MARINERS: (SINGING)
# Can you wait for me
I've got something for you
I don't wanna dream about you
I want it to be for real
I don't wanna dream about you
I want it to be for real
I'm so high but I need to move
If you keep it moving take me on
Empty soul,
Wait for me I'm gonna take you on
Wait for me
Wait for me...
Wait for me
Wait for me, wait for me
(ECHOES) Wait for me
wait for me...
When you walked into the room
All I could was look at you
Thoughts running through my brain
Hearts beating like heavy rain
I've been waiting for you
Why won't you come closer?
Can you wait for me
I got something for you
I don't wanna dream about you
I want it to be for real, c'mon,
I don't wanna dream about you
I want it to be for real,
I'm so high but I need to know
If you keep it moving take me on
And just so
Wait for me I'm gonna take you on
I need to know
If you keep it moving take me on
And just so
Wait for me I'm gonna take you on.
Wait for me
Wait for me
Wait for me
Wait for me, wait for me. c',mon!
Wait for me
Wait for me
Wait for me
Wait for me, wait for me. #
SPEAKER: Give it up for the Mariners
for that incredible performance,
that was iconic
So we'd like to say a massive thank you
to all the performers and the supporters
who have taken the time to send messages
of support or put together
something special just for
LGBTIQA+ Youth
For that we are absolutely
eternally grateful.
We have got some massive
performers and still
some messages of support yet to come.
So the next act that we're going to
hear from is none other than Montaigne.
So not only did Montaigne
fund raise from Minus 18
and LGBTQI+ Youth
during her 2018 national tour.
She was also part of the #OutNow 2020
from Bonds and Minus 18 for Mardi Gras.
She was Australia's pick
for Eurovision 2020.
Like I'm not even kidding.
Huge huge huge deal.
And she is gonna be performing songs
right from the bedroom directly to you.
So let's give it up to one of
my queer heroes or queeroes, Montaigne.
MONTAIGNE: Hi everyone,
it's Montaigne here.
I'm in my room.
I am really glad to be here
digitally and to perform for you.
I'm going to perform a
couple of songs for you today.
One is Glorious Heights
and one is Ready
I'm wearing my purple.
Wearing purple today to show visibility
for us LGBTQ+ folks
Yeah. I'm really grateful that I was able
do this and I hope you enjoy.
I have to sing quietly because
I live in a shared house
with other people and they're
working/sleeping.
So it will be a very low key
version of this song
but also be good
so get yourselves up right.
(STRINGS GUITAR)
# Poetry's my mission,
It has become so small
I stay in my bed,
My body shakes with tremors
The only thing that I know
Is I'm trying to reach glorious heights
From tiny stones I always get tricked
And on my mind's unravelling,
Over the gravel and there's
a hurry in my soul
Something's gotta give
I'm not even there at all
I have a low pain threshold maybe that's
why things that shouldn't hurt me
Hurt me so.
I don't mind, I don't mind
Seeing you leave me behind
I don't mind, I don't mind
I will continue to tidy behind
(STRUMS GUITAR)
The first I reach is my body high
(STRUMS GUITAR)
And I've spent so many nights
waiting to be a alright
Waiting to be alright
Waiting to be alright
Waiting to be alright
Don't try and awaken and it feels wrong
Please excuse me I'm not physical,
My heart's just at an awkwardly low
I have a need to rescue itself
Because I'm much too afraid
To ask somebody else
On the first hint of August
I will turn into dust
Then I'll go sulk at the pitbull
That I thought I could trust
Is that really the way it is
These lives are desperately weak
I'm climbing the charts
But my heart is bleeding
'cause I don't mind
I don't mind
Seeing you leave me behind,
I don't mind, I don't mind
I will continue to try to be kind
(STRUMS GUITAR)
And first day with just my body high
And I've spent glorious nights
Waiting to be alright
Waiting to be alright
Waiting to be alright
Waiting to be alright
I don't mind
I don't mind
To see you leave me behind
I'm trying to climb to glorious heights
To the precipice of my mind
And I will wait along the dark trenches
My mind hides and lies
Because now I'm lying about my heart
To let you think I'm fine
And the first stage is my body high
(STRUMS GUITAR)
And I've spent glorious nights
Waiting to be alright
Waiting to be alright
Waiting to be alright
Waiting to be alright
Waiting to be alright
Waiting to be alright
Waiting to be alright #
(SONG FADES)
That was song number one
I'm just going to take a drink
of water because I need it.
