Walk with Mooji Baba [Mooji] You gave me a very good question this morning, [Mooji] 'What does it mean to be egoless?' It means life, true life. What Does It Mean to Be Egoless? 03-01-2018 [Mooji] You are not dominated by feelings, your life is not in service to your person. Meaning that, for most human beings, our life is primarily in service to our person, like how we are doing, 'I am not well', 'I need this', 'I don't have any money'. It is all about us, us, us. And that is such a ... Our lives should be for service and for ... It is like, one life in service, not to itself really, but to life, can make hundreds of people live the joy, for many of them, if you do it in proper service. A life in service to your self is selfish and we would call it so wasteful. So much power is in you and that power is not for your person. So to be egoless ... when the person wants to be egoless, it is very difficult if the person remains. It's trying to be good, and it is OK, it is also a very wide path. Most people are told, when they read scripture, 'Love one another', 'Do good to those who do bad things to you', like this. And people try to be as loving and kind as they can be, and it is good. It produces really good results, but sometimes something is artificial, if you are doing it because you are told you should be good. We are looking for merits, 'If I do what is good, I get something', so it is still for ourself, in a sense. But when we wake up to the Truth that you are the Self, the Self cares for everything, for everyone, it is different somehow. Life is much lighter, your sense of personal problems just vanishes, like there are no personal problems. There is no person to have problems. Things come up in life, maybe someone can say, 'I don't like you!' And it is going to be felt, and if they had a lot of poison inside that utterance, you may feel that sadness, but it will never overwhelm you. You are even able to do the right thing, which is to say, 'God bless you'. Sometimes you don't say it in front of them, because it might even upset them, but in your heart you accept it. And you take the poison out of your self. The ego is the poison inside the life of a human being, It just makes things bad, it's always selfish, it's always drawing energy to itself all the time, it always needs to be right, all of these things; it's very poisonous. But sometimes not knowing another way it feels like, 'That is just how I am'. As you begin to wake up to the deeper space of Truth behind the person, this is where self-inquiry or The Invitation brings you out of that, lifts you out of that space and into the space behind, where there is a field of pure intelligence, more light, more space. You already start to feel happy and light and in your happiness and your light, you naturally want to do what feels good. It is like what feels good comes naturally inside your heart and selfishness feels ... it's like a poison that leaves you, so you are not thinking so much in terms of that. When you find something that makes you happy, you want to share it to make as many people as possible happy. You go through a door into a space, you want to let as many people as possible come through. So egoless-ness is like this. And the more ego is dropping away, this heavy cloak of ego, of 'I, me, me, me, I, me my, mine', there is just much greater space. That is why I say, you come into the God-field. The God-field has no jealousy, all this kind of stuff goes: selfishness, heavy cravings ... You are in a field and it naturally cares and everything just gets picked up in it. It takes care of every aspect of your life and the lives of those you love. But your love doesn't stop, it keeps expanding more and more. So, that is what it is to be without ego. It is the most powerful thing in the whole world. Ego is the darkest force in the world. Freedom from ego is the most light and beautiful force in the world. And that is, for me, the challenge of living as a human being, to transcend the egoic identity. But it seems very rare in our world, because so much is put on the person, it is like our first love and we love that first. But you are meant to love the Self, but not the person, love the Self first, but we tend to love it last. It is like that. We first grow up with a strong identity and all 'me, me, me', but we're never happy like that. We need so many things: we need money, we need friendship, we need partners, we need nice things in order to be happy. But someone who is free of ego can just be happy anyway. Wherever you put them, they are happy. They are not competitive, they are very broad in their dealings, they always think of the feelings of others. It's very beautiful and my wish and prayer is that it becomes contagious again just to be happy, that beings just enjoy ... When we have group actions, some people learn to see that they can work together and produce something beautiful, and they love it. In Monte Sahaja now, the climate and the vibrations have become so much higher, so that the feeling of love is easy. People are not pretending to love, they are genuinely feeling the vibration. Where does this vibration come from? It's not that we came here and it was a special land and the trees were giving a vibration. No! We are bringing the vibration, the living Self, by our actions, by our thoughts, by the meditation, by the understanding, by the veneration and the attraction to God, or to pure consciousness. All of this is lifting the vibration, so it becomes powerful. Even people who don't know about these things, when they come, they feel something, 'I feel good here. I like being here.' What are they responding to? They are responding to the vibration of the place. They probably don't know the philosophy, it's