Hello and welcome to the food trailer
site selection project.
-
"Austin has put food trailers on the map.
-
From the Travel Channel to Southern
Living to Forbes,
-
everyone is talking about the Austin food
trailer scene.
-
Foodies swear by their long time
favorites like Luke's Inside Out,
-
the Peach Tortilla, and Hey Cupcake.
-
Other food trailers like the Odd Duck,
Gordo's, East Side King, and Valentina's
-
have successfully expanded to brick and
mortar locations.
-
These aren't just trucks, they're not just
taco trucks or food trailers,
-
they're diverse and well-regarded food
establishments.
-
And they're receiving rave reviews all
over the country.
-
One of my favorite food trailers is
Valentina's.
-
Valentina's serves up Tex-Mex barbecue
with a wide range of options on their menu
-
including some delicious sides like street
corn, queso, beans with the perfect amount
-
of spice, and on top of all that, their
tortillas are made fresh in house.
-
They are delicious.
-
Their pulled chicken taco melts in your
mouth."
-
So for this project, you are going to come
up with your own signature food dish for
-
a new food trailer.
-
You will use GIS to find the perfect
Austin location in support of
-
your loan application.
-
Your completed project should be submitted
as an ArcGIS Pro package, or PPKX.
-
This finalized project will include a
location map layout, a site map layout,
-
a geodatabase with metadata, and will be
uploaded to your course website.
-
In order to complete this project, you're
going to need interest access, your ArcGIS
-
online account in a web browser, and the
ArcGIS Pro software.
-
Your instructor is going to provide you
with the source data required to complete
-
this project, along with the hyperlinks
to the source websites.
-
So you're going to determine your
signature dish.
-
And you're going to look at opening your
own food truck in Austin.
-
Before the bank will give you a small
business loan for your trailer,
-
they've requested that you provide
documentation showing that the
-
site that you've secured satisfies the
following criteria:
-
The site must be located on a properly
zoned parcel within the city of Austin;
-
the site must not be located within one
mile of a competing food trailer of a
-
similar food type;
-
and there must be potential customers,
both residents and workers, within walking
-
distance. So about 1,500 feet from your
selected site.
-
So let's get started on the summary
tasks.