Plain and simple.
Okey doke.
(STRUMS GUITAR)
That's alright.
# I, I get off the shadows
Thinking about all the places
I should have been #
(CLEARS THROAT)
Alright. This next song is called Ready.
# I... I guess I'm frustrated
Thinking about all the places
I should have been by now
And I'm endlessly waiting
Feel like a barrel of dynamite
Waiting for a flame to come 'round
I need a little spark
A light in bitter dark
I think I'm ready to go
I think I'm ready
And I'm, I'm out in the wind
So catch my wings
I think I'm ready to go
I think I'm ready
I think I'm ready to go
I think I'm ready
And I'm at the edge of the cliff
So let's begin
I think I'm ready to go
I think I'm ready
I'm ready to begin again.
(STRUMS GUITAR)
I'm so sick of slipping into lakes
Brush the dust off of my shoulder
I know that I can do better
Take me to the final stage
Give me, give me equal wage
I am no longer afraid
I need a little spark
A light in bitter dark
I think I'm ready and ready to go
I think I'm ready
I think I'm ready and ready to go
I think I'm ready
And I'm, I'm out in the wind
So catch my wings
I think I'm ready and ready to go
I think I'm ready
I think I'm ready and ready to go
I think I'm ready
And I'm at the edge of the cliff
So let's begin
I think I'm ready and ready to go
I think I'm ready
I'm ready to begin again
(HUMS NOTE)
And I'm, I'm out in the wind
So catch my wings
I think I'm ready and ready to go
I think I'm ready
And I'm at the edge of the cliff
So let's begin
I think I'm ready and ready to go
I think I'm ready
I'm ready to begin again #
(HUMS NOTE)
Awesome.
Thank you everybody.
I hope you enjoyed.
Also...
Also please,
check out my rainbow earrings.
These are like my favorite
new thing that I hope you enjoy
I got them for pretty cheap at Larissa's
so if you want a pair and get some.
if you feel comfortable obviously
leaving the house and going to the shop
Alright. Love you.
Bye bye.
SPEAKER: For us 2020 is a very different
year for wearing purple.
For me I see a positive
in the fact that we're going to be
having a virtual Wear Purple Day
that's going to reach into regional
rural, even international audiences
and impacts so many more
young people than ever before.
Last year wear purple impacted
over 600,000 young people
through schools engagement.
We had 750 schools holding their
own Wear Purple Day events.
SPEAKER: I think the really unique thing
about Wear Purple
and why I think it has been so successful
is that it is led by young people
and it's so nice to watch our young volunteers
who drive the organisation
and have so many amazing visions
for where it can go
to use their skills
and to push it further.
It means that we have a platform
to allow LGBTIQ young people
to showcase how great they are.
SPEAKER: And I think we would really
like to just continue to flourish
and make that happen
in every single state.
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
SPEAKER: Hello I'm Bec Sandridge.
I'm a mostly queer or gay singer
songwriter from Wollongong Australia.
Some of the things that
I wish I knew when I were younger
is one it will be okay, two,
you will find people that love
and accept you for who you are
and three,
the thing that makes you a bit
different or a bit weird
is the thing that is great about you
so protect it cherish it and boogie hard.
SPEAKER: Hello everyone
it is Alan Tsibulya here
and I'm so excited to be part of the Wear
it Purple day bride party extravaganza.
Now, story time.
So I was fermenting some
beetroot juice the other week.
It's great for the gut
and when I opened it
after about five days I was like
Oh.
This seems to be some kind of
like he's yeasty
bacterial probiotic overgrowth that's
like floated to the top.
But then I was like wow like
if only all of humanity learned
from these yeasty colonies
and also rose to the top arm in arm
floating no matter what sub-bacterial
species they be
whether it's the lactobacillus,
acidophilis are bifida bacterium lactace,
So a toast.
To all of us.
And our subspecies out there.
May we stay undivided.
But minus like any,
you know, bacterial overgrowths.
OK and cheers.
SPEAKER: Hello it's Greg Gould here out
and proud Australian singer/songwriter
and I just want to say that Wear
Purple Day is an important cause
each and every year but even more
important this year because
we can't all be together
we can't all support each other
the way that we should.
It's really important that
we reach out to each other
send each other a message
stay connected.
So check in on your friends make
sure that they are okay.
The LGBTQ+ community can
find support and love.
I have so much love for you all
and I want to send that message.
(BLOWS KISS)