not important. It is the activity of the philosophy, it is the power of the guidance when it is accepted. There is no power in the guidance if it is not accepted. When it is accepted, then it wakes up and it starts to move and then everything ... The trees start to pick it up, the earth picks it up, everything picks it up. That is why in some places, you can feel the vibration of the place even though that person is not there anymore. I have been to places like that, in India. Even in Jamaica, in Bob Marley's house I felt this vibration, actually. I went to his room, where his slippers are by his bed, I wasn't expecting anything, but the feeling of love was so powerful. It was so wonderful! In India, Gandhi's place and different places I have been to, it feels 'Whoa', not so many, but quite a few. You feel this vibration and it lives in the walls, even the bricks hold the vibration. You go inside and you feel, 'There was happiness in this house!' And it lives, even though the people left their bodies, the happiness is inside the house. It is amazing! Sometimes darkness can live in a house also. These are the strong energies of attraction, desire, fear, love, these are powerful forces in the human kingdom and they affect even the earth, it leaves that vibration there. Sometimes people go to the forest, they say they love being in nature. It's because it is not polluted by human darkness. So they feel, 'It is empty of that'. It has moved more into tree consciousness and land, earth consciousness, more into that. When you come to a place where the consciousness has manifested the human form, it is much more rich, it's more diverse in its expression. If it is pervaded by and imbued with consciousness, it is so powerful! This is why I say, it was 2,100 years ago when Jesus was here physically, on the Earth, and just through one human being who was the embodiment of the God consciousness, even after leaving his body, 2,100 years later, people are still becoming followers of Christ, or followers of the Buddha, or followers of Krishna, who was here 5,000 years ago, of Rama, who was here many, many thousands of years ago. Why? Because the vibration is there when they hold that. So, it is a very powerful thing! I used to say that one human being forgot about themself and since then the whole world cannot forget them. That is a very powerful thing! Forgetting themself means to override the ego, to just not listen to him. They transcended that. And their influence, their presence and their words impacted on the lives of millions of beings. So there are examples. And each of these human beings had exactly the same kind of blood type as us, looked at the same moon, the same stars and the same sun, just like us. They still had appetites, they got tired, they sometimes didn't sleep, they had friendships, they had people who hated them. Even still, they were glowing in the spirit of Truth, the spirit of God. So that, for me, is the fulfilment of a human life, to wake up into the Truth of what you really are, and that, that is what God is, that you are inside the God kingdom inside your heart. That is what is. A human being that merely follows scriptures on the surface, it is not enough. Their life will change, it will impact on the lives of other people, but in a soft way. But the one who abandons their ego and plunges fully into the God ocean, this one rises up and becomes a guide in the world, even if they don't speak. Some beings don't speak, but their presence is so powerful, because it is so much inherent in their being, this presence of God, that people can just be in their presence and they are transformed. So for me, that is what it means to be without ego, it is the most powerful thing in the world! If I were to meet two people, one who has been to Venus and lived there for six months, one who lived in a cardboard box for six months in meditation and God and who has awakened, I would go there any time and be with this one. I don't need to speak to an astronaut about life, because they could be equally full of ego. But the one who has transcended ego inside themself, that would be my happy date. I would rather go and sit there, just to be with this, to be in that field of beings, even beings who love God, or who are searching for Truth, that is holy company. Just to be in the company of seekers of Truth is called auspicious, as well. So I feel that we are in the right place, that more and more beings are finding true happiness, not a trip, not, 'We are going to conquer the world!' No. Just finding, one by one is enough, that light moving in the world is something. Because I don't think the world needs more books about spirituality. They need human beings who embody the Truth rather than books that write about the Truth! They want to see the living book, not just a book of paper. They want to see a book of a human being like them whose life challenges or confronts or reveals something inside themself. By meeting someone of that calibre, their being cannot deny that it has met God. Many times we have heard of stories where people who have professed themselves to be atheists, have met a being who has that impact on them, that they know, 'Whoa, I don't know what this is, but it is causing all these changes inside my heart'. Because they can't be a true atheist, it is just a strangeness. It just means the depth of ignorance, that you don't acknowledge that there is a Supreme power that controls and determines the order of the universe and cares for things. It is not human beings who are doing it, allowing these trees to grow and sending rain and changing the weather and taking care of all the different planets, not only in one solar system, but in all the solar systems! Even talking about