synced
Not only is it food, but it's family.
  • Not Synced
    Urgh!
  • Not Synced
    Even more stressful, right?
  • Not Synced
So, no, it's not too early to start freaking out.
  • Not Synced
    I understand.
  • Not Synced
This is probably the two worst combinations that we can have
  • Not Synced
    right?
  • Not Synced
Also, everybody's kind of on edge in general.
  • Not Synced
Holidays make people a little nervous.
  • Not Synced
Family can make everybody a little nervous.
  • Not Synced
Not to mention Christmas and the shopping and the gifts and, you know.
  • Not Synced
    So it's stressful.
  • Not Synced
    [sighs]
  • Not Synced
I even get stressed out just talking about it right now.
  • Not Synced
    ?
  • Not Synced
    Right?
  • Not Synced
So. Something that I want to talk to you a little about as far as Thanksgiving,
  • Not Synced
and for those of you who don't have Thanksgiving or you've already had your Thanksgiving,
  • Not Synced
just keep this in mind for this time of year.
  • Not Synced
Because this is something that I need to work on.
  • Not Synced
Something we should all constantly be thinking about and doing.
  • Not Synced
    This is reflecting.
  • Not Synced
    Okay?
  • Not Synced
You know how I tell you guys, you know,
  • Not Synced
    "Oh that is so exciting!"
  • Not Synced
    "Good job!"
  • Not Synced
"I am so proud of you!"
  • Not Synced
    "Yes!"
  • Not Synced
You know when I'm getting comments and getting excited about all the progress you're making?
  • Not Synced
And you think, "Kati, that was just... that was just little."
  • Not Synced
    "I barely did anything. Eurgh."
  • Not Synced
Your ED tries to take it back from you, like,
  • Not Synced
    "That wasn't that good"
  • Not Synced
    "Kati's lying."
  • Not Synced
I'm not lying, your ED's lying.
  • Not Synced
And we need to look back and see how far we've come.
  • Not Synced
    Often we don't look back.
  • Not Synced
    Because we're too focused.
  • Not Synced
It's so hard and we're working all the time, and "I messed up this day"
  • Not Synced
"But I did okay this day"
  • Not Synced
and, you know, we're in it.
  • Not Synced
Sometimes, even those of us who don't have an eating disorder
  • Not Synced
    we just need to [sigh]
  • Not Synced
just need to take a breath.
  • Not Synced
I need to sit back. I need to look, where was I a year ago?
  • Not Synced
You know where I was a year ago?
  • Not Synced
I was just deciding to start doing this.
  • Not Synced
Can you believe it's already been a year?
  • Not Synced
    HOLY MOLEY!
  • Not Synced
I remember, I was having Christmas, and I was in California, and I was so excited.
  • Not Synced
I was like, "Mom, you're never going to believe it"
  • Not Synced
    "I have eleven views."
  • Not Synced
Given, it was probably me, my fianceé, my mom and his parents watching. Right? Those were my eleven views.
  • Not Synced
But I've never been so excited.
  • Not Synced
Now we're like at 83,000 or something.
  • Not Synced
    That's a huge change!
  • Not Synced
    Holy moley!
  • Not Synced
And all of you have things like that going on in your life.
  • Not Synced
And I want you to look back. Where was I a year ago?
  • Not Synced
    How far have I come?
  • Not Synced
    What's changed?
  • Not Synced
    What stressed me out?
  • Not Synced
    What did I struggle with?
  • Not Synced
    What did I do?
  • Not Synced
    Think about it.
  • Not Synced
    Take some time.
  • Not Synced
    Okay?
  • Not Synced
And that's really what I want to talk to you about.
  • Not Synced
Today is just taking time to reflect.
  • Not Synced
You know those recovery journals I told you to make?
  • Not Synced
Might be a good thing to grab it, open it up, you know.
  • Not Synced
It doesn't have to be Thanksgiving, you can just say "giving thanks."
  • Not Synced
We should all be giving thanks every day, right?
  • Not Synced
I have a roof over my head.
  • Not Synced
I have clothes on my back.
  • Not Synced
I have people in my life that I can call, I can count on.
  • Not Synced
There's a lot of things going for us.
  • Not Synced
    Even the small things.
  • Not Synced
So let's say, maybe I have friends who I've isolated, maybe I have friends who aren't very close,
  • Not Synced
but we still have a roof over our head.
  • Not Synced
We still have some way to get help, whether it's contacting the treatment team or anything like that,
  • Not Synced
    you have me.
  • Not Synced
    You have my community.
  • Not Synced
    You have each other, right?
  • Not Synced
Let's give it a thumbs up. I think it's down here somewhere.
  • Not Synced
    Thumbs up! Right?
  • Not Synced
We're here to support one another.
  • Not Synced
    That's a good thing.
  • Not Synced
Sometimes we just need that little boost.
  • Not Synced
    So take some time out.
  • Not Synced
    Grab your journal.
  • Not Synced
    What am I thankful for?
  • Not Synced
    Start small.
  • Not Synced
I'm thankful that I had a shower today.
  • Not Synced
You know? I live in LA and there's a lot of homeless people.
  • Not Synced
And that's kind of sad, if you can't shower.
  • Not Synced
You know how nice it is to put on a new pair of socks, like a clean fluffy new pair of socks?
  • Not Synced
    Ooo! I love that feeling.
  • Not Synced
Simple things. Start writing little things down.
  • Not Synced
    You know?
  • Not Synced
I can watch TV! Not everybody has electricity or television. Right?
  • Not Synced
I have you guys. I get to communicate with you all day!
  • Not Synced
    What a joy, right?
  • Not Synced
    I'm thankful for you!
  • Not Synced
And so, take the time to let people know.
  • Not Synced
I think it can make us feel really good to give to other people as well.
  • Not Synced
So other people in your life know, "hey I'm thankful for you"
  • Not Synced
"Thanks for being there for me and I know things have been a little rough, but you've really stuck it out, and I love you."
  • Not Synced
    You know, let people know.
  • Not Synced
We used to have this thing we did in my family, in our Thanksgiving, growing up, in the morning of thanksgiving
  • Not Synced
before we went to my grandma's, we'd go around the table and talk about our number one thing we're thankful for this year.
  • Not Synced
    What's happened?
  • Not Synced
    What are we thankful for?
  • Not Synced
    Right?
  • Not Synced
I used to think about it days in advance, cause I'm like, "I only get one thing!"
  • Not Synced
    You know? We're so fortunate.
  • Not Synced
So take time. Grab that journal.
  • Not Synced
Tell people around you that you love them, that you're thankful for them,
  • Not Synced
because that's really what this holiday season is about.
  • Not Synced
We're going to try and stay focussed on that.
  • Not Synced
In Healthy mind, Healthy Body, we're focussing on what we're thankful for.
  • Not Synced
We're not focussing on the food, and all that shenanigans,
  • Not Synced
we'll deal with that later, in another video,
  • Not Synced
    but right now, today,
  • Not Synced
    grab that journal!
  • Not Synced
    Write it down!
  • Not Synced
    You know, "thankful".
  • Not Synced
    What am I thankful for?
  • Not Synced
    Start with something small.
  • Not Synced
And you can say, I'm thankful for Kati, Kati's thankful for me,
  • Not Synced
I'm thankful that I have people in this community to talk to,
  • Not Synced
There's quite a few right there.
  • Not Synced
    So let's get started.
