Berenice Cocciolillo was born in Italy, but grew up in New York City. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in romance languages and a Master’s in Italian literature from New York University. In addition to teaching Italian language courses, Berenice is Coordinator of Web Communications at John Cabot University.

Before joining JCU in 1992, Berenice taught Italian at various American universities including NYU, Pace University, and Hunter College of the City of New York. She also worked as an interpreter at the United States Department of State and as a translator at the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations.

Since moving back to Italy in 1990, Berenice worked for several years as a free-lance journalist, writing about many aspects of Italian culture and politics. She continues to work as a translator, specializing in poetry and literary criticism. She is one of the founders and organizers of InVerse, JCU's festival of Italian poetry in translation. Her most challenging and rewarding job, however, is being the mother of two daughters. Her main hobby is singing and she is a member of the Soul Singers, a gospel music choir that performs benefit concerts in many Roman churches and theaters.