it makes you feel weak. You can't grasp the magnificence and the might of that Supreme Being. The Being is not separate as an entity doing the things, it is inside the things themselves. It is like a ... God cannot be just a form, or God is embodied in all forms and beyond them. The forms are constantly changing, because He gives them the portion of time and growth and anything that is growing must be transforming and changing. But the God-Self is unchanging and yet manifesting change and taking care of all the different permutations of its expression. Sometimes I just want to try and portray it as a kind of field of energy, but not just energy, it is an intelligence and a spirit ... This is the visible expression of it and appearing out of it, it gives many clues, that's if you look. We look and see the hair on someone's head, which keeps coming out, but from what? If you look inside the head, there's no hair inside, coming out. Nothing is there, it's just growing. It shows you, 'Out of emptiness I create all these things, sustain them and bring them back to emptiness'. It is too magnificent to talk about! Some beings get overwhelmed at just the majesty of that power. So that power is the source of your own sense of Self. To know this, even if you don't understand it, should set your life on fire already, you should have to go and sit down. There is no end to gratitude for knowing that your life is sourced in God. For someone who doesn't really comprehend that ... Also that is designated by the power, that there will be beings who don't feel that for a while, and eventually, they must wake up to that in themselves. An auspicious life, for me, is a life which moves away from the ego which creates blindness inside the being and makes us be concerned just about earthly things, as opposed to one who is aware and living in that awareness, and then living as that awareness. If you come to live as awareness, you are already in the kingdom, you are already in that space. It is even, I would say, greater than heaven, if I can say something like that. When that feeling came, I just thought, Is that blasphemous to say? I felt, if heaven is made of images and objects, then they are also in a kind of time. Maybe, one of God's days could be a thousand human years. Who knows? But whatever it is, there has to be change. If there are different levels of beings, then of course, the process of evolving and growing is still there. But in the pure awareness, it is not concerned about growth. It is so perfect, but it is so unappealing to the mind, because the mind is always concerned about things and objects and having and losing and getting and changing and growing and becoming and losing, it is all of that. Whereas in awareness, it is transcendental to such concepts. This is what I am trying to say, when I say to everyone, Leave this now. Leave this now. Leave even the concern for your identity. Leave all of this. Who am I speaking to? To the intelligence that doesn't hear this enough. When it hears this command that comes from the heart, it is able to drop everything and then be in the oneness, in the experience of its own oneness. Then you see people in the hall in satsang, in the meditations like this, and with guidance like this, then the disturbance is not there, it is like you are in a transcendental plane. Selfishness and all this kind of stuff just thins away and it is as though you are floating in a lighter dimension of being. So it is very tangible, actually, that we feel it and we have the capacity to experience it. In the beginning, for many people, their mind comes. Sometimes people come here, they are not used to this type of environment and you see how much their mind is troubling them. It appears as though the place and the people are troubling them, but their own mind is troubling them. It feels uncomfortable, because it feels challenged, 'What are these people so happy about? I don't even trust them. They are pretending.' It goes into overdrive, cynicism, judgements, discomfort, all these things come up. But they are just the birth pains to reach a higher state, if they persist, and often they don't, they go away. But something is inside and that seed begins to grow inside them, because God brought them here. Even if they feel, 'I didn't want to come here, my wife ...', it's still the force that caused them to come here, to experience the disturbance that's in them, but they don't recognise that it's coming from them. They think it's coming from outside. But it's coming from a reaction to the energy they are experiencing that they're not yet compatible with, because they are so much in the domain of egoic identity. So that is shaking. So, it is a very good question you gave me this morning, on what it means to be egoless. It means life, true life. When we think of Jesus, or Prophet Muhummad, or Krishna, or the Buddha, it immediately ... Even people who don't know about these things, they know it represents a higher level of consciousness, a level where love and peace are the climate. When we say 'I', the implication, the real meaning of 'I' is consciousness. But rarely in the world, when we say 'I', does it mean consciousness. It means individuality, it means person, it means, 'I am a man', 'I am a woman', it is such a contraction, such a limitation. But 'I', even the one who is awake will say 'I', knowing that it is referring to a sense of individuality. But underneath that 'I', they are in that space of a deeper knowing, a spiritual knowing that it is consciousness speaking, and not the person. It is a different vibration altogether. When you are with someone, and when they speak you experience spaciousness, that 'I' is the 'I' that comes from consciousness, that is consciousness. When you are speaking with someone and you have to be careful what you say, that 'I' is loaded with the personhood. And you can see the person ... The Earth full of personhood is a very suffocating place. Stifling! Even if there were only three million people on the Earth, well probably that's a small number, but when you meet them, you would feel a bit suffocated. But one human being who is awake to the Self, in a crowd of thousands, shines and illumines, raises the level of consciousness in people who recognise it. Because something in us can recognise that you are standing in a higher Presence, that's what happens there. Even without being told people start to behave differently to someone who is awake. They can't help it. Without knowing consciously, 'Oh, that person is some ...', they just behave differently. They may start by treating it like, 'This is a regular thing', but gradually, the presence begins to sort of percolate and to move more deeply inside them, and it changes them. Their climate starts to change, they start to feel more kind, more open, they want to do things for you, that is without knowing anything about spirituality. It is commanded in the world, one of the Hadiths of the Prophet says that when God created the world, it says that God commanded the whole world, 'Serve those who serve me'. Meaning, those who are searching for Truth, serve them. 'And make weary and tired those who serve you.' Do you understand? It is a powerful thing! 'Serve those who serve me.' Meaning, serve those, take care of them, who honour God and Truth. 'Make tired those who serve you', who serve the world, make them tired. Is that a curse? No, it is a blessing also! Because when you get tired of your own rubbish, then maybe there is space finally to say, 'I have to try something different'. It says, 'Make weary those who serve you', because their service is in vain, it's just serving matter and not spirit. So it is beautiful. It is written inside the heart, in the DNA of every living being, not just human beings, that in the presence of one who venerates the Truth, something in them will honour them. It will respond to them, at first it may even want to get rid of them, but it can't deny that their presence has an impact upon the existence. That is the power of the Holy Spirit and the spirit of Truth in each one. I say, this place has to shine in that. It has to, as long as I am here. It has to be that our focus is on cutting the ego. And not just cutting, cutting the ego, but living in the Truth. Because if your life is only trying to cut, cut, cut ego, maybe you don't even taste the full joy, you are too busy trying to cut the ego. But I say, I am showing you the Truth also, in the meantime. So as you are trying to cut the ego, you find the Truth, you put down your cutter and just rejoice in the Truth and let the Truth cut the ego. Isn't it beautiful? Let the Truth cut the ego. Why do your hands have to cut the ego? [Friend] That's what The Invitation does. [Mooji] That's what The Invitation does! The Invitation takes all the dirty work, the grime and stuff out of it and brings you into the lap of God. [laughter] For this my heart is so happy, because sometimes when you see the beings ... If somebody comes here, 'I'm so thirsty. Can I have a glass of water?' You give them a glass of water. If somebody falls down, you say 'Come, let's get up'. Even though your back is hurting, you help them up, 'How are you feeling? Better? Sit down.' You help them. No? Somebody is hungry, 'Brother, please ...'. You give them something to eat. Whatever you can do, you help. If they are sick, what are you going to do? Something must be in you to help them. Whether it is prayer, or you start to learn to bless people, even if it doesn't work, you still keep doing it. 'My intention is to bless their life, to give them ... not that their life becomes like mine.' Just bless their life with whatever it needs to remove the obstacles, to remove whatever it is that is contaminating, or disfiguring the spontaneity of their life, to banish that by the power of God. You bless them! And with this also, people are searching for the Truth, they can't find it, 'It's so difficult'. I say, You read The Invitation. Listen to this. Just listen to it. Just listen to it. And that is the big help they can get. They say, 'Oh my God, I was getting ready to do all the gymnastics to try and get over these things, and you made it so easy'. Some things become so easy. 'I didn't have to go through my mind, I didn't have to go down into this dark place of myself. I came to the light place of myself.' Isn't that a wonderful thing? Why does everybody have to suffer, blood, sweat and tears? And they can't do it, because human beings are getting weaker. They want everything to be done by machines. Even the work on ourselves ... Yes, if it is to build your ego, you will do it! You will lift heavy weights to build up the ego. But to change, to transform your heart from a suffering place into the abode of peace, 'I can't get into that!' Because they feel it doesn't show. So perhaps this is why grace brought The Invitation now, to say, 'But you have to also come in. You think you are happy, but that is not the real happiness.' And to try to get them. I feel this must be why ... For me, The Invitation is the easiest thing, like someone holding your hand, walking you through the door, 'Lets go'. 'I want to meet Jesus.' Come with me, I will show you right here. Just a minute. Let's walk through to the other side. 'I was going to go to Jerusalem and to Calvary.' No, no. He is right here. Come. I walk you through the door. Isn't it so? [laughter] [Friends] Thank you, Mooji. [music] Copyright © 2018 Mooji Media Ltd. All Rights Reserved.
